someone is trying to get donated vacation time for another coworker (who i don't know and have never met, they work in a totally different area) and it's taking everything i have to be polite and empathetic about the situation
10/22/2018 8:56:29 AM
What's the situation, then?
10/22/2018 9:14:20 AM
it doesn't matter, vacation sharing programs are bad in general and pressuring people to donate is bad (i'm also not sure if i'm even able to donate my time, i work as a consultant and many of their employee policies and perks apply to me but not all -- but that has nothing to do with my opinion on vacation donation programs)

So this is basically my hell today with a bunch of the more enthusiastic office members pestering me all day about not wearing a costume. If you wanna do this nonsense fine, just leave me out of it

I just found out at 6 pm tonight that I will be leaving at 6 am to travel to Maryland/Virginia for work for the next 3 or 4 days. I don't mind traveling with work every now and then, but I would like more than 12 hours notice. Lucky for me the only thing I have planned this week is to go to the NC State football game and I have already voted.

based on my talk with the recruiter, it would be slightly more than what i make now, which is industry average. and i have pretty good benefits.also one of them said he's a 9-3 guy. he works from 5:30-8:30 at home, works 9-3 at the office, then works from 3:30-6 at home. lolllll[Edited on December 4, 2018 at 6:37 PM. The building where my office is was flooded and repairs are still ongoing. I'm sitting in a cube it another building for now. There's a dude in an adjacent cube from an entirely different department who just uses a desk here. Homeboy exhales heavily all day long, and especially hard when he is typing an email. He sounds like he's in there lifting weights or something. Typing an email must be really taxing on him. I want to go beat the shit out of him by lunch.

So now all W/Th there's this constant stream of people coming to his desk (which is right next to mine) asking questons/having conversations. So I'm basically at ground zero to hear half tge company's technical problems and general stupid jabbering bullshit all day W/Th.

had a reorg and i got moved to a new team. my boss and my boss's boss have both come out and said they don't really know what they're doing and want to lean on me, but are really happy not doing any work, or at least working at a snail's pace. on 1 hand, im making the highest dollar per hour rate i could ever hope for. on the other hand, every time i've changed jobs, it was because i was bored and not learning anything.

I work in the building in Virginia Beach where a workplace shooting took place in May, but not on my floor, and they won't let us get anything out of it. So they ordered us all new computers and we're getting by. But I'm ready to get some of my stuff out of there. I worked in the building for 11 years. We will never work in that building again.

Nomex is the most miserable clothing material. I'm freezing in this office, but in a few minutes I'm going out to the choppa to get the blood cooler. As soon as the heat and humidity hit this fabric......it feels like i am melting in an oven. Also, WHY is it 66 degrees in this office!!!! My hands have gone numb.
6/20/2019 7:12:30 AM
they make you wear nomex to get something from a helicopter?
6/20/2019 8:41:45 AM
^^My office is freezing too. Even if it is 110 degrees outside, I'm a still shivering in here. In the dead of August, I have a space heater going and I am wearing a winter coat. It's silly.
6/20/2019 9:16:59 AM
^^ well, they make us wear nomex when we are flying around doing HEMS stuff in the helicopter. We also wear the nomex when we are riding around in the whaaaambulance too.I guess technically if I am just hanging out around the office I could take the flight suit off.... it's just kind of hard to put it on in a hurry if the tones go off

Two of my employees have desks outside of my office in a shared space. One of them cuts his fingernails at his desk almost every single day.I brought up in his annual evaluation that personal grooming should be done at home or in the bathroom. He seemed completely oblivious about why this could be an issue and the guy in his 40's. Sadly as a state employee I don't think I can fire him for this.
