^ that is fair. I was thinking since they are not traditionally winter time cold. But that is still far different than hot. Mumbai, India has a lot of cases, so perhaps a better example there.

I thought there were places in Iran and Afghanistan that get pretty cold (and snowy)Can mosquitoes spread this t hing (i'm assuming not, but asking for a friend)[Edited on March 27, 2020 at 2:45 PM. Reason : ]
3/27/2020 2:35:09 PM
No. The virus can't replicate inside a mosquito.
3/27/2020 2:54:44 PM
We still have relatively little spread around equatorial Africa.

30 Day shelter in place.Hard to see it being enforced really well but, necessary step. Hope they keep allowing folks to go outside via greenways, parks, golf etc.Massive hit to the economy.
3/27/2020 3:49:08 PM
fyi, stay-at-home and shelter-in-place are not the same thing, the former being a little less strict
3/27/2020 3:55:43 PM
Golf is a joke. I seriously doubt people are practicing proper social distancing while golfing.
3/27/2020 4:13:34 PM
Not like they can enforce either one to the T. Wont be much difference for folks in counties with restrictions already in place, just now its statewide.
3/27/2020 4:14:12 PM
I've seen posts on FB that state without ML, these orders basically mean nothing, and they can try, but not legally cite you for being out.I have no idea if there is any credence to that at all.
3/27/2020 4:22:39 PM
Well, there's plenty of credence to people being stupid and trying to flout whatever recommendations are made. That'll show 'em!
3/27/2020 4:27:19 PM
always a good reminder to disregard everything you see on Facebook especially if what you’re seeing isn’t coming from someone in a position of authority
3/27/2020 4:30:19 PM
Well my whole thing is, why would you even want to be out?I've been cooped up with kids for 3 weeks now, almost 24/7, with the exception of 3 grocery store trips, and two quick trips to school to pick up school work.
3/27/2020 4:34:35 PM
If i want to take my two sons out golfing and it is just us there is no problem with that. Same as tennis or any other individual sport/exercise.
3/27/2020 4:36:48 PM
Yeah but I am willing to bet that a large majority of people golfing will be doing so with people they don't live with.

Lots of exempt businesses/industries. Some more obvious than others. For example, my farm (hi rwoody!) is exempt. Because, well, it’s a farm...For food and stuff. That’s obvious. But all the businesses that support farming are exempt as well. Fertilizer companies, chemical companies, farm supply stores, packaging suppliers, etc, etc. What I’m seeing from the NCDA is that basically the entire green industry is also being considered “essential”. So landscapers, garden centers, etc can remain open. Tbh, other than this announcement perhaps being a wake up call for some people...I don’t see this changing much, really.

^^We can't let a few deaths crash the economy. This is the greatest country on Earth. It wasn't made to be shut down. We gotta get back to business now. This whole virus thing will blow over soon. Like a miracle.
3/28/2020 7:26:47 AM
^4 but our deaths on March 26ths were only a quarter of the predicted based on his model. So are we to assume distancing has course corrected us to some degree or that his model was inaccurate?
3/28/2020 7:29:32 AM
The estimate for March 26 was 800 total deaths thus far, the real number was something like 1300, if anything the estimate might be conservative.[Edited on March 28, 2020 at 9:40 AM. Reason : It’s not death toll on that day]

what businesses are actually closed by this?
3/28/2020 1:44:20 PM
non-food retail stores. the entertainment industry, and salons are examples of things closed by this.
3/28/2020 2:34:26 PM
^But they can just do delivery to get around it. Pretty comical that breweries and bottle shops are "essential" and can just do curbside pick up or delivery, haha.

3/28/2020 3:32:43 PM
Yeah I was struggling to come up with a store/business that was not currently closed but would now be closed after the stay at home order. Vape shops were one of the few I could come up with. Hair salons, nail salons, tattoo shops were already told to close before this, right?

Florida is going to be a disaster zone And the inevitable finger pointing up to NYC won’t be the real reason why.
3/28/2020 5:25:20 PM
Florida is a disaster of a state anyway, but yeah. Pretty hypocritical of them to welcome spring breakers and their wallets just a few weeks ago, but now they've decided they've had enough snow birds who are running fro their lives in the Northeast from COVID-19
3/28/2020 5:30:28 PM
Florida is fucked
3/28/2020 5:35:05 PM
Interestingly enough the link shared just above by UJustWait84 says that Florida will never hit a hospital bed or ICU shortage, in spite of their best efforts. Meanwhile it shows we will be severely lacking beds in NC. Pwnt.
