I'm just going to back out of this by saying the following:10man's are for pussies. 3v3 is where its at!

I came in here to troll you in the first place. And I don't know... I'm not lagging every 5 seconds in here.

^^ You missed the entire point I was making because you wanted to argue semantics, congrats.

I missed the entire point you were "making" because you didn't bother to make it. Don't blame me for your inability to articulate what you were supposedly thinking.
5/25/2010 6:11:01 PM
so wait how exactly do i tether without jailbreaking? [serious question]
5/25/2010 8:17:02 PM
i believe golovko is correct in that you can't do it anymore on the new firmwares. i tried before a jailbreak was out for whatever version i'm at now and it wouldn't work.
5/25/2010 8:22:07 PM
^^Visit http://www.benm.at on your iPhone if you're still on 3.1.2 or older. I guess they haven't found a fix for 3.1.3 yet.]

If you have 3.1.3 is there anyway you can go back to 3.1.2?
5/27/2010 11:11:16 AM
fuck no sonjust jailbreak and be done with it. it takes like 5 seconds now.actually i think you can go back if you don't have a 3gs.. last time i checked though there was a baseband update with 3.1.3 that couldn't be reversed on 3gs's. i know there was a way to not upgrade the baseband when you upgraded to 3.1.3.. in that case you COULD go back to 3.1.2... but yea, most people didn't know to do that[Edited on May 27, 2010 at 11:17 AM. I don't know how to jailbreak.I do have a 3G, not a 3GS. Would a simple restore put me back to early update?[Edited on May 27, 2010 at 11:21 AM. Reason : ]
5/27/2010 11:20:53 AM
nah.. hold on let me do some reading on it thoughand jailbreaking literally is plugging the phone in and clicking one button now. super super easybut i have to ask, what are you trying to accomplish??edit: to jailbreak just go to this link: http://chronic-dev.org/blog/2010/05/boom/ and download for windows or whatever you're on. plug in iphone, hit "jailbreak" button that shows up after opening that program you just downloaded and 5 seconds later it's done[Edited on May 27, 2010 at 11:35 AM. 5/27/2010 11:33:11 AM
Downgrading so I can tether to laptop without jailbreaking.
5/27/2010 11:40:08 AM
yeah it's really not worth doing from what i've read.. you're far more likely to brick your phone from trying to roll back the baseband update than by jailbreaking. a lot of people are getting them downgraded but then don't have any service..maybe there's an easier way of doing it than what i found though that someone else can help you with
5/27/2010 11:49:45 AM
Yeah don't bother with downgrading. Just jailbreak. You don't even have to use any jailbreak features and just use the tethering if you want.
5/27/2010 1:25:38 PM
^Yeah I went ahead and did that.
5/27/2010 1:37:27 PM
that's what i was thinking.. i'm not sure why most people think jailbreaking is some kind of crazy hacked homebrew firmware that apple is going to destroy your phone if they know you have it kind of thingjailbreaking pretty much just installs one program and unrestricts a few things..it's not that big of a deal in and of itself
5/27/2010 1:38:15 PM
^I ran that jailbreak you linked too, however, it won't give me a tethering option. Is there something else I have to download?
5/27/2010 1:40:13 PM
Jailbreaking won't give you a tethering option by default. I use pdanet to tether. There's also mywi.
5/27/2010 2:26:27 PM
Are they free? I was looking at iphone modem but it costs money
5/27/2010 2:29:25 PM
^ search Cydia for PDAnet, then follow the instructions here:http://www.junefabrics.com/iphone/index.php
5/27/2010 3:00:09 PM
Yup, I could only get it working USB mode. But it works. It's extremely slow.I should also add I can't get the wifi version to work, any recommendations?[Edited on May 27, 2010 at 3:12 PM. Reason : ]
5/27/2010 3:06:43 PM
i got like 3mbpd uploads using the USB version so it def works.. not sure why it's being slow for you though. are you on 3g or edge??
5/27/2010 3:28:31 PM
3g, I'm pretty sure even though I have full bars, I get shitty service at my house.Anyways, have you had trouble trying to set it up with wifi? I wanna try that so I can leave my phone upstairs and connect through it.
5/27/2010 3:31:59 PM
yeah i never could get it to stay connected using wifi so i quit trying.. i was driving down the road while trying to do it though so who knows
5/27/2010 4:06:28 PM
I liked the built in tethering when I was originally jailbroken many months ago. I never bothered to set it up again when I had to restore a few weeks back. Is that not an option anymore?
5/27/2010 4:18:37 PM
Yes there are programs in cydia that will enable "natural" tethering if you're still at 3.1.2. From a quick google search, it looks like none of those work on 3.1.3. If you've upgraded it looks like a program like MyWi is gonna be the only way.
5/28/2010 6:50:54 AM
Or pdanet
5/28/2010 7:21:58 AM
Pdanet is not a program like MyWi?
5/28/2010 7:28:36 AM
^Which do you recommend?
5/28/2010 10:32:34 AM
I've only ever used MyWi so I can't say for sure that it's better, but most everything I've read suggests that it is. http://www.google.com/search?q=mywi+vs+pdanet
5/28/2010 7:26:20 PM
Just tried both. I like MyWi a whole lot better
5/28/2010 8:48:27 PM
Whoops.

My mom's iPhone battery drains from like 100% to 0% within hours and she took it to the iPhone stores and they told her she had to do a complete restore to the new software then redo all her settings etc. Anyone experienced this on a non-jailbroken 3GS? It's going to be a pain to restore everything, because they specifically told her not to restore from a backup because it'll restore whatever software bug is causing the battery to drain.
6/1/2010 8:00:21 PM
6/1/2010 8:02:31 PM
What i'm going to do. I guess i'll just have to put all her settings back and make sure to save the photo roll on the camera.
6/1/2010 8:04:04 PM
What I'd recommend doing is a back-up but don't restore from it. This way if it doesn't fix the issue she still has it.But back up the photos separately for sure.

I'm guessing apps? But posting the question AND the answer would be more helpful.

Camera A-B is pretty cool... live transfer of iphone cam app to ipad... not entirely sure how I will use it but its nifty
6/2/2010 2:13:24 AM
The new plans Giz and Endgadget are reporting are really lame. 2gig cap is the best AT&T can do now? And they still haven't made the promised network upgrades (or expansion, there's no reason to have Edge signal along interstates). Not even halfway through my billing cycle and I'm up to 1.3 gigs already, mainly because I don't leave the wifi searcher on.
6/2/2010 7:02:44 AM
I dont mind the plan, since it will move my 3g iPhone plan down to 15 per month instead of 30 ...I think I used almost 1.5 Gigs total in the past year on the iPhone 3GS.As I posted in the iPad thread though ... I wish there was a $5/month 3G plan for those that dont use the 3G very much, but rather just want it as a backup when there is no WIFI around. Wifi at home and work, and free wifi at many other places ... just no need for me, since I don't travel.

so for new subscribers, the unlimited for $30 plan is no longer available???Sprint still has unlimited data right? Verizon?]
6/2/2010 9:26:46 AM
I have not confirmed, but my account page on my 3g still had the option listed this morning ...So, buy now, or forever hold your limited account
