For those of you who use hand-loaded ammo for self-defense:http://www.grantcunningham.com/blog_files/2167be380c971d751694131258750ec5-1028.html
6/6/2012 10:45:43 AM
that's no reason not to carry handloads
6/6/2012 4:32:57 PM
I handloadRifle and pistolused to load shotgun, but prices make it barely worth the timeI record my loadsWhat I load is not a mystery, it is almsot always a load either directly from a loading manual, or a worked up load that is derived from such a load. These loads are ones I test, and know cycle the gun well and perform as I want them to. they are also loads that can be reproduced by almsot anyone, and I document what I loadNobody wants mystery handloadsIf I find loose stuff that looks like hand loads, and it does not instantly match up to a particular type of load that I remember loading, I tear it down and throw away the powder. I only have 1 load I load with 165 gr BTSP in the .30-'06. My dad only has 1 load he loads with a Barrys Bullets plated double struck 40 SW. i admit, I carry a 9mm and a 40, and both have self defense type premium ammo that is factory loaded. However, my sister caries very nasty hand loads in her 380, and the 38 super I grew up shooting gets nothing but hand loads, same with the 357 mag.

today we test fired an AK with a 9" stainless barrel. the fireball is bigger than the gun it gives me a sincere appreciation for the big ass noveske flash hider he put on after a few shotsthe guy told me he'd build me one for $600 not including the ATF stamp. thinking hard about taking him up on that...
6/6/2012 9:43:51 PM
what's the point?
6/6/2012 9:52:59 PM
its just an alternative to a full size. this thing is about 24" long and weighs 6-7lbshe made it mostly for the cool factor. i wanted one after shooting it but it probably wouldn't be something i'd use often

I just applied for my concealed carry permit. I'm relatively new with guns, although I'm somewhat familiar. I was wondering what you guys recommend as a good concealed carry pistol. My buddy recommended the Ruger LCP but I didn't like shooting it. Any help is appreciated.
6/8/2012 2:51:14 AM
The LCP jumps quite a bit, has a long trigger pull.I love the LCP for one thing, the size. The size is the winner on so many levels. Life or death, its going to work just fine IMO.
6/8/2012 3:00:22 AM
^ I'm confused is that supposed to be a criticism? On my conceal gun i think i'd want a long trigger pull. It's just one more safety sorta. and any gun that's that tiny is gonna jump with anything but a .22lr.

I have a Kahr PM9 that I carry and I really like it. Great for pocket carry if you want to (I am not a fan) and incredibly easy to carry IWB. Great shooting gun too. I got a screaming deal on mine but if you don't want to spend as much for one you can get the CW9 which is basically the same thing without all the bells and whistles (same functionality though).
6/8/2012 8:45:33 AM
I've read/watched good reviews on the Bersa guns
6/8/2012 8:58:54 AM
bersas are dangerous guns. i wouldn't even shoot one at the range, much less bet my life on one in a defense situation. a guy in my dad's CHP class was shooting a bersa thunder 380 and a ~1/2" piece of the muzzle end of the slide just broke off.
6/8/2012 11:44:35 AM
10-4 so just get a walther version ? or is the design just flawed?
6/8/2012 11:49:53 AM
SIG P232 > Walther > Bersa Thunder
6/8/2012 12:03:57 PM
thanks... that was the direction i'm headed for the wife so i really appreciate it.sig it is.

Someone should just do a "first CC gun" FAQ so we can avoid this every few pages I would but I CC full size pistols which is not for everyone

Hey look, another compact question Been looking at the Beretta Nano. Reviews seem to hit on its FTE issues, but you can send it in, etc. I'm leaning hard on it regardless. However, what I'm running into now is that I see it can be somewhat uncommon and prices reporte d online are all over the place from $350 at gun shows to the MSRP of $450 or so. With my 92fs I just asked my local shop to order one and got an okay price. I'm otw to check the shop, and Charlotte isn't too far away for additional options (or hell Raleigh), but what do you people do to purchase uncommon guns?
6/8/2012 4:36:10 PM
i use a small local guy. he will order anything his supplier has in stock for his price +10%. there are a lot of small gun shops that operate this way.why the beretta?[Edited on June 8, 2012 at 6:10 PM. Reason : dsf]

lol Remington
6/9/2012 5:21:26 PM
The Beretta Nano is single stack 9mm (which I've been looking for) and reviews say that it fires very smoothly; it draws comparisons to how a Glock fires and is often called the mini gun that Glock hasn't made yet. The gun itself has no protrusions to get caught on. People say it is favorable over the Ruger LC9 (which I've also been looking at) in terms of trigger pull. Its supposedly comparable to the Kahr P9, a little smaller and heavier but more solid. You can also change the grips, but, whatevs.Reviews say that it has problems with failure to eject, but only comes up when using cheap ammo (115gr). I've seen that Beretta has identified and corrected the problem and you can send in your gun to have the ejector or extractor replaced.
6/9/2012 6:11:44 PM
I think S&W recently came out with a single stack 9 that you may want to look at as well.
6/9/2012 6:37:56 PM
I would have a hard time getting any gun that a decent number of reviews saying there are problems with it feeding/ejecting properly, especially if I wanted to CC it. Not sure why you would be hung up on that gun when there are plenty of others out there that have pretty solid reputations.

^^^Cool, I'll look into it.^^Other than that (which is a still a big issue) everyone that handles it seems to love it, plus it is an issue that is fixable. I am still looking around and its something that has piqued my interest. I have yet to hold it, so hopefully a shop around here will have some stuff in stock to test out. I was at Eagle 1 a few weekends ago and held a bunch of their CC pistols but sadly all of the names flew in one ear and out the other since I was just killing time before my range slot opened.

they are an incredible pain to shoot- every time I've fired one of those micro guys, it feels like they are about to fly out of my hand. I mean, I can control it, and put lead on paper, but it is not something I enjoy shooting and fully understand it's purpose. My smallest pistol that I CC and feel good shooting (still a bit rough to hold onto with ape hands, but much better than these^), is my S&W 642
6/11/2012 8:24:37 AM
I have no problems shooting my LCP.
