probably not the best discussion for this thread-
5/31/2012 10:28:56 PM
it's been argued thousands of times. i don't even know how you got on the topic of M16 vs. M14. sumfool was discussing AR-10 vs. M14 (M1A).
5/31/2012 10:33:09 PM
5/31/2012 10:39:47 PM
lol true... i'm not considering anything smaller then .308
5/31/2012 10:40:19 PM
get a FAL then and collectively give everyone the finger.
5/31/2012 10:47:41 PM
i hate all the tactical shit, but anyone who won't admit that the AR platform can make for some excellent weapons is in denial or downright stupid.
5/31/2012 10:49:19 PM
did you not read the fn fnar? basically a browning BAR with a high cap magazine in .308
5/31/2012 10:49:36 PM
The only solution is to have one of both!
5/31/2012 10:50:43 PM
never fooled with a fnar, but my wife has a BAR in .30-06 and if it was mine it would've been sold a long time ago
5/31/2012 10:51:15 PM
I REALLY would LOVE to have a FAL, but I have no purpose for one...
5/31/2012 10:52:57 PM
you dont want to take apart a new BAR.
5/31/2012 11:04:46 PM
K so that's off the list
5/31/2012 11:13:39 PM
Pre-91?
5/31/2012 11:22:50 PM
5/31/2012 11:30:33 PM
I think I may be going with the ptr 91Mainly for mag options they have every thing up to a 50 rnd drum availible.
6/1/2012 12:14:56 AM
you've been going around in circles for a monthyou ain't gonna buy shit
6/1/2012 12:25:14 AM
Lol yes I have, hey I settled on a caliber simple .308
6/1/2012 12:34:54 AM
I SUGGESTED THE PTR QUITE A WHILE AGO PERSON,
6/1/2012 7:15:35 AM
roller delayed recoil operation > or < then gas operated?
6/1/2012 8:18:17 AM
The PTR is a roller lock
6/1/2012 8:25:20 AM
Check out DSA FALs, they make some sweet setups. Personal preference, I've fired the G3, FAL and M14 (all on full-auto too) and I prefer the m14 over the other two. I prefer the M110 (AR10, essentially) over the M14 for specific tasks though. I hate that I missed the debate.
6/1/2012 8:28:07 AM
the bad part about ptrs from what i read is they mangle brass.
6/1/2012 8:34:54 AM
Same with all HK rolling blocks

I decided I wanted something on the opposite end of the spectrum from my 11.5'' AR. I sold my 7.5'' AR pistol, and my 16'' to fund this build.18'' Legion Firearms Honeycomb Barrel in FDEBattlecomp 2.0VLTOR MUR upperVTAC 15'' battle railFailzero NiB BCGBCM gunfighter CHUSA Tactical Lower and LPKTimney 3lb trigger groupMagpul MIAD gripMagpul BADMagpul UBR stockI purchased the lower for that I did for two reasons:1. It is a local manufacturer 2. The serial number is my Birth Date (year)3. I had them custom engrave the side at the time of purchaseI'm able to purchase the upper from War Sport, which is also semi-local to me.The LF barrel weights the same amount as a standard profile 11.5'' barrel, so this shouldn't be a really heavy rifle. The lower will be finished with the engraving on Monday, and I believe the upper will be ready on Friday or Monday of next week.I'm trying to decide on optics now. I can go with and eotech and magnifier, or I can drop an adjustable X scope on it.Any recommendations on that one? This will be for out to 400 yards. The budget is around $500. (I already have an eotech but that has no bearing on my practical/useful decision)The upper will look something like this:
6/1/2012 8:39:03 PM
That is going to be a pretty sick setup. I have a magnifier with an aimpoint (4 moa dot) and really like it but don't plan on doing any shooting past 200 yards at the max. Would probably be easier to go further out with a smaller dot like on an EOTech but for your setup I would rather have an adjustable scope. Can always get an offset red dot if you want something for close up too.

anyone have any experience with H & R products?single shot handi-rifles and the such.thanks!
6/3/2012 11:56:48 AM
part of the Freedom Group, Cerberus Capital Managementin other words, junk
6/3/2012 12:01:35 PM
ah, didnt know that.so theyve been ruined just like marlin sucks, H&R made some of the best garands, etc for the army back in ww2 when they contracted everything out.such a shame.
6/3/2012 12:36:56 PM
Thanks for the tip on the browning bar.The fn fnar take down is a huge bitch. You have to take everything out of the gun just to get to the bolt carrier assembly. It's nuts.Right now I'm at the fal and the vepr. I really think ill get both at some point, fal in .308 and vepr in 7.62x54r.The pt 91 seems cool too but without any proof the roller locking recoil operated setup is more accurate than a gas piston operated setup I don't think I'll consider it. From what ive read it mangles brass and is finnicky about ammo. It would be one thing if it just didnt like shitty rounds but even certain high quality rounds tend to jam ( fail to extract )from what I have read. Now someone chamber something fun for 300 win mag. :-)
6/3/2012 10:57:09 PM
we're still waiting for pics
6/3/2012 11:05:37 PM
the VEPR is more than likely going to mangle brass as well.every AK ive ever had kicks it at least 20 yards with a substantial ding from the extractor.VEPR is the same exact mechanism... the russians wanted to make damn sure cartridges extracted and were thrown free no matter what.most of their ammo was steel cased anyway... they dont give a shit about reloading.

lol typical forum response, ask questions, get answered with shut up and buy something... Soon enough... What FFL do yall recommend to have stuff shipped through ?
6/4/2012 9:31:11 AM
I have mine sent to Sovereign Guns because they are $15 / transfer
6/4/2012 11:19:19 AM
in my search for a full size range/house gun, I tried out a few different pistols Saturday. including a gov't 1911 that, at 15yds, put my G17 groups to shame ... I haven't decided yet, but as far as 1911s: the general consensus is that RIA makes a decent gun at a decent price, yes? also looking at springfield and maybe kimber. I'll probably do some more shooting this weekend, and hopefully narrow things down a little.
6/4/2012 4:21:35 PM
RIA, YesSpringfield, YesKimber, people love them, but I would pass.
6/4/2012 5:41:45 PM
haven't had range time with one yet, but for a couple hundred bucks more Remington has a govt 1911 that you may want to check into. i had a kimber and i liked it but wasn't overly impressed for the $$
6/4/2012 6:16:37 PM
fuck remington
6/4/2012 6:17:55 PM
Basically all three guns shoot similar. Spend your money wisely. Ria has a double stack .45 that I want badly.[Edited on June 4, 2012 at 6:25 PM. Reason : .]
6/4/2012 6:19:25 PM
i got my mom a ruger 1911, but only because lawmens in charlotte was selling them at about $550. if you got on the waiting list now however, i imagine youd be waiting for at least 6 months. its a very nice gun, especially for the money.every kimber ive ever handled had a rusty barrel (surface rust). i always thought this was strange.
6/4/2012 6:39:27 PM
I had a Kimber and absolutely loved it. It's one of the guns that I really regret selling. That said, I probably wouldn't buy another one. I got an insane deal on mine and jumped on it. If I was buying new now, I'd go with a Springfield or RIA. The Ruger seems to have some great reviews but they're just too difficult to find right now without paying a premium. In other news, I ordered an Apex Tactical DCAEK & RAM (Carry trigger & Reset Assist) for my M&P9 compact today. I love the gun so I'm really looking forward to getting rid of the vague trigger.
6/4/2012 8:01:27 PM
If I were going to get a cheaper 1911 it would be this one:http://www.stiguns.com/the-sti-spartan-v-2/
6/4/2012 10:34:16 PM
the problem with the spartan is it's just that. Its a well built gun but all the tricks sti is known for (basically a gun that you purchased that feels like its' had $500 in gun smithing done to it) that one doesn't have. I mean non ramped bushing barel, stock guide rod, etc. I mean its basically a RIA with a $300 STI logo on it imho.I can get two RIA Tactical high capacity .45s for that price have 4x the rounds available and they'll shoot just about the same. http://www.armscorusa.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=8&Itemid=21
6/5/2012 8:36:27 AM
How much are those? Didn't see a price. If I were going to get another 1911 I would probably step up and get a nicer model. Although I would probably just end up getting an XDm or Glock instead.
6/5/2012 10:16:45 AM
i got quoted $479 for the double stack .45 from Old Town Enterprises in VA
6/5/2012 11:35:25 AM
The custom engraving on the lower serialed with my bday.
6/5/2012 12:52:04 PM
^ that turned out really nicethose of you with crimson trace lasers - CTC will send you a free set of batteries once a year for life. see http://www.crimsontrace.com/company/promotions/free_batteries_for_lifealso - I'm looking at the RIA full size tactical, probably in 9mm since I already have a ton of rounds and brass. Fumbler - do you still have the RIA you talked about in your very first post?]
