It'll be a slap on the wrist. Tonight everyone will be toasting and patting each other on the backs on Franklin Street. They'll get away with it.

We just have to keep our nose to the grind and beat them on the field.

When the white smoke is visible in the triangle we will know that the notice of allegations has been received. What is this the Vatican?

I hope they have to vacate all of their wins from the 2009 season because of Austin's ineligibility

It wouldn't really mean much going forward, but it would be great ammo for all the UNC fans trying to compare Butch and TOB over their 4 years at these respective programs

^I don't think we'll find out about specific punishments for a while still but the accusations should let us figure out if the wins are vacated if they played ineligible players.

Greg Barnes just said UNC has 90 days to respond to the Letter of Allegations

I'm all for it, screw a quick verdict, let them sweat it out more

Yeah, UNC gets to respond to the allegations before any punishment is handed down I do believe.

buddy txt'ed me this but he's be huge wrong before.

"UNC penalties...Vacate all wins 2008 and 2009, 3-4 scholarships over 3yrs, not tv no bowl ban"

my understanding is this the letter of allegations says hey you did shit wrong what is your (the school's) response. and usually the schools will say yes we did this wrong and will self impose X penalties. the NCAA will either agree or add more. Maybe i'm wrong??

your buddy is full of shit because the NOA just outlines the perceived violations, penalties don't come until later.

Two questions:

How can Carolina REALLY think they should be allowed to redact the NCAA notice of allegations, and why isn't the NC BOG stepping in and making them air that shit out? THE PUBLIC DEMANDS TO KNOW

and

Can the NCAA release a copy of the NOA to the press directly, or must the investigators go through their back channels in an attempt to figure out the information being blacked out?

^I'm sure the NCAA CAN release the document themselves but there is no incentive to do that and would probably tick off a lot of the member institutions when they act unilaterally. The NCAA would probably just assume no one knows anything to avoid making themselves look bad or having to pander to public reaction.

my understanding is that they have had it for a while...or known that it was coming as early as last week but the NCAA didnt release anything to the public about it. but they potentially COULD if asked...they would limit it to player A and player B, not names obviously.

they have been shuffling for a few days trying to cover up as much as possible and still make it appear as a "review"

but yes...Christmas in June is a good analogy. Some big stuff.

Good summation here

Quote :
"Mark Armstrong

What happens next? AKA - this is a long way from over: WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? School & Individuals named in the notice of allegations have up to 90 days to respond in writing, and they can ask for an extension.
Once the response is filed, it will be sent to the “Committee of Infractions” where they will determine the final infractions and levy sanctions. A PRIVATE hearing will be held by the Committee of Infractions.. this hearing would most likely involve the UNC President, AD Baddour, Coach Davis, Compliance Officers and possibly even players involved. At this hearing UNC and others would plead their case. The COI would then deliberate and announce the final infractions and sanctions. The announcement would come 8-12 weeks after the hearing. The school will be notified 24-48 hours prior to the announcement, and the NCAA would make the announcement via a MEDIA Conference Call or News Conference."

god I wish the NCAA would just come out and be like:

"Normally, we don't do stuff like this, but these fuckholes have been painting us as the villains here when they're the ones who broke our clearly written and easily enforceable rules" and then proceed to publish the NOA in its entirety.

hahaha, damn their sanctions could come out RIGHT as football season is starting. What kind of damper would it be on the season to know right off the bat that you can't ever be ranked (because you're on probation) or be eligible for a bowl from the starting line?

In my wildest dreams Butch is suspended for half the season, then loses to us, then is fired at the end of the season, the recruiting class collapses and they lose 5 scholarships a year for 4 years, and the administration chickens out and decides to take the State basketball route and play it safe and become irrelevant for 10 years.

But I doubt this will happen so I shouldn't even bother getting my hopes up.

^^exactly. he was a middle of the road coach that couldnt beat us even when he was cheating at every opportunity and paying for players.

makes them look that much dumber the longer they hold onto him and the chance that he messes up again ala SMU.

I swear the more time that passes more and more of them will claim they should have won a NC and no amount of explaining that teams that only beat W&M by 2 points don't win National Championships will dissuade them.

Either Marc James or Bama Z was saying earlier that they could've played Auburn in the national championship game last year...I did a mental facepalm

Everyone also seems to act like its a foregone conclusion that they would've beaten LSU at full strength...despite the fact that LSU whooped them in the 1st half and basically played John Fox Les Miles 2nd half football playing not to lose instead of playing to win

^That's the worst thing about that game is that it made them think they were better than they were. If Les Miles doesn't go all crazy Les Miles then the narrative is completely different.

People need to realize that Auburn, Alabama, and Oregon were out there dropping 50+ on teams while Carolina is barely beating teams. You can try and say it was that the defense was depleted by suspension but its not like the offense was out there blowing people out.

Exactly. Even if their defense had been at full strength, it would've had to have scored multiple touchdowns a game to make up for that shitty offense.

^ I seem to recall one of the D players saying that they were so good the offense only had to score "a" touchdown to win any given game.

My hope is that UNC gets hammered back to the stone age, and that their administration overreacts and imposes greater sanctions on the program. Let's be honest UNC is the only program in the state that can consistently compete against us for recruits. If we knock them out then we will begin to get the top players that do actually want to stay in their home state, instead of going to the likes of Clemson, VT, or the SEC. I want for us to become a national power and THE football school in North Carolina. I don't care if we have to have UNC handicapped to do so, b/c in the end it's all about wins. A good example of this is UF and how they benefited from FSU and Miami being down during part of the 2000s.

you are correct - assuming we build on success of last year and dont turn into late Amato-era teams that shot themselves in the foot repeatedly. Regardless, it will take 3-5 years of success to really compete with the bolded teams above for the best players. All have the kind of records and football brands that we can only hope to imitate for now.

So basically they won't release anything about the FB program unless a judge forces them to in a court of law.
