45kwh battery means it’s effectively useless for anything except maybe a 3 lap race or a city commuter. It will however make it to the next stop light faster than a lot of cars.

Give it a chance guys, it is only experimental right now.

As much as I don't like it either, electrification is the future

Do tell. Base models of those cars are less right?

the base model is 382hp/325ft-lbs and the p100d goes up to 762hp/730ft-lbs, with more than double the battery size so presumably more than double the range.

^^haha, what I mean is all these automakers coming in 5-6 years behind Tesla with numbers that are inferior. And I don't even mean 0-60. Talking almost entirely about range and charging time.

Just bizarre. I mean look at the new Honda EV hatchback (not being sold in the US, for now). $45k and it's even worse than a Chevy Bolt. Would Honda ever introduce a Civic that's worse than a Chevy Cobalt? haha.

right, and this thing is 710hp/848ft-lbs, so your statement is inaccurate on a number of levels.

and a few more if you consider the X you named:

Quote :
"The two motors that move the Model X are rated at 259 horsepower (193 kilowatts)Performance versions step up to a 503-hp"

p100d steps up to "762 horsepower and 791 lb-ft of torque"

the model X p100d has the same drivetrain as the model S p100d with specs referenced here because tesla's site doesn't list it anymore
https://carbuzz.com/cars/tesla/model-x-p100d

the model X performance has a 259hp motor up front and 503 hp motor in the rear
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tesla_Model_X#Specifications

for the S

[Edited on June 28, 2019 at 11:12 AM. Reason : looks like the story on model S spec isn't completely consistent]

Ok but what % of Model S' produced are the P100d with Ludicrous Mode variety? Pretty damn small number I'm sure. Same for the Model X P100 Performance Editions too

i don't know where to find those numbers. they're all software unlocks people can add at any time from the dealer with a p90d base. the point was, if you're trying to entice the market, you have to be ahead of the incumbent somewhere. bmw is precisely ahead nowhere, save maybe styling, which is subjective especially given tesla is seen as a status symbol these days

^^ to be fair, the doors of any car on fire are likely not to be opened from the outside as THE CAR IS ON FIRE.

I'm personally not a fan of the door handles though.

29 seconds faster around the ring with a couple months worth of mods to the platform. kind of invalidates half the taycan value prop. interesting they're going to take this to production

^ If the stock 340 hp Supra can do 12.3 sec (C&D), why is this 500 hp Supra still running just 12.1 sec? It should be doing 11.8 sec, or at least half a sec faster than stock.

the ecu on the supra has required most tuners to disable traction control completely when adding power, otherwise the motor goes into limp mode.

Supra on DR's, ~430whp (I don't know why they put ~. Are they just guessing?)

The video:

Supra
60' - 1.850
1/8 - 7.776 @ 91.76 mph
1/4 - 12.071 @ 114.72

Model 3
60' - 1.809
1/8 - 7.49 @ 92.84 mph
1/4 - 11.787 @ 112.38 mph

Something's weird with that Supra. My lighter but old-school shifting 400whp (dyno dynamics) on one account trapped 91.64 mph in the 1/8th and 116.71 mph in the 1/4.

After official software update Model 3 hits 60 mph in 2.9 sec.

That's nucking futs!!!

That's $300,000 supercar level acceleration, well, at least to 60 mph.

Mind-warping!

It’s kinda growing on me now

But I don’t see how a rigid shell vehicle is going to pass regulators... this would obliterate other vehicles on minor accidents, it would be deadly to other drivers? Can’t be legal?
