thanks for trying, scott. can't overcome stupid coaching and stupid prima donna players that can't hold onto the ball

The D where you let the guy blow by you and try to block him from behind needs to fucking go[Edited on February 23, 2013 at 5:44 PM. Reason : A good offensive effort today]
2/23/2013 5:44:32 PM
yep heroic effort from Wood today, unfortunately he's the only one who showed up.At least he can go out knowing he had 2 good games against Carolina in his career.

Crazy how efficient he is. Some of his shots recently have been Redick-esque -- running at a full sprint out to the 3 point line, turning and shooting with a guy in his face.If Wood could run off screens like that every play, our best offense would be to just let him shoot every time.[Edited on February 24, 2013 at 12:41 PM. Hope he can keep this up through the tournies. Nice to see him finishing his career at State on a high note.Hope we don't waste having one of the best three point shooters and best rebounders in our program's history on the same team.

Wood now has the 7th highest Offensive Rating in the country at a ludicrous 129.2Now, I'll be the first to say offensive rating is a bit skewed and tends to favor low usage guys who don't handle the ball a lot. But Scott Wood isn't the only player in the country who plays such a role. His Total Shooting % is up to 65.3% which is good for 16th in the country. He's raised his defensive rebound rate to 8.3% this year which isn't TERRIBLE for a SF especially when you consider how few rebounds Howell even leaves available for teammates this year lol.His block rate is a very respectable 2.3% which means almost every 40 shots that goes up one of them is getting sent back by Scottie. His turnover rate of 12% is the 112th lowest in the country, though that is mitigated by the fact that he's an ineffective passer/creator, so I won't give him a ton of praise for that. The guy has gotten a lot of criticism over the years, some of which was deserved as he did tend to no-show in some big games and his defense has been spotty at times. On the other hand he's hit quite a few huge shots this year and his FT accuracy at the end of games has sealed several wins for us.Overall I think he's been underappreciated as a four year starter. His three point numbers speak for themselves and he certainly has helped us space the court. I think if we'd had more depth over the years and he'd played a few less minutes his shooting percentages would be even higher.Hopefully he closes his career out on a hot streak and doesn't pull a "Duke" where their best shooters always go cold in March Madness their senior year for some reason (see: Trajan Langdon, JJ Redick, and several others)
2/24/2013 3:00:41 PM
We really need him to shoot more. For all the bullshit about inefficient "shot creaters" (Leslie) opening up the offense...Wood does that way more. Howell and Warren would get a ton of free lay ups from cuts running an offense designed around Wood.
2/24/2013 3:08:49 PM
yeah a perfect example is the play where Wood was running in/out of Howell's screens where UNC was 100% focused on not letting him get an open look. Howell simply drifted to the basket and no one went with him for an easy layup. That was just beautiful execution and recognition by both Howell and whoever passed it (think it was Brown)
2/24/2013 3:27:07 PM
Wood never makes big shots in big games, and should be coming off the bench only when TJ needs a break. He shouldn't average more than 18 mins a game.
2/25/2013 11:07:50 AM
^^Not related to Wood, but earlier in the game, when Calvin dished out a beautiful pass to Howell in the paint, I knew we were going to win [Edited on February 25, 2013 at 11:17 AM. Reason : ...]

Going to miss him next year
2/27/2013 8:51:02 PM
Me too, not sure if anyone will shoot above 30% from three for us without him on the roster.

So is it pretty much written in stone that Wood has no chance of getting drafted?
3/1/2013 2:23:17 PM
I wouldnt imagine so, just too limited in his game. He may make a team that has a roster spot free for a role player. The thing Wood does is makes one defender have to chase him around the whole game freeing up space for the other guys which could be more valuable in the NBA where a lot of ISO is run. Just my hunch at least[Edited on March 1, 2013 at 3:02 PM. Reason : .]

At this time, I think it's important to note that Scott Wood is easily the best looking guy in the ACC.Very handsome and only getting handsomer. He should go pro for this reason alone.
3/1/2013 3:10:11 PM
Very important. Thanks for noting.
3/1/2013 3:24:47 PM
Any time.
3/1/2013 3:29:41 PM
I still don't understand all the hype around Erick Green. The guy takes half the shots for VT. Of course he's going to score 25+ per game. Hell, any one of our guys could average 20+ if they took 17 FGA and 5 3PA per game.
3/1/2013 3:39:54 PM
^he's 8th in the ACC in FG%. The 7 in front of him are mostly bigger men. So not only does he shoot a lot, he makes a high percentage. (CJL and Howell are 5th and 6th)[Edited on March 1, 2013 at 4:35 PM. Reason : ]
3/1/2013 4:21:25 PM
^^Have you watched VT play? He takes half the shots because he has to -- he's the only one on the team who can create any type of offense.
3/1/2013 4:39:12 PM
3/1/2013 5:49:49 PM
Well, he's not; he's not even the top 2 on the team. I understand bias here because everybody has a man crush on him, but if you had to poll people who's job it is to judge cuteness and what not, I guarantee that Purvis would win that competition by a large margin.
3/1/2013 6:30:17 PM
This kind of talk in ST should at least be reserved to the offseason.
3/1/2013 7:00:54 PM
They went back in time to Indiana circa 1950 and recruited Scott Wood
3/1/2013 7:39:45 PM
All this time I thought LOBO was the cutest on the team and purv was funny looking. In the ACC tho.JMM has to be the best[Edited on March 1, 2013 at 7:47 PM. Reason : If leslie passed to him, wood would score 25ppg]
3/1/2013 7:46:31 PM
This is one of the few times since integration that the honor of ACC Hottie of the Year has gone to a white guy. Just let it happen, guys.
3/2/2013 12:36:26 AM
What are you crazy? Ilian Evtimov was in contention for that crown every year he was here. Hell even ol JJ wasn't too bad if you pass on the haterade. Competition is way to stiff though for wood this year with Larkin, JMM and Purvis all lookin good.[Edited on March 2, 2013 at 12:40 AM. Reason : s]
3/2/2013 12:39:29 AM
Since we are talking about looks......Richard Howell >>>>>> Scott Wood > Lorenzo Brown >>> Rodney Purvis. ^ Engin Atsur was better than Ilian Evtimov. And who can forget Tony Bethel?? [Edited on March 2, 2013 at 12:47 AM. Reason : RH's smile.....]
3/2/2013 12:39:44 AM
Yeah I forgot about RH, cuz I still picture him as the fat ass that he used to be.[Edited on March 2, 2013 at 12:41 AM. Reason : s]
3/2/2013 12:41:22 AM
Purvis is handsome because he likes to smileBut he's not Harrow~
3/2/2013 12:46:59 AM
^^ I know RH got more lean and ripped, but I don't recall him being "fat". Pics or it didn't happen.
3/2/2013 12:49:35 AM
AHA, I did not anticipate all this input. You all make some good points.

can't be serious about Erick Green. His stats are ridiculous. The guy takes 33% of VT's shots and still manages an incredible 58.9 TS% and 120 o-rating.D-Reb is 10.8% which is nearly double a lot of PG's. Ast rate is 29.8 and TO is a ridiculously low 10.6% (48th in the nation which is incredible for a PG).I'd have to agree he deserves POY. With Plumlee and Howell in contention.
