2/23/2010 1:27:38 PM
my shin splints are feeling MUCH MUCH better
2/23/2010 1:32:49 PM
^ What are you doing to prevent them? Shoes can make a huge difference.
2/23/2010 1:33:58 PM
Just finished a 20 mile bike ride, 1291 calories burned according to my tracker. Going to eat go swim and then probably ride again.
2/23/2010 1:40:05 PM
yeah, i got my shoes fitted to me a while back.i have extremely high arches (when i press down it's only the ball and heel that even touch the ground...so the whole middle part of my foot is "missing") and i overprotonate pretty bad, pretty damn bad.but i never really had too much of problem until i started this hardcore hiit. via the suggestion of a fellow fitness enthusiast....i ice them down postworkout, and stretch them bitches out all day long
2/23/2010 1:41:15 PM
porcha : sorry to disappoint. today has been too clean. i'm eating like a scared endo. not quite water and cheese waste but close....too close Joie : shin splints suck. i got a pretty high arch and have been in shin splint hell for the last 2 months. I find any running on grass isn't as bad. I could probably avoid them with enough ice and new insoles every week >.< . I use black eyed peas as ice bags (finally found something nobody would eat). I am really curious how much my sprinting speed has decreased since gaining 30lbs but I'm too afraid of the pain the next day!
2/23/2010 1:53:00 PM
any advice on preventing side stitches when running? After ~2miles my stomach cramps up pretty bad, i have to stop
2/23/2010 2:00:39 PM
How much do you drink/eat and when before you go on a run?
2/23/2010 2:02:07 PM
^^^i DO need new insoles >.<[Edited on February 23, 2010 at 2:02 PM. Reason : ok i gotta do a quiz]
2/23/2010 2:02:15 PM
deep breathsshallow breathing tends to cause them[Edited on February 23, 2010 at 2:03 PM. Reason : ^^^]
2/23/2010 2:02:39 PM
i try not to have any food 1-2hrs before I exercise, but I'll usually have a bottle of water/gatorade w/me when i go.

2/23/2010 2:04:30 PM
oh hai b00
2/23/2010 2:04:45 PM
I usually don't eat about 3 hours before going for a run, 2 hours if it's early in the morning and I need to get a little fuel in me. There's no hard/fast rule, but things that take longer to break down are things higher in protein and fiber. Water/gatorade before running is ok, but you don't want to drink a whole bottle before you start. I usually get a sip or two from the fountain and then go.
2/23/2010 2:05:21 PM
fayntsee meet-in you here
2/23/2010 2:05:33 PM
Breathe deeply, try making a sound as you exhale, and try to exhale when landing on your left foot.
2/23/2010 2:09:34 PM
That's too damn much to think about when you're trying to breathe. I just breathe yo
2/23/2010 2:10:28 PM
I've never really had an issue with side stitches, but that's what all the runners mags say to do.
2/23/2010 2:11:40 PM
ok ill work at that.it just sucks when i'm trying to prep for a 5k and i can barely make it 2.5 miles cause my stomach is knotting up on me. If i stop, take ~30secs or so i'm good to go again but it'll come back after a bit.also i've noticed sometimes my shoulder will really start to bother me during longer runs. Idk if that's a joint thing or muscles tightening up on me, but it's almost as bad as the side stitches. I've never had any injury there before or muscle/joint problems in the past, no clue what it is. Anybody else ever get that?[Edited on February 23, 2010 at 2:27 PM. Reason : asdf]
2/23/2010 2:27:00 PM
I used to, but I had a severe, severe shoulder issue, and even post surgery it hurt until the joint got stronger. Is it one shoulder or both? I'd suggest doing some light weightlifting, especially stuff tailored for strengthening the rotator cuff.

down to 852 miles to run this year.probably doing spin class tonight.
2/23/2010 3:13:18 PM
^^usually one shoulderit just starts to feel real tight, and i try to rub it a bit but never quite seem to find hte spot where it's hurting, so i thought maybe it was a joint thing and not a muscle issue. As soon as I stop running though, the pain stops
2/23/2010 3:13:48 PM
easy 6.5 mile run on the treadmillabs and push upsmay go for a swim tonight
2/23/2010 3:20:42 PM
^^^^ Yes, marathon training. I did a marathon last month. I have a 60-mile charity bike ride this weekend and the Disney Princess Half-Marathon next weekend. Eventually I'd like to qualify for the Boston Marathon.I follow a pescetarian diet that's heavy on fish, legumes and vegetables. I don't eat a lot of pasta, like most marathon runners, but I do eat a ton of oatmeal, specifically steel cut oats.[Edited on February 23, 2010 at 3:30 PM. Reason : .]

2/23/2010 3:32:49 PM
I'm debating doing a light workout, as I have no fever, and my sickness is now only nasal congestion. I really hate this feeling of not being able to suck in air, and breathe out via my nose with out gargling, or bubbles or back flow or etc.
2/23/2010 3:45:29 PM
Went on an hour long run/walk down the beach today...it was a great workout cause it was high tide so I had to walk/run in the soft sand

In fear of an impending sinus infection, and dr/Rx bill, I went to Target, and bought Affrin. I may have to deal with some rebound, but it will be better than prolonging this shit.
