We made the semi finals of the ACC tournament 3 of the last 4 years. Each year we were 1 win away from competing for the ACC tournament championship. You know, the thing the conference gives a trophy for? I think some of the advanced metrics and efficiency stats have skewed some people's perspectives on what the object of the season is in college basketball. It's not to have a consistent regular season. It's to win championship trophies.
1/29/2016 11:58:29 AM
I think we just differ in our opinions. No big deal. I'd prefer to win the ACC regular season or tournament. To me, either of those count as an ACC championship. Regular season might not be recognized, but we would def hang a banner for it.

I like how some of you dickfors think that winning titles and competing for championships is simply a matter of firing the coach. I MEAN RICK BARNES HATES UNC LETS HIRE HIS UNEMPLOYED ASS AMIRITE?
1/29/2016 8:39:53 PM
Its not that simple but theres no point in keepimg a coach once they show they cant really do it. Id come to that conclusion if gott still csnt have a good year with dsj.
1/29/2016 11:32:51 PM
Is Johnny Jones a good coach?
1/29/2016 11:38:16 PM
no but this sort of mediocrity might just do for a perennial top 10 football school.

GG getting the team to play a complete game today against a tough, well coached team.
1/30/2016 5:48:36 PM
Tough luck gott, ifv Henderson was healthy, we would of had a decent season
1/30/2016 5:57:04 PM
^^Shit, he's coaching a women's team now? How the mighty hath fallen.

Wikipedia says Rick Barnes coaches the men's team...

I never knew muh Vawls had a men's team
1/30/2016 10:06:00 PM
So barnes only missed the tournament once in 17 years at texas and 5 times in his ~30? year career.
1/30/2016 10:10:33 PM
Painfully obvious Anya hurts the team. Stop playing him. Season is over, let Kirk get more burn. At least with Kirk in we can run more and be more exciting. That is for the few of us that are watching still.
2/1/2016 11:01:34 PM
at least Rowan is hitting his sophomore slump earlyby conference play next season he should be playing like a junior
2/1/2016 11:06:47 PM
Archie got revenge against La Salle the other night. Don't wanna get swept by the 233rd best team in the country.btw, William & Mary's RPI is 36th in the nation, for comparison[Edited on February 1, 2016 at 11:14 PM. Reason : .]

I will give Gott credit for keeping the guys playing hard and keeping the games close. He just doesn't have the firepower other than Cat this year.
2/1/2016 11:22:36 PM
terrible coaching today. i know you can't take away everything but strategically take away SOMETHING. we gave them everything today. awful defensive strategy.
2/6/2016 3:59:47 PM
Out coached K again.
2/6/2016 4:02:31 PM
if we could just hold teams to their average, we'd be decent.
2/6/2016 4:08:15 PM
The zone to start the 2nd half hurt as it gave Duke a ton of wide open 3s. The 3/4 court pressure was a good add, but they should have slipped back to man to man and switched screens. Make Duke beat us with penetration, not wide open 3s.Oh well just wish we had more depth as the team clearly can't keep up the intensity for 40 minutes.
2/6/2016 4:19:51 PM
^ If we let Duke drive all game I imagine 3 of our players would of fouled out. But yeah, screen defense is abysmal, there's nothing I can say about that.
2/6/2016 4:27:20 PM
Its like they've never heard of a 3-2 zone. "make them beat us with penetration" doesn't work if you give up layups and fouls on every play. We still gave up open 3s too. We let them do what they wanted to do on their terms. Terrible idea.
2/6/2016 4:30:22 PM
We did have several times in the 2-3 zone where our guys let Duke have way too much space for open 3's. Other than that can't complain too much.
2/6/2016 8:48:03 PM
We just need more bodies, need recruiting

Conceding to the 4 hall of fame programs (they are in a different universe), do you ever see us finishing top 5 in the new acc under Gott?VirginiaNotre DameMiamiWill we ever get past all of these programs at once? Obviously, with year to year variation we can finish ahead of 1 or 2 of these teams in a good year but do you ever see us finishing in the top 2 of this group? Then theres this groupFlorida StatePittsburghVirginia TechClemsonIts going to be tough to finish ahead of all 4 of these teams in the next 2 years.[Edited on February 7, 2016 at 3:00 PM. Reason : 1 of those last 4 programs will turn the corner. ]
2/7/2016 2:52:18 PM
Yes. Louisville and UNC have uncertain short-term futures and Syracuse has no guarantees post-Boeheim. Duke? Nah...
2/7/2016 5:15:53 PM
UNC will never not be a top 10 program. So if those two drop out momentarily then Virginia Notre Dame fill in their place. Theres no reason to assume we would surpass programs with recent championships.
2/7/2016 5:59:13 PM
Recent titles? Recruits were 6 when Syracuse won their one and UVa/ND never have. Not saying it'll be easy to surpass the top five programs but in basketball it doesn't take years to compete. I actually don't think Gott is a great coach but he can recruit talented teams who can give us a chance.
2/7/2016 6:57:13 PM
No I'm saying if 2 of those programs fall off then programs with recent titles like UVA and Notre Dame would be the top candidates to replace them and if not we'd be in a dogfight at best with a handful of other programs trying to move up.
2/7/2016 7:11:17 PM
oh, conference titles. I don't think many recruits care about that.[Edited on February 7, 2016 at 7:13 PM. Reason : .]
2/7/2016 7:13:11 PM
I'm not talking about recruits. I'm sure we'll get good recruits regardless. I'm talking about positioning in the conference...results on the court.
2/7/2016 7:14:40 PM
if we can continue recruiting well, it's irrelevant which team won the conference tourney a few years earlier.
2/7/2016 7:17:03 PM
I know, I'm just saying its more likely that they will still be better than us.
2/7/2016 7:18:34 PM
We've recruited well since Gottfried was hired. Our defense sucks ass regardless. It would suck ass with Lebron.

Alabama: 210–131 (.616) 83–82 (.503)NC State: 104–63 (.623) 41–39 (.513)It is what it is. This is his record. I hope we are in a position to luck into an ACC title once the Hall of Famers retire(Boeheim, K, Pitino, Roy).
2/8/2016 12:39:57 PM
It should be mandatory to post the records of all NCSU coaches whenever his record is compared to his time at bama. This provides a bit more perspective.Name W-L Win % YearsEverett Case 377-134 .738 1947–64†Press Maravich 38-13 .745 1964–66Norm Sloan 266-127 .677 1966–80Jim Valvano 209-114 .647 1981–90Les Robinson 78–98 .434 1991–96Herb Sendek 191-132 .591 1996–06Sidney Lowe 86-78 .524 2006-11Mark Gottfried 89-50 .640 2011-current

The ACC was tougher in the 80s right? Apples to Oranges
2/8/2016 12:59:28 PM
I don't know if that is necessarily true. there are some great teams (and some awful teams) in the ACC right now. Its a closer comparison than ACC vs SEC.
2/8/2016 1:27:33 PM
Bullet, synapse, what do you guys think. Would you be happy if Gott gave us the same identical results over 2017- 2022 as he did over 2011-2016?
2/8/2016 1:43:13 PM
Gott at least brings some excitement to the athletics of NC State. There is so little buzz or excitement around our athletics in general. We need that because the school isn't a national brand and doesn't sell itself like other schools might. Why the Lowe and TOB choices were so bad, especially TOB.
