I can't get through the book. The first one I read in a night, the second one maybe in two nights. Mockingjay is fucking boring. I've got maybe 150 pages left but I've been struggling to get through it. It's all just Katniss whining about shit and I just can't get into it. I'll power through it this weekend so I can move on to something better.

This breaking the last movie into 2 parts thing is something I can't stand (almost as much as the endless remake and reboot trend).

^ I generally hate that too, but I really felt like it was necessary for this book. When I was reading it I felt like the whole last few chapters felt super rushed, necessary details were left out to paint the correct pictures, and not nearly enough ink was given to massive events (deaths) that would have been given a lot more time earlier in the series

^^I'll agree with that. I read the books a year or two ago and somebody a few weeks back mentioned a death from the last book that I had totally forgotten about that I probably shouldn't have. It seems fairly logical to split them.

Mockingjay part 1 should have been 45-60 minutes of a 2.5 hour mockinjay movie. Nothing happens in this movie and katniss is basically useless and whines a lot about peeta.

A lot of reviews seem to agree with ussjbroli's cash grab statement. In the very least hopefully this will stop other studios from doing similar chop shops with other sagas but if the money is there I don't know why'd they stop. Peter Jackson is super guilty of this too.

All I can say about this movie is CASH GRAB. I'll bootleg the next one to voice my displeasure with the splitting the final book into 2 movies nonsense.

I didn't read the books and I've been thoroughly unimpressed by the movies. I watched the first one out of curiosity, watched the second for JLaw in spandex. Not gonna bother with the third and fourth.

I didn't think it was THAT bad. definitely stretched for double movies but there were some important parts in the movie that would have felt rushed if they combined it into one movie

All I could think of all move is Jennifer Lawrence about to get down with some butt play and all her other nudes pics and how high Philip Seymour Hoffman might have been shooting each scene.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I think it was, actually, very well paced. With a series like this, you either get a 3 hour movie that everyone thinks is too long, yet feels like a steam engine that is just plowing through material, or you did what they did, break it up into 2 logical segments, and allow a good pacing.

It seems as though the people that read the book are irritated. I didn't, and I wasn't.

I felt the 1st two movies were rushed big time compared to the book, so I liked the slower pace of Mockingjay part 1. They did however omit one of the most important parts from the book. When Katnis was giving her list of demands to Coin, there was one demand that had me confused and stunned that they left out, since it is the primary motivator and build up to the second half of Mockingjay.

This x1000.

Also, I agree with other posters: it felt like there was a definite lack of material due to splitting the source content into two movies. At times I felt like I was watching a soap opera with the long, drawn-out reaction shots.

I liked the District 8 sequence, as well as the rescue mission. Sure the rest was lacking content but those two scenes were enough for me to wait for the next one.

PSH did look a bit glossy-eyed the whole time, and that was distracting. But then again, I'm not sure I would have noticed it if it hadn't been for public knowledge of what he was dealing with.

Book reader here, and definitely not irritated. While I recognize it's a total cash grab, I thought parts of Mockingjay were ill paced in the boo k, especially action sequences, that a 2nd movie could do justice. I also hoped they would delve more in to politics and the mental state of Katniss giving Jennifer Lawrence more chance to shine. I left Part 1 not disappointed at all. I'm hopeful that an event for part 2 will be given more time as well, or at least better portrayed on scene than it did on the page.

I didn't know where the split would be, but as one part happened I hoped they would cut it there--Peeta strangling Katniss and the close up on her blood shot eyes. Ending similar to Catching Fire, yes, but different reasons. I felt Coin's speech addressing D13 over some battle previews ending on Peeta strapped to the table would have been a better part 2 preview than an ending. Hell...show that at the end of the credits.

OH...and a book nitpck. Book readers were, or should be or at least I was, satisfied at this point that they pretty much excluded Avox all together. I didn't get why now they took the time to mention them and why.

Overall, I really enjoyed Part 1. Take my money Hollywood.

Just a little too slow. Would have preferred watching a condensed 3-hour action fest rather than two 2+ hour snoozers. It wasn't bad, but I've telling people to wait til it comes out of the theaters. Wifey fell asleep about 30 minutes in...and she loves the books/movies.

It's been a while since I read the series but I seem to remember more action in Catching Fire than Mockingjay anyway. This one is supposed to be about the politics and the uprising, and not much action until 3/4 of the way through. Katniss' emotions and Peeta's mental state also took up a lot of ink, so I don't feel like Part 1 was lacking compared to the book.

Also, think about how much action there actually was:
- Attack on the hospital
- Lumberjack rebellion
- The damn
- Attack on District 13
- Rescue mission

Not all of them were super interesting parts of the movie, but there were enough of them to still feel like an action movie.

I can understand non-book reader's irritation with the slow pacing of this one, but having read the books, I honestly don't see that there was much of a choice.

The rest of this story has a LOT of major things happen, which were definitely not given proper time/attention in the book, and the only way to get there is to go through everything that happened in this movie. If you had made just 1 movie to cover everything, you would have had to gloss over a few big events the same way the book did. This may not have been everyone's favorite movie, but it's likely to lead to a pretty great payoff

The film was basically two hours of watching Catniss climb on top of piles of rubble and look depressed for her propaganda films.

It was fitting getting to hear a glossy eyed Phillip Seymour Hoffman shout out "Anyone can be replaced!", considering that they're probably looking for his replacement in the next film.

Having an actress as hot as Lawrence in this movie was a terrible mismanagement of resources. Snoozer of a movie.

I think there was an announcement after his death that there was only one scene left to film and they would rewrite it to explain his absence.

saw it last night and although not my fav of the 3 movies so far, i still really enjoyed it.

this was a complete set-up movie for the final installment. in my mind there really was no other way to do it. even if you had a 3-hour movie, there still wouldn't be enough time to jam everything from the last book into the time allotment. there's going to be a ton of action in the last movie just based on what happened in the book.

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I'm GLAD they are doing Mockingjay as two movies. The book feeled too rushed and glossed over a lot of things, especially deaths of several characters. The first movie made me actually appreciate what the Mockingjay book was supposed to be.
