yeah but i don't know what parts i want LOL... I know i could probably assemble them but what's a good light trigger? what's a good heavy .308 barrel +I guess i need to do a lot of research... but i don't even know where to start for that on an a/r (sorry, i'm a bolt gun guy for the most part)

Anyone use different takedown pins than the stock ones? Thinking that could be a nice little modification to make breaking down the rifle easier.
5/1/2012 3:57:14 PM
so if I'm not drinking, but the restaurant servers alcohol, I can't conceal carry inside right? Can I leave my pistol in the glove box?
5/1/2012 4:06:57 PM
^ Correct. As it stands, any establishment that serves alcohol for consumption purposes is off limits. You can leave it in your car though. Have to be careful of places like Whole Foods who have a little bar in some of them where you can drink. Of course they have a no firearms sign so it would be off limits in NC. In TX they don't have the proper sign to prevent me from CC but they could kick me out.

Anybody have any opinions on the Sig P250 .45 ACP? Specifically the compact one?

Anyone use an accu-wedge in an AR with success? I mean at $5 it ain't breaking the bank to give it a shot, just looking into the cheaper accurizing steps first
5/1/2012 6:14:23 PM
description of the gun? what size groups do you get off the bench and with what ammo?
5/1/2012 6:18:23 PM
Accu-wedge doesn't actually do anything but keep it from rattling. I've used a precision gun with and without one, no difference. That said, it's nice to have if the slop annoys you, but a couple hundredths of slop isn't going to affect accuracy at all.
5/1/2012 6:32:17 PM
Well even as it sits it's way more accurate than i am. Haven't done any real bench testing, just shoulder-firing at some cans out in the cut. Guess I should get some hard data first, but there isn't much slop to begin with
5/1/2012 6:37:07 PM
that's about what i expected
5/1/2012 6:41:10 PM
I have the Sig P250 in 9mm.I hate it. The trigger pull is 3/4'' long, and a constant 8lbs. The trigger has to return fully forward to reset. If you love a good double action revolver trigger then you may like the P250.The ergonomics are very good.

Just ordered the Troy TRX 13.8" Free Float Rail for my AR-10 along with a Magpul PRS Stock. Need to get a bipod and that build will be pretty much done. Thinking of getting the Magpul Angled Fore Grip to have a good place to hold it and maybe a red dot on a 1 o'clock offset or on top of my scope in case I need to make a quick up close shot.
5/2/2012 2:34:42 PM
probably going to buy a colt / sauer grand african in 458mag.found one at a price i cant ignore for the condition.might put it on layaway though until i close on my new house, lol.will keep you all informed on ripping off my face / dislocating and breaking fingers.will be another fun handloading cartridge.

Educate me on my options at this pricepoint oh fellow AR builders.[Edited on May 2, 2012 at 8:57 PM. Reason : .]

it doesn't have a dust cover or a forward assist, if that stuff matters to you.
5/2/2012 9:06:09 PM
^^ What are you looking for out of the rifle? If all you care about is plinking then that would be fine. If you are going to want to upgrade it I would either start from scratch or choose a different completely built rifle.
5/2/2012 9:14:31 PM
^^^ From what I've read and from what friends who have them have told me, the rifle seems to be a really good value.^^ The forward assist is useless and just adds weight. A dust cover would be nice.
5/3/2012 12:36:05 AM
^^ I'm looking out for a friend. Mostly plinking, but he wants to have the option of hunting with it too. I figure this production rifle will have no issue doing either. Really this comes down to a value. Is there a better rifle 5.56 Nato AR for equal or less?[Edited on May 3, 2012 at 1:45 AM. Reason : .]

wtf do you hunt with 5.56?

.223 Remington is one of the most popular varmint calibers
5/3/2012 10:07:09 AM
that's what i was gonna ask... same thing you can use .22lr for or .22hornet... or... (etc)

very popular with the coyotes and groundhogs.

PSA is doing a $299 16'' upper deal right now. Need a BCG and complete lower and you have a rifle. On the low end, you could finish it and have a complete rifle for $600.

5/3/2012 7:07:26 PM
I want a forward assist, and no dust cover. Actually, that is how I have two of my ARs. I didn't bother putting on a dust cover. It really serves no purpose for anything that MOST people do.
5/3/2012 7:09:37 PM

5/3/2012 7:38:13 PM
That is dirt cheap, I don't know how they can make any money at that price without sacrificing quality. Doesn't exactly have the best reputation over at M4Carbine.[Edited on May 3, 2012 at 8:24 PM. Reason : .]
5/3/2012 8:15:09 PM
For anyone who is just using it as a 'grown-up' toy, there is nothing wrong with that kit.
5/3/2012 8:26:03 PM
Sure, I put it in the same category as Kel-Tec or Hi-Point.
5/3/2012 8:36:25 PM
keltec is not in the same category as fucking hi-point.
5/3/2012 9:11:05 PM
and that AR is better than either.

so every gun you own has to be "defend my life" quality?what is the dollar cut-off there?plenty of expensive shit guns as well; plenty of cheap good ones too.
5/3/2012 9:51:55 PM
Pretty much. One of the main reasons I am fixing up my own AR at the moment. I built it on a budget the first time and regret it now.The only gun I own that I wouldn't really want to trust my life to is my Marlin 60 but that is because I don't trust .22 ammo more than the gun itself. Same reason I pretty much only buy guns in the calibers commonly used by law enforcement or the military because if the SHTF that will be the most common ammo I can find. Only exceptions are my S&W 686 just because I have always had a thing for that gun and my SKS, a gun given to me. Both of which I would trust my life to though, they are pretty much bullet proof.I owned a pretty nice Springfield 1911 but the thing had too many FTFs so I got rid of it. Really made me sad because I really wanted to like that gun, now I am timid on getting another 1911. My ground rules are basically, don't buy guns like Taurus or Keltec and if a gun I buy doesn't function well, get rid of it. I don't look down on people who don't share my views on owning guns or anything like that, just my thing, I totally get just getting a gun for an adult toy. Also, I don't really associate price with quality, as you mentioned, plenty of expensive guns don't work as well. That's why one of my main go-to guns is my Glock 19. Only cost $500 and I have put thousands of rounds through it without a hiccup.[Edited on May 3, 2012 at 10:02 PM. Reason : .]

so here's a (fairly) hypothetical question I've been pondering for some time:my fiancee works at a jewelry store that RPD provides security for. The officers are off-duty, but they are wearing uniforms, guns, radios, etc. I know a few of the officers and we routinely shoot the shit while I'm in there visiting. If I was to go in while CCing, do I really have to notify every officer that "approaches or addresses" me that I am carrying? Even if they just walk up and say "Hey jtw208, good to see you again" ??*not looking for legal advice, just opinions
5/4/2012 4:43:23 PM
Only need to notify if dealing in a official capacity. Just talking; noDL check point; yesAsking directions; noIf unsure, better safe than sorry

Put some new furniture on the AR-10 today, still waiting for the low profile gas block to come in and decide what flash hider to put on but other than that this gun is complete (besides a bipod). Before:After:Please excuse the shitty camera phone quality. Added a Magpul PRS stock, Magpul extended trigger guard, and Troy TRX Extreme 13.8" free float rail.[Edited on May 4, 2012 at 6:07 PM. Reason : noob fail]
