goodell is putting on the cooperation face while putting the owners (read, richardson) on attack mode...Makes him look like he is somewhat sympathetic to the players when he concedes a little bit on behalf of the owners.

quite smart actually

does Richardson's stance harm the ability of Carolina to sign decent talent? I mean, he's got every right to be a hardass, but does it make Carolina look unattractive?

Not that it matters if he's hellbent on decimating his roster like last year.

god forbid that some of these fucking babies that get paid big money get upset over labor talks

players and owners aren't the only ones whose employment is directly tied to the NFL. Sure, this is pertaining directly to revenue sharing between the two sides, but more money for the owners will directly impact numerous other people (and yes, I realize the players and the union aren't the only ones impacted by the amount of revenue the players get)

He probably could have been nicer but Big Cat does have a lot of responsibility. Plus, I bet Drew Brees is really a colossal dick.

He has a good point though, what does Peyton Manning know about player safety? Any time someone gets near him he just sits down on the ground instead of taking a hit. The players are just complaining because they don't make as much as baseball players or soccer players in Europe and they are jealous.

It's not what he said, it's how he said it. You can disagree without being a dick about it.

The players are fine with how much they make now.

It's not a strike, it's a lockout.

The answer to this is yes but for several reasons:

1) He will never pay for big talent so it doesn't matter.
2) Carolina's program suffers because he never spends money in the right places.
3) The man can't speak and sounds like he's drunk all the time so people don't take him seriously anyhow.
4) The guy is a complete and utter asshole.
5) Now he's taken more of the national spotlight by broadcasting these fine qualities to the league and the public. This can only further hurt Carolina.

As I said before, the Panthers will not be a successful franchise (several good years back to back and possibly a super bowl win) until Marty Hurney and Jerry Richardson die or are run out of Charlotte.

^^i disagree with a good bit of that

3 NFC title games and a SB appearance in 16 years sounds pretty successful to me

offering to make Julius Peppers the highest paid defensive player in NFL history sounds like he's willing to pay for big talent

and despite some soundclip a former kicker who wasn't even in the room at the time supposedly heard about, the owners all still have his back...this has been blown way out of proportion imo

^^^ You want to run the owner out of town?

Right, because that worked so well last time, when the city ran Shit and Woolbitch out of town and ended up with a team run by the most niggardly owner in professional sports.

I heard from someone today that jay feely leaked these insults to the media even though he wasn't in this meeting and that what was actually said is either being misrepresented or blown out of proportion. of course if this is true I would expect it to be old news by now, and if it isn't true well I guess that's what I get for believing what someone tells me.

Quote :
"Among other things, Richardson became so angry at Sean Morey(notes) after the recently retired player cited a slew of statistics on player safety and average career length that the Panthers’ owner snapped, “You guys made so much [expletive] money – if you played three years in the NFL, you should own your own [expletive] team.”

“It was bad from the start,” said one player who attended the session. “[Richardson] opened the meeting by describing how he was almost annoyed how we would ask for that meeting on their busiest weekend of the year. And I’m thinking, ‘Your team finished 2-14. You shouldn’t be that busy. Why are you worrying about how busy you are during Super Bowl weekend?’ ”"

Quote :
"As one perennial Pro Bowl player told me Monday morning, “When the owners want to get serious, they just need to get him out of the room – because we’ll never get a deal done with him in there. It’s not professional, and it’s not good business.”

He was condescending to Peyton,” said one player who was at the meeting. “He tried to talk about P&L [profit and loss] statements and all these other risks that the owners assume, as if Peyton didn’t know anything. Drew interrupted and said, ‘All we’re doing is just asking you to show us your books. We want to negotiate in good faith.

As Richardson gave his salty reply, witnesses said, other owners and Goodell became visibly uncomfortable, and someone suggested that the two sides take a break. Shortly thereafter, several owners (including the Patriots’ Robert Kraft, the Giants’ John Mara and the Chiefs’ Clark Hunt) apologized to the players who were present, assuring them that they respect the union’s position. Richardson, said one player, apologized to Manning for having lost his cool."

" If your heart were rapidly failing and you suddenly were granted a chance to return to health, would you a) go to work in your pajamas, hand hundred-dollar bills to strangers and dole out random hugs to supermarket clerks, or b) fire your sons and talk smack to two of the NFL’s most popular and accomplished players?"

Bullshit that the payscale for franchised O lineman factors OT's pay into the compensation for centers

I would have rather tagged Johnson

I'd hate to see us lose Deangelo, hopefully we use the transition tag or sign him to a 2-3 year deal. I don't want us to lose such a talented player with nothing in return like Peppers.

And despite Deangelo's age, I think he has plenty left in the tank. It's not like he was a feature back every year, he was either backing up Foster, or sharing carries with Stewart. He's not asked to handle a Michael Turner type workload.

I respect your admiration for Williams, but I'd rather have Stewart + Goodson + 12 million to work with than all three and a lot less money to plug our laundry list of holes on both sides of the ball.

If we lose Williams, I would just like to get a player and/or draft picks in return, since we didn't get that for Peppers

So we get the pick back we traded to them to move up and grab Armanti in exchange for Steve Smith.

If I was Hurney I would be ashamed to show my face in public.

the 33rd pick would be good value for smitty (it sucks that it was our pick in the first place stupid hearney .. would hate to see him go, but it would def free us up to truly rebuild.. as well as trade or draft AJ Green to replace him

Smitty is aging and is going to be wasted until we find a qb.

We'll re-sign Charles Johnson(def didn't deserve top 5 DE money) and DeA will walk.

Would have been nice to get something out of DeA trade-wise, but I'm fine with our platoon of RBs. But someone mentioned us saving 12 million, which is great on paper, but until we get an owner willing to spend money, that's a non-issue. We were the worst team in the NFL last year with the youngest team and MOST cap space, and with Richardson's current attitude, I just don't see his spending changing much.

i REALLY doubt that richardson will continue his miserly ways once the new CBA is signed. i'm sure he's smart enough to figure out that panthers fans are good fans, but a continually shitty product will lead to an empty stadium. charlotte doesn't have the population density of die hards who will go to games regardless of how bad the team is. look for him to make some big signings once things get hammered out in mediation
