reinstall the graphics drivers manually. then theres something in control panel about performance you go to and let it run some tests..then it'll turn it on for youor that's what i had to do anyways
6/2/2009 3:06:15 PM
Yup, need to have a proper graphics card ... those Intel Integrated Graphics cards don't support Aero ... because they suck.
6/2/2009 3:06:17 PM
^Actually, most Intel chipsets support the full Aero experience in Win7. I would HIGHLY advise that you NOT upgrade the drivers from whatever comes preinstalled with Windows 7, unless Aero is off/broken out of the box. I've had to roll-back the Beta Intel video drivers multiple times (Intel drivers SUCK BALLSSSS).
6/2/2009 3:12:28 PM
^Oops, you're correct, I was wrong:http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/cs-023606.htm#8

installing windows 7 in virtualbox on my MBP... we'll see how this goes.
6/2/2009 3:40:06 PM
^^correct. and to further clarify, i just downloaded the latest driver off the nvidia site and installed it and aero worked fine after that. win 7 said it had installed it on its own but gave me like a 2.0 rating on the performance index under graphics. after installing that latest drive it's at 5.0 which is still my lowest but high enough to get aero working[Edited on June 2, 2009 at 3:40 PM. 6/2/2009 3:40:18 PM
so windows 7 will allow all (or most) of my current programs to keep working right? (x64 version of 7)
6/2/2009 3:55:46 PM
yup. i've had much better luck getting some stuff to work on 7 than Vista

I couldn't get 7 to install on Parallels - it kept locking up immediately after the first screen of the installer. This was with the RC version, too.
6/2/2009 6:25:08 PM
odd. thats the version I'm running as well. In fact I actually have both the x86 and x64 installed and working in Parallels 4.0
6/2/2009 6:26:52 PM
I'm pretty sure v4 is the version I bought when I got my MBP. Maybe there's a software update for it or something. I'll have to look into this.Did you boot directly from the ISO file or did you burn to disc first?
6/2/2009 6:29:11 PM
I went directly from the iso.
6/2/2009 6:30:32 PM
i've also been using the RC with Parallels 4 with no problems
6/2/2009 6:56:57 PM
I'm also having trouble with my 3 monitors sometimes. When it does what it does to ask me if I'm sure I want to install something, for instance, it blanks the screen for a second. A couple of times it came back up with only two of my monitors. I've been having to go into the device manager and disable/enable one of the video cards to get it working again. Granted I installed the ATI drivers manually, but only so I can turn off/on crossfire and because crossfire seemed to be enabled by default by windows w/o any way to turn it off. Maybe I was wrong and there was a way, but I couldn't tell.

for those of you that use UltraMon (and subsequently discovered it fails at working in win7)check out DisplayFusion: http://www.binaryfortress.com/displayfusion/it's awesome - i don't think i'm going back to UltraMon this time.
6/4/2009 9:15:29 AM
too bad you can't trial the multi takbar thing.[Edited on June 4, 2009 at 9:26 AM. Reason : my bad, the pro trial is on a separate part of their site.]
6/4/2009 9:23:35 AM
yeah, 30 day free trial of pro... and it's only $18 to buy.that's in the realm of impulse buy for me; i have no problem paying such a reasonable price for something that helps me every day.
6/4/2009 9:31:28 AM
lmfao, it even lets me go into and back out of crossfire mode without crashing. UltraMon pwnt, stay home.

about to install build 7201 x64 on main rig
6/9/2009 9:57:39 AM
6/9/2009 10:27:21 AM
^ nice, thankslooks like i'll be switching from ultramon
6/9/2009 1:28:06 PM
I just found some problems when having multiple instances of Excel open. Can't really explain it but basically it's having a hard time figuring out which task bar which windows should be on.. It's fine for everything else though. Strange
6/9/2009 2:59:51 PM
build 7201 is great. don't know any difference between 7100 yet though
6/9/2009 5:52:57 PM
^4 hell yes. cya ultramon!
6/9/2009 6:36:02 PM
is 7201 a public build?[Edited on June 9, 2009 at 7:19 PM. Reason : ?]
6/9/2009 7:14:59 PM
No. It's an internal build, and it's old.
6/9/2009 7:50:59 PM
Well if that's the case and 7100 is the RC...how many builds a day are there ? I mean it can't possibly be *that* old.
6/9/2009 7:55:55 PM
7201 was June 1st, so yes, it's 8 days old and most likely have a new build for this week already.
6/9/2009 8:12:41 PM
i'd assume they do 1-3 builds a day?my icons chose to disappear on me, but i just right clicked on desktop | view | show desktop icons and they came back.other than that and a couple of weird window resizing bugs (where you resize a window on the bottom and your mouse goes over an icon on the taskbar it does some weird window draws) all is well.
6/9/2009 8:42:57 PM
^I can't talk about any of that. Suffice to say, as I have many times in this thread, you should stick to public releases. Unless you have been given a private build for a specific fix from a Microsoft representative, there is no value in installing these leaked internal builds. You lose all support and update compatibility with non-public builds, and there's a very high chance that it may not be release quality, or may contain viruses, trojans and malware (as there's no way to verify the authenticity of the image).
6/9/2009 9:41:23 PM
6/9/2009 9:57:37 PM
Noen: but then i wouldn't be leet, c'mon now!
6/9/2009 11:58:47 PM
They could have done a better job with the XP mode.
6/9/2009 11:59:33 PM
speaking of resizing, when you move a maximized window, is it really supposed to snap back to the same spot when you release? If so, why even allow the window to unhook?
6/10/2009 8:59:46 AM
if you move it far enough it doesn't snap backnvm.. in the original version i installed it worked how it should (i.e. would kind of "un snap" when you moved it..) but it seems to be snapping back all the time now no matter what.wtf [Edited on June 10, 2009 at 9:05 AM. Reason : asdf]ok now it's working how it should and i've changed nothing. PLZ TO FIX THIS BUG Noen ?[Edited on June 10, 2009 at 9:27 AM. Reason : moar]

Windows 7 build 7227 leakshttp://www.neowin.net/news/main/09/06/10/windows-7-build-7227-leaksI don't care to upgrade to each new build, but it's fun to watch the leaks.
6/10/2009 9:31:08 AM
^^I cannot test this theory with remote desktop
6/10/2009 9:56:09 AM
just grabbed 7229 to put on my home theater pc. hadn't put 7201 on there yet, so may as well try the latest. i don't care

Anybody know why the fuck a process called "system" keeps taking 50% of my resources for no apparent reason? Some days it doesn't do it at all and sometimes it's constant.. like right now. I'm not doing anything out of the ordinary. I can't do anything when it happens..all windows lock up completely..even the mouse locks sometimes.
6/15/2009 11:08:35 AM
install ProcessExplorer and see if it gives you any more information about what started it.
