Fuck those shady ass Miller's, we dodged a bullet there. We got under the sheets with keatts and he makes us feel so good!
3/4/2018 11:26:20 AM
Love Keatts.
3/4/2018 3:51:56 PM
He's really too perfect for us. He understands the school's position, its fanbase and what needs to be done. A lot of coaches will say they rooted for a school growing up, or they understand it, and 99% of the time it's lies. This one wasn't. And to top it off, he won't put up with any of the Droopy Dog bullshit we've adopted. He accepts us for who we are, but wants to grab our hand and uplift us further. In this case, the "NC State Shit" finale would be him leaving for another job prematurely.
3/4/2018 11:48:21 PM
you mean to tell me that the Maryland job wasn’t Randy Edsall’s dream job growing up?

^^^ Louisville perhaps. Cant imagine they are very happy with interim Padgett.[Edited on March 5, 2018 at 8:56 AM. Reason : a]

Just watched "Wolfpack Hustle - Chapter 14" and saw Keatts call himself out on a mistake he made in practice then run (jog) a suicide as penance. Love this guy. If you've watched those Wolfpack Hustle episodes it's evident he is a very genuine person. Truly incredible what he's been able to accomplish when you look at the incoming situation and the roster. It's an exciting time to be a Pack bball fan.Oh, and Louisville fans all over the interwebs are already declaring that he'll be their coach next year.
3/5/2018 9:35:51 AM
I've only watched a couple Wolfpack Hustle episodes so far but it's a great way to grow with the team aside from just watching the games.
3/5/2018 9:58:35 AM
^^ I'm not necessarily worried about Keatts leaving for the FBI/NCAA trainwreck that is Louisville, but I have thought about his success giving him a lot of opportunities. I hope we open the checkbook when the time comes.
3/5/2018 10:47:58 AM
Once you take out all Louisville's vacated things, they're similar to us. If only you could make people forget they've seen Louisville win a lot recently..
3/5/2018 12:00:02 PM
Dont know if Keatts cares much about program history but Louisville has some deep pockets. Im sure they can throw an offer at him that he may not be able to refuse. And with his past experience on the staff I know he would be a priority candidate for them.
3/5/2018 2:07:51 PM
Obviously I'm biased but if you're winning games here I don't know why State wouldn't have the money/resources/facilities to be a destination job. I mean yeah our fans can be brutal if you're losing but Herb would have been fired at Louisville instead of leaving of his own volition.
3/5/2018 2:16:34 PM
State doesn't have destination level money. It's why we have UNCW's coach instead of somebody really looking for that payday
3/5/2018 2:27:02 PM
Talking heads point to the "tough neighborhood" as the biggest drawback for NCSU as a coaching gig. Keatts already knows and has proven that he can compete with them so with the exception of an absurd amount of money, I don't see any upside to the Louisville gig (I'm admittedly biased.)We've talked about this for years too: Coach K and Roy aren't going to coach forever, likely retiring around the same time. A young coach building a program right now could position himself to be the new king of Tobacco Road. Sure there's a ton of moving parts and yes Duke and UNC will attract the best of the best coaching talent when their positions open up, but the "tough neighborhood" isn't guaranteed to stay quite as tough in the near future. Lest we not forget those Golden years with Matt Doherty at the helm. Also, NCSU technically has the same number of National Championships as Louisville with their most recent one technically being 1986.
3/5/2018 2:35:10 PM
Wendell Murphy would pony up if need be
3/5/2018 2:43:22 PM
This is the most utterly depressing conversation that could possibly be going on right now...
3/5/2018 2:44:15 PM
Seriously.
3/5/2018 3:26:47 PM
Nah, it should be celebrated that our new coach has done such a tremendous job in his FIRST year that he's already garnering interest from other schools. We have to shed this "we can't have nice things" mentality and should embrace the fact that Yow made an excellent hire and we CAN compete with top programs. With continued success we will absolutely do everything within reason to keep our up-and-coming talented coach and we're going to be fine.
3/5/2018 3:55:17 PM
Remember the days some were afraid that Gottfried was going to be "poached"?
3/5/2018 4:23:04 PM
UCLA is gonna come after Gott!!
3/5/2018 4:49:55 PM
Never for one second thought gottfried was a long term solution. Not once.
3/5/2018 8:22:02 PM
Gott to UCLA was motivated reasoning
3/5/2018 8:49:48 PM
Louisville plays our schedule and is in a tough neighborhood with non conference teams. imo that makes louisville a tougher neoghborhood with kentucky cincy xavier and indiana right down the road.
3/5/2018 9:00:34 PM
I think it's unlikely he goes there to be "the guy after Pitino" but if they came calling with 7 million a year or something insane like that, things could changeThere's still a few other concerns, of course. I'll do the report at the end of the year about possible concerns moving forward - he's mostly held true to form of the things I pointed out prior to the hiring, both good and bad, but he's just a little bit further along after year one than expected.
3/5/2018 9:20:55 PM
we're gonna win it all and you fuckes are gonna be speculating about his next stop rather than enjoying our winning
3/5/2018 9:54:59 PM
if we win it all debbie will bust out the paul hewitt contract in which case we should be fine
3/6/2018 12:50:07 AM
Keatts isn't leaving for UL. UL is still subject to be hammered by the NCAA, same goes for Zona, pending all of these investigations. I don't see him leaving for anything less than a top 10 job and I doubt he wants to jump anywhere until all of this FBI mess gets sorted out. Obviously if we get swept up into it further and get sanctions, that could cloud things up a bit. I think he wants to be in the ACC, he's from VA and I think he enjoys the NC/VA area, and I think he knows what he can build here(resources, recruiting, rabid fan base). You guys want to really be Debbie Downers? Imagine a scenario where Keatts has us humming over the next 2-3 years. Gets his guys in, starts bringing in regular top 25 recruiting classes, perennial top 25 team, finishing regularly in the top 3-4 in the ACC, and pushing for higher seeds in the tournament... Then let's say in 3 years, Roy Williams hangs it up and UNC is searching for a new coach... Yeah, think about THAT scenario for a bit. You think UNC is hiring Wes Miller or trying to poach someone like Kevin Keatts?
3/6/2018 9:32:03 AM
Despite the "not our rival", I don't think UNC fans would accept hiring NC States coach
3/6/2018 9:37:37 AM
3/6/2018 10:09:17 AM
I like how you start off with the definitive "wrong" and then the rest of your post is a big shrug.State isn't one of the top revenue generators. Therefore State isn't going to have one of the top pocket books.[Edited on March 6, 2018 at 11:33 AM. Reason : E]
3/6/2018 11:07:42 AM
I would hope that we would be able to offer Keatts enough to keep him here long-term should he do well enough...And I don't think UNC would come calling no matter what.
3/6/2018 11:08:42 AM
^^ whats a shrug? I think you are a wrong. and you just said it again
3/6/2018 11:20:42 AM
If Keatts leaves, we should go back and see who's left from the 2006 wishlist. Lmao.
3/6/2018 11:31:00 AM
Your first post said wrong and then the next sentence said I don't knowBut nobody in here was discussing hypothetical revenue generation if we win 3 national championships in the next 5 years. the question was asked if Louisville comes calling this year could we fight them off from a money standpoint. I'm fairly certain the answer is no.
3/6/2018 11:31:57 AM
i hear you on that. but was louisville really bad enough,,, with all the distractions. to kick current coach out that fast?
3/6/2018 11:33:40 AM
I don't think Padgett was ever meant to be a permanent solution, so not really "kicking" him out in that wayBtw I don't think Keatts is leaving and certainly not this year for Louisville. Just an interesting discussion. [Edited on March 6, 2018 at 11:36 AM. Reason : W]

Billy Gillispie is available, for those who were big on him 12 years ago.[Edited on March 6, 2018 at 11:37 AM. Reason : k]
3/6/2018 11:36:50 AM
^^ yea i took that hypothetical too far. I'll end with my general thoughts.I think Keatts needs us as much as we need him. I'd fathom that he prefers the non-blueblood school to be able to fully scratch his competitive "I'm a winner" itch (I can win without leaning on an already established powerhouse). But at the same time a school capable enough (ACC conference, facilities, recruiting location) to do damage. That's us. I believe in this as long term no matter how much success he hopefully brings.
3/6/2018 11:41:51 AM
Also, this board's ability to only be correct about 20 percent of the time makes it pretty fun (and sad) to go back a decade or less and read opinions and advice about coaches. That being said, it's not surprising at all we've got users discussing Keatts' future plans as a detriment to NC State, and the university/etc's bankbooks.
3/6/2018 11:42:53 AM
It's a discussion board and we like discussing things, so, yea, def not surprising.
3/6/2018 11:54:13 AM
What does being a "revenue generator" have anything to do with "deep pockets"? Does Baylor or Maryland bring in a ton of sports revenue? How about Oregon? Do you think their pockets aren't deep?We have plenty of wealthy boosters that would support keeping Keatts around. Hell there were a ton of reports/rumors when we hired Keatts that Murphy was a huge fan and was "all-in" on Yow hiring him.
3/6/2018 11:58:15 AM
