I, too, suck at flying the jets. I can't hit a damn thing with the machine gun.
11/2/2011 3:24:53 PM
The explosions need to be a lot bigger in this game. One of the most disappointing things about the game is how lame the helicopter/jet crashes are.
11/2/2011 3:54:00 PM
I think that'd cause people to kamikaze more with the jets
11/2/2011 5:37:59 PM
Almost got my new computer built. I am so excited about being able to fly the A-10 in Rush mode. And after the dozens of videos I've watched, I still have yet to see a single bomb being dropped.
11/2/2011 6:09:40 PM
http://www.bit-tech.net/news/gaming/2011/11/02/ea-denies-origin-spies-on-battlefield-3-pc/1?tcs=nlGod, people are set on killing Origin and making Steam the only real digital distributor/social community a monopoly. Everything they have claimed EA denies and even changed the EULA of Origin.
11/2/2011 6:40:21 PM
^^ haven't seen any bombs yet, but i think you can unlock laser designated guided bombs / missiles, but only if someone on the ground is designating a target for you
11/2/2011 6:50:48 PM
Yeah, I've seen the Maverick AGM's and the rocket pods. I guess it would be cool (and virtually impossible in public play) to be able to coordinate a LGB strike, but I'm still hoping for just plain ol' dumb bombs a la BF2.
11/2/2011 8:52:49 PM
So still trying to fly jets, managed to unlock the flares, heat sinking missiles, and some stealth protection stuff. It gets a lot easier with the flares and missiles.
11/2/2011 9:20:46 PM
I am working through the sniper unlocks.. man that remote air vehicle is pretty cool. I killed someone with it some how. Also when i am pinned down as a sniper i just send them out to distract/find the other sniper and I just aim for my vehicle that i park next to them Also the remote repairbot is cool. Killed a couple people with it using the repair tool. haha But seriously the best weapon I have found is the shotgun since there are so many urban maps compared with BF:BC2.
11/3/2011 12:01:38 AM
this game makes me want to join a clan....or at least find a group of 64 people that are coordinated, use voice chat, and follow squad orders.Although I think squad orders seems stupid in coordinated play since they aren't getting instructions from anyone
11/3/2011 10:04:29 AM
Played with a couple friends in a squad last night and it was definitely some fun. I think being in a good squad is what this game is all about.
11/3/2011 10:36:54 AM
Get my 3GB 580 today.
11/3/2011 12:02:33 PM
Acer, check.MSI 580 3GB, check.Another MSI 580 3GB, check.DAT 120 SUSTAINED FPS, pimpin.
11/3/2011 12:33:44 PM
Wait you didn't get a second one yet did you? I'm going to try out performance tonight on one then decide. I'll probably end up getting a second anyway. Hehe. I want to retain the ability to do Nvidia surround.
11/3/2011 12:55:28 PM
Not until Skyrim comes out, but that's the order of epic operations.http://www.hardocp.com/article/2011/06/28/msi_n580gtx_lightning_xe_3gb_sli_video_card_review/11[Edited on November 3, 2011 at 1:40 PM. Reason : -]
11/3/2011 1:22:26 PM
Great review. I love how the 1.5GB 580 just dies from lack of VRAM in Metro 2033 not even in Nvidia surround.
11/3/2011 2:02:13 PM
I just wish the review was updated for BF3, but yeah, clearly it's the way to go for best possible frames for BF3, skyrim, anything, for just a 2x SLI rig.
11/3/2011 2:06:18 PM
wait wait waitare you trying to tell me the most expensive video card is the best
11/3/2011 3:31:33 PM
NOOOOO WAYYY!!!But seriously more along the lines of preferring a 3GB version over a 1.5GB version for the small price jump (under $100) if you're gaming at 1080p or above.
11/3/2011 3:46:12 PM
the one with the more gee bees
11/3/2011 3:47:08 PM
I'm waiting for the 4GB model.
11/3/2011 3:55:25 PM
That would be preferred considering surround set ups take 2GB+ of ram but I think 3GB should be future proof for a while at least.
11/3/2011 4:02:03 PM
so both of my 6950s have 2GBdoes that mean i have 4 geebees or is only one card used
11/3/2011 4:10:02 PM
I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not. No when in SLI/Crossfire it doesn't double your VRAM. Each card is still using it's own memory but in terms of max you're restricted to the total of one card.
11/3/2011 4:11:01 PM
no i am seriousi didnt know if you ended up being able to take advantage of both cards memory
11/3/2011 4:15:44 PM
That would be awesome because then I could have used both 460's to push 2GB at higher resolutions but no in SLI/cross fire each card can still only address it's max memory. Run GPUZ and play Battlefield. You'll see both of your 6950's using a similar amount of memory.
11/3/2011 4:23:43 PM
Is there anything in-game I can enable to show me live FPS?
11/3/2011 4:41:32 PM
Don't think so but FRAPS is free and works great.
11/3/2011 4:42:50 PM
Let's just be clear... yes, both graphics cards memory is being utilized, just not together... exactly like the GPU, just because you have (2) 800Mhz cores doesn't mean it runs at 1600Mhz. You're not doubling the speed, you're halving the workload (which equates to double the performance). In SLI/CF, one card renders either half the frame and the second card renders the second half of the frame, or one card renders one frame, and the second card renders the second frame and they do every other. The easiest way to think about it is you have (2) graphics cards working for you. They don't necessarily work together on the same thing at the same time. The reason being is the PCI-E bus wouldn't support the amount of memory bandwidth required to share 2GB of VRAM between the cards. (this is the dumbed down version)[Edited on November 3, 2011 at 4:58 PM. Reason : .]
11/3/2011 4:45:14 PM
Holy shit Stimwalt this card is fucking amazing. Fully maxed out with full AA and 4x MSAA and it plays great. I just hit 1600mb of VRAM within 15 minutes of playing Operation Firestorm at 1080p. Jeez.
11/3/2011 8:00:50 PM
Anyone want to get on and get some games going?I just sent Air an invite.
11/3/2011 9:26:28 PM
Received your invite. Was already in a squad with three other players on voice. Will definitely join next time.
11/3/2011 11:37:11 PM
Ah ok, no problem.
11/3/2011 11:57:23 PM
Why do I have to unlock the M4A1 and then.. the M4? Weird
11/4/2011 12:04:59 AM
any of you fine gentlemen want to unlock some shit in co-op?http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/soldier/VariousCheeses/stats/252643367/add me
11/4/2011 12:30:32 AM
Damn, 30hours of gameplay. Thats dedication
11/4/2011 12:39:03 AM
or sickness.I've seen people with higher rank though, which is scary
11/4/2011 12:40:35 AM
I saw someone with no actual rank, just an eagle symbol. I'm assuming that is similar to prestiging?
11/4/2011 12:41:52 AM
yeah past that point I think you just get extra starsthe #1 guy on the leaderboards has 133h played.jesus.
11/4/2011 12:45:03 AM
I think that means he is unemployed
11/4/2011 12:52:07 AM
So is anyone else having problems with their kits not saving?
11/4/2011 1:13:08 AM
to see your in game frame rates, hold down ctrl-alt-s.
11/4/2011 1:44:30 AM
11/4/2011 5:24:06 AM
To his point though I was being lazy and didn't feel like fully explaining it. The simple answer was no.
11/4/2011 8:27:37 AM
I knew you would be totally satisfied with the purchase. It's the king of single GPUs, swallows new PC games whole. So are you an MSI fan now too? Oh, have you tried OCing yet? There really isn't much reason to, the factory setup will destroy any game out of the box.Not sure if you have played the BF3 campaign yet, but the scene where you go to the deck of the aircraft carrier, and look out onto the waves, was almost a religious experience with the MSI GTX 580 3GB. I literally repeated that scene 12 times, because I could not believe all the detail I was seeing. Dude, just imagine that scene in 3D running 2x MSI GTX 580 3GB cards in SLI, or being in the cockpit for dogfights.[Edited on November 4, 2011 at 8:55 AM. Reason : -]

So I've been having issues with BF3 stuttering. I assumed it was a type of server lag or crossfire microstutter. I run Dxtory to cap my frames and enable Vsync to eliminate this problem (and tearing) in most games and to ensure no mouse lag is induced. Still didn't fix the problem But last night, I tried disabling Hyperthreading on my CPU, like suggested on some forums, and DAMN it's like a whole different game. I had just assumed the engine wasn't as tight, but damn. It's smooth as silk and it's a completely different experience.I run at 2560x1440 all max except for MSAA and it almost never dips below 60....although some types of smoke causes a dip every now and then. Basically, try disabling HT just in case you didn't know what you are missing (like me).[Edited on November 4, 2011 at 8:58 AM. Reason : ht]
11/4/2011 8:57:04 AM
That's an interesting find. I don't really notice any stuttering due to the CPU and I use all 8 threads often enough but that's sweet if it worked!
11/4/2011 9:19:52 AM
yea, i hope it gets patched or something...would rather not turn it off
11/4/2011 9:26:18 AM
Yeah my Vlookups in excel would take a hit. Haha.
11/4/2011 10:10:36 AM
Dude shut up Blackdog, my comment was addressing everyone saying that only the 1st graphics card memory was used, which just needed clarification for those that didn't know. catalyst asked a legitimate question. I just hate it when people post blanket statements (whether they mean to or not) which without clarification can be misleading. You're the one trolling so stop. And my comment was not aimed at neodata, it was just to clarify in response to catalyst's question... thanks for just spewing out the exact same thing in your own terms... oh the hypocrisy.
