yeah, it went live about a month ago (something like that) for the thunderbolt... and those directions you linked to are the ones that i've tried multiple times since GB went live... my problem is that when i "check new" under the software update, nothing shows up

I got GB on my Thunderbolt in early/mid October via the OTA update.
12/8/2011 9:28:22 AM
if i follow that, what's the best way to completely back up the phone prior to the update? i haven't read much into it, but definitely don't want to redo all apps, settings, etc
12/8/2011 12:43:56 PM
i'm closer to getting ICS on my nexus s or Kindle Fire than you guys are to getting the galaxy nexus lol[Edited on December 8, 2011 at 12:51 PM. Reason : .]

My money is on Galaxy Nexus Q2 2012Verizon is going to drag their feet on releasing it until their payment system is ready, don't want Google Wallet to get a jump on them
12/8/2011 1:42:43 PM
That's a pretty dumb bet, considering the device is IN STORES already. It's just not released.

Anyone else having trouble purchasing apps through the web market?

12/9/2011 11:19:03 AM
I don't think there's a single mobile OS that has a sleep function...
12/9/2011 11:21:02 AM
SLEEP MODE ON MOBILE OS = TURNING SCREEN OFF, just press the power button once.If you actually want to shutdown, press and hold the power button. Startup times aren't that bad.
12/9/2011 11:23:18 AM
I had no problem just now, but it was just one app.

Hum, still can't purchase anything ... and I would really like to get Need for Speed SHIFT, which is 10 cents and for some reason isn't showing up on the main page.
12/9/2011 11:40:01 AM
neither can i
12/9/2011 12:13:34 PM
Google Wallet has completely crapped out, I can't even see past transactions....
12/9/2011 12:19:49 PM
I guess you could say that their 10 cent app promotion celebration is a smashing crashing success!

I'm about to upgrade to my first smartphone. I don't think I would use a 4G phone to its full potential, so what are the better/best 3G phones available for a Verizon plan?
12/11/2011 12:02:50 AM
Keep in mind that you don't HAVE to use 4g, and you don't pay extra for 4g. I only use 4g on my phone when i'm watching netflix or something like that. Otherwise, I have the 4g radio off to help with battery life. But generally speaking, all of the other features are going to be better on a 4g phone compared to a 3g phone simply because they're likely to be newer phones. The iphone 4 (and 4s) is 3G, and the 4 is very reasonably priced.... but that's not android if you're sure you want an android based phone.[Edited on December 11, 2011 at 12:12 PM. 12/11/2011 12:10:24 PM
^^if you're using vzw, then get a 4G phone to get the 4GB/month for $30 deal. it will probably come in handy once you're really into using your phone more
12/11/2011 12:40:03 PM
the only big advantage of going with a 3G-only phone over a 4G is that they'll likely be cheaper with upfront costagreed that the nicer phones will be 4G, but of course you pay for "nicer"...if your budget is $200-300, go with a 4G...if it's more like $100-150, get a nicer 3Gi did forget about the verizon pay-for-2GB-get-4GB deal going on right now, but as noted, that's only with 4Gi rarely use more than 2GB myself, mostly because we have wifi at work and i have it at home, so it connects to that whenever i'm either of those two places[Edited on December 11, 2011 at 1:41 PM. 12/11/2011 1:39:52 PM
yeh, if you can be on wifi a lot, then your data usage won't be so high. my work wifi has restrictions just like our ethernet, so I don't use much wifi there.
12/11/2011 3:58:44 PM
Any recommendations for an Android-based "mp3 player" that I could set up with Google Voice, Skype, etc. to make it a wifi-only cell phone? I don't use my phone enough to justify paying for a voice+data plan and can put a cheap pre-pay phone in the glove box for emergencies, but I wouldn't mind upgrading to a new mp3 player anyway and might as well turn it into a phone. This would be my first smartphone, and I'm not too worried about budget since I would be cancelling my current cell plan. So far, I'm looking at the Samsung Galaxy 5.0 (http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy-5-0-Android-Player/dp/B005P1VNDW/) but I'm down for recommendations. Looking for good sound quality, battery life and the ability to play decent games; I'm not too concerned with browsing speed, though it would be a plus.
12/11/2011 5:15:51 PM
seems like for that much money you could set up a real phone, google voip solution, AND get a better mp3 player
12/11/2011 5:24:59 PM
that's pretty much the best Android player, go with the Samsung Galaxy 5.0
12/11/2011 5:26:03 PM
^^ but could you do that with that much money if you're buying the phone off-contract? if so, what would you recommend?
12/11/2011 5:48:11 PM
well there's this, no idea how good the phone is though...http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Virgin+Mobile+-+LG+Optimus+V+No-Contract+Mobile+Phone+-+Black/1879739.p?id=1218299164111&skuId=1879739&st=optimus%20v&cp=1&lp=1

I think you understood right; that is what I want to do. But I would like a solution that's portable (contingent on other locations having a wi-fi connection), instead of it being strictly home-based with an adapter like what you linked. I didn't know products like that existed, though, so it would be a good option if I ever felt like having a "landline" in the future.
12/11/2011 8:54:21 PM
Ah, gotcha. Go with the Galaxy, then
12/11/2011 10:21:54 PM
ha, looks like some people were able to get the tards at Best Buy to sell them earlyhttp://www.droid-life.com/2011/12/11/some-verizon-employees-risking-it-all-to-sell-you-a-galaxy-nexus-early/
12/12/2011 8:35:02 AM
does anyone know how to force the amazon appstore to save to phone memory instead of the SD card? I have 4 gigs free on my phone, but it keeps wanting to put everything on my 2 gig SD, which is full. there's no option under settings. getting frustrated as every google search I do returns jsut pages and pages of app store reviews and the like and no real help
12/12/2011 9:57:17 AM
get a 32GB card?
12/12/2011 10:55:31 AM
Seriously.BTW I've been blowing up the 10 cent apps.

I'm up to 25 apps in the last 5 days. wtf is wrong with me?
12/12/2011 12:43:39 PM
Nothing, you spent $2.50If only I could buy some of them
12/12/2011 1:13:45 PM
Does anyone have a Nexus S 4G they would want to part with for cheap?I have an EVO3D and a Hero to facilitate the trade in whichever capacity is fair.
