damnit, maybe i should have bought those overpriced tix.

of course, i read this board and it's all glowing adoration --- i just read another board where it's getting trashed at about a 65% clilp.

time to listen now and decide for myself.

Tyler, the Creator is eh...

Earl Sweatshirt, Hodgy Beats, and Domo Genesis should make their own group so I'd stop thinking that OWFGKTA are D12's kids.

New Curren$y EP's decent though

If you don't know about Woods, or you think you don't like Woods, listen to 'Any other day' off the new album, and I'm pretty sure you'll change your tune

^^ Their Radical mixtape isn't bad...but Tyler, the Creator's entire style and presence just smacks of cheap Eminem

Im not entirely crazy about the new Bon Iver. I dunno...Just are not.

Also, I think either way, Ticketmaster can go to hell. And I never considered paying what they wanted for tickets to Bon Iver and especially the Rosebuds. Sorry.

I'm gonna give it a few more tries, but Bon Iver, Bon Iver just seems like more of the same except with Genesis and Supertramp thrown in for good measure. I was psyched to listen to it but I'm rrrreaaaally not diggin' it.

The Rosebuds, in my opinion, are terrible.

Bon Iver's For Emma Forever Ago, was one of the most amazing fucking things I had ever heard the first time I popped it in the CD player and let it spin all the way through.

In a roundabout way: Yes, the Rosebuds are from Raleigh, but fuck them. Fuck them. Fuck the Rosebuds. Fuck them once more, for good measure.

Bon Iver is almost from Raleigh (at least Vernon, anyways). Dude used to work at the Rockford on Glenwood.

BTW, so I don't seem like a 100% negative asshole all the time, I'm still really enjoying the new Akron/Family, Okkervil River, and Jim Guthrie.

I don't get people who are obsessed with The Rosebuds, but I don't get the hate either. They're fun, for whatever that's worth, and I'm totally down for seeing them if I've got nothing better to do and it's cheap-ish.

Do explain.

I mean, I understand that Bon Iver and the Rosebuds are different enough that liking one and not the other can simply be a matter of personal stylistic taste, and that's fine. If you don't like guitar pop, you probably won't like the Rosebuds. However, as guitar pop bands go, they're a very solid band. Why the hate?

really don't think if you knew the Rosebuds IRL you would say "fuck them." I can definitely understand why someone wouldn't like their music but that's a little extreme. Also their new album is fucking good.

(in no way am I trying to make myself sound cool by what I said but they are some pretty fucking great people so to see that makes me feel a little defensive. Also kinda wish mdalston still read tww)

At the risk of sounding like Old Man marko, this Bon Iver album is putting me to sleep.

"Beth/Rest" is really good, though.

The Rosebuds aren't terrible, they're just...meh (Hence, it's fitting they're signed with Meh Records).

And I remember when mdalston used to post, but don't remember any of his posts.

But yes, as people I'm sure they're great, seeing as friends of friends are friends with them...

Is mdalston a Rosebuds fanatic or something?

And, yes, I can attest that a dude was walking around in Schoolkids a few days ago with a girl that he was clearly trying to impress, and when she asked him if he knew who The Rosebuds were, he really loudly said, "YEAH, IAN'S A GOOD FRIEND OF MINE, I PLAYED HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL WITH HIM, WE STILL HANG OUT ALL THE TIME." The whole scene was pretty lulzy.

I like Bon Iver's music a lot and I like some of The Rosebuds' music a lot. Both of their new albums are fucking fantastic IMO and I don't think there's any point at all in comparing who's better, since their music is so different. They're both good and it's cool that they're both from here or semi-from here.

Also, I don't know Kelly, Ivan, or Justin very well at all, but all of them have been super cool to me in the few minutes I've talked to them. They all seem like really great, nice people, so I don't understand why somebody would resort to "fuck them."

No, but the city's not very big. For instance, Raleigh has a similar number of nationally prominent artists as Baltimore, a metro area with nearly double Raleigh's population.

Baltimore's also a shithole.

Look, I'm not trying to get into a pissing match here. All I'm saying is that bragging about knowing somebody in a town the size of Raleigh is laughable.

Not to mention we have a lot of acts that have moved to Baltimore.

People who say we have a small music scene are right to some degree, but it's not entirely true--like vinylbandito said, we have a large scene considering the size, population, and structure of Raleigh.

Raleigh has a decent music scene on its own IMO, but if you extend it to the triangle, there's no way you could argue it's a small music scene. If you extend it to the whole triangle, I'd argue it's one of the better music scenes in the country (like top 10-20)

ranked by Playboy as the #3 music scene in the nation, fwiw.

(believe that included Durham/Chapel Hill)
