nice bokeh.what aperture were you shooting with?[Edited on March 2, 2010 at 8:52 PM. Reason : i'd clone out that hair in the top left. ]
3/2/2010 8:52:20 PM
Sick bokeh, really nice focus.
3/2/2010 8:55:02 PM
Yeah, cool shot.
3/2/2010 11:24:21 PM
raise your hand if you tried to wipe that hair off your monitor.
3/2/2010 11:38:01 PM
Exposure: 1/200Aperture: f/5.3Focal Length: 160 mm (240mm effective with the I bought a cheap camera 1.5x crop.)The background being >50' away might be some reason why it is so out of focus.Oh, I suck a photoshop so much that I don't even have it. I've played with GIMP before but never really got anywhere so that hair is probably there to say.[Edited on March 3, 2010 at 4:57 AM. Reason : 1.5x is great if everything is far away.]
3/3/2010 4:53:22 AM
Nice shot! There is a chain link fence around the construction site next door and groups of those birds are always lighting on the fence like that. I've been wanting to get a shot of them. Your background is a lot nicer though.

anyone interested in Speedlite 430EX flash for canons?
3/3/2010 9:28:58 AM
^interested, but likely don't have the money for.
3/3/2010 9:29:32 AM
i think i will sell the flash before considering selling the entire camera setup. The rare times i use the camera its usually outdoors at races or sporting events. So that makes me feel a little better.I was going to keep it and let my dad use it on his 300d but that doesnt make sense either[Edited on March 3, 2010 at 10:04 AM. Reason : dr]
3/3/2010 10:03:34 AM
How much do you want for it?
3/3/2010 10:36:34 AM
browsing ebay to get an ideaI would take no less than $220, even on tdub, since I can get that easily on ebay with the worst ad and no selling experience!I have the box, protective sleeve, everything it came with, and it is in great shape.[Edited on March 3, 2010 at 10:44 AM. Reason : sleeve]
3/3/2010 10:43:05 AM
$220 for a used Canon 430EX? Seriously?Even if it was a 430EXII, $220 is a bit absurd.
3/3/2010 12:54:38 PM
make offers then
3/3/2010 1:49:45 PM
yeah oops looking on ebay, those prices are for the mark II. So I think $125 is fair.....

I REALLY need to replace my tripod and bag. What are you guys using? My tripod is an old cheapie that's been beat to hell. I'd like to get something new for under $200. Primarily going to be landscape but also some lowlight interior stuff.
3/4/2010 9:42:44 PM
IMO, the ballhead you chose is probably more important than the tripod. Both are important and a sturdy tripod is a necessity for long exposures, but ease of maneuverability with your camera is really, really key. I love my ball head because it's really easy to use and you can move the camera in any way you want. That said, here's the set-up I have and I would certainly recommend both components.Tripod is a Manfrotto 190XB ($139.95)http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/479931-REG/Manfrotto_190XB_190XB_Tripod_Legs_Black_.htmlBall head is Manfrotto 488RC2 (apparently discontinued)http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/272779-REG/Manfrotto_488RC2_488RC2_Midi_Ball_Head.html-similar item according to B&H ($129.95)http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/660311-REG/Manfrotto_488RC2_488RC2_Midi_Ball_Head.htmlA little more than what you wanted to spend, but just my $0.02.]
3/5/2010 7:22:30 PM
Yeah, that was supposed to be $300, not $200. I wouldn't mind being able to get something good for $200 but I've been looking around and the $250-300 range was looking like a good spot for something good without getting crazy. That ball head is at the top of my list so thanks for reaffirming that for me. My biggest problem is the legs. Since, like you said, the head is arguably the most important part, I'm having a hard time finding any kind of good recommendations there. I'll be sure to check those out.

Meh. I don't like the crop on the second one and the fence is kind of distracting in the first one. Is there a way you could take those without anything in the way?
3/6/2010 9:18:21 PM
Every single bridge over an interstate/highway has a massive fence over it. I'm looking on Google Maps to try to find a bridge, probably in Worcester, that only has a small fence ahah.

3/7/2010 6:17:38 PM
^I'll have to go with the first one, mainly because I like the angle more than the second one.http://www.flickr.com/photos/unincbrtn/4414766703/...back to a subtle HDR

3/7/2010 7:10:34 PM
HDR just for the sake of HDR is fucking retarded and I am tired of seeing it. It will not make an otherwise bad photo look better. It will not make a poorly composed photo of nothing look interesting.Learn to walk before you try and run. Learn fundamentals of composition and exposure before attempting to move on to this nonsense.(yeah yeah yeah... RAWR RAWR RAWR... but I seriously believe that worrying about gimmicky things like this is hindering progress if you're still learning)
3/7/2010 7:39:22 PM
I downloaded the software about a week ago; I've had my DSLR for about 3 weeks. I'm definitely still learning, but I like to try things out. I apologize for the fact that our means of expression clearly differ. No need to troll like a motherfucker about me trying new shit out...[Edited on March 7, 2010 at 7:50 PM. Reason : ...]

pezking,I would have focused on the rings, and then re-framed the shot.
3/7/2010 7:52:01 PM
yea, I think I'm going to redo a few. And I need a damn flash!
3/7/2010 7:55:52 PM
I agree with Ronny. HDR should be like makeup, it is done well if you don't notice it.Photographs shouldn't look like a Boris Vallejo painting. Unless you're subject is metallic bikini clad woman riding a dragon.
