Vote on who is State's face of the program. ESPN's pick is Rivers.

You all should check out what I posted in the comments section for UNC's.

Are you kidding me? They spelled his name wrong in the title and the poll. I know it's a common mistake, but seriously.

http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=417868

Ranking the ACC's best players position by position

Quarterback

1. Cullen Harper, Clemson
2. Riley Skinner, Wake Forest
3. T.J. Yates, North Carolina
4. Drew Weatherford, Florida State
5. Tyrod Taylor, Virginia Tech

Quick thoughts: Harper went from biding time until super freshman Willy Korn was ready to being a Heisman Trophy candidate. Skinner isn't the most physically impressive player, but he does so many things well and manages the game meticulously. Taylor, when more comfortable within the offense, will be a dynamic star.

Running back

1. C.J. Spiller, Clemson
2. James Davis, Clemson
3. Graig Cooper, Miami
4. Josh Adams, Wake Forest
5. Greg Little, North Carolina (yeah fucking right, Eugene, Baker, and Brown are better than him right now, but Little could eclipse them in the future as he gets more experience)

Quick thoughts: Spiller/Davis is the best tandem in the nation, and Cooper/Javarris James isn't far behind in the ACC. Cooper, Adams and Little are three sophomores primed for big seasons.

Wide receiver

1. Aaron Kelly, Clemson
2. Darrius Heyward-Bey, Maryland
3. Preston Parker, Florida State
4. Hakeem Nicks, North Carolina
5. Brandon Robinson, Boston College
(why no mention of Donald Bowens, who can take over a game as he demonstrated in the UVA game)

Quick thoughts: Heyward-Bey is the best NFL prospect, but he must be more consistent. Kelly must prove he's more than a jump-ball receiver, and Parker -- the most dynamic receiver in the group -- must prove himself again after problems off the field.

Tight end

1. Ryan Purvis, Boston College
2. Anthony Hill, NC State
3. John Phillips, Virginia
4. Ben Wooster, Wake Forest
5. Chris Zellner, Miami

Quick thoughts: A thin group with little experience. Wooster will be very good, and the NC State staff had high hopes for Hill before he missed last season with a knee injury.

Offensive line

1. Andrew Gardner, Georgia Tech
2. Rodney Hudson, Florida State
3. Anthony Castonzo, Boston College
4. Ed Wang, Virginia Tech
5. Eugene Monroe, Virginia

Quick thoughts: Gardner is one of the best in the nation, and Hudson and Castonzo are stars of the future.

Kicker

1. Sam Swank, Wake Forest (well this one isn't surprising)
2. Obi Egekeze, Maryland
3. Mark Buchholz, Clemson
4. Steve Aponavicius, Boston College
5. Nick Maggio, Duke

Quick thoughts: After the All-American Swank and steady Egekeze, it's a crapshoot. Buchholz is way too inconsistent, and Aponavicius and Maggio don't have range.

Defensive line

1. Vance Walker, Georgia Tech
2. Ricky Sapp, Clemson
3. Marvin Austin, North Carolina (no fucking way he's better than Willie right now, just look at his stats in the final 8 games as proof of how good Young is)
4. Everette Brown, Florida State
5. Willie Young, NC State

Quick thoughts: Only a sophomore, Marvin Austin could be the best in the league by the end of the season. Two other young players not yet on the list -- sophomore Allen Bailey of Miami and freshman DeQuan Bowers of Clemson -- could be right there with Austin.

Linebacker

1. Aaron Curry, Wake Forest
2. Clint Sintim, Virginia
3. Brian Toal, Boston College (i guess they are right for being a little hesitant to put him higher b/c of his injury. he could definitely be the ACC's best LB next year though.)
4. Derek Nicholson, Florida State
5. John Copper, Virginia

Quick thoughts: Virginia nearly landed a third player in the top five with Antonio Appleby. Curry is the most complete linebacker of the group, and Toal, if he returns completely healthy, is a classic run stuffer. Player to watch: FSU freshman Nigel Bradham.

Secondary

1. Alphonso Smith, Wake Forest
2. Victor Harris, Virginia Tech
3. Myron Rolle, Florida State
4. Michael Hamlin, Clemson
5. Brandon Ghee, Wake Forest

Quick thoughts: Smith and Harris trail only Vontae Davis and Malcolm Jenkins of the Big Ten in top cornerback duos for a conference. Rolle doesn't get enough credit for erasing cover mistakes in the FSU secondary.

Punter

1. Graham Gano, Florida State
2. Brent Bowden, Virginia Tech
3. Jimmy Maners, Clemson
4. Terrence Brown, North Carolina
5. Travis Baltz, Maryland

Quick thoughts: All are solid; none stand out. Bowden and Gano are the best at dropping punts inside the 20, which is why they're at the top of the list.

Come on now Jaybee, I didn't say anything that was wrong. Willie Young should truly be higher, especially higher than Marvin Austin. When Willie was given a starting position for the final 8 games, he was statistically as good or better than the four DEs that made 1st and 2nd team All-ACC last year.

Quote :
"Over the final eight games of the season, all starts by Young, he totaled 31 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and 13 tackles for a loss. Despite being extremely productive, he didn't even earn honorable mention all-conference honors.

The ACC recognized four defensive ends on the first and second all-conference teams: Virginia's Chris Long, Virginia Tech's Chris Ellis, North Carolina's Hilee Taylor, and Georgia Tech's Darrell Robertson. Over their final eight games, each posted numbers either right above or below Young. Long, the league's Player of the Year, tallied 47 tackles, eight sacks, and 12.5 tackles for a loss. Ellis, the other first-team member, recorded 29 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and 4.5 tackles for a loss. Taylor totaled 31 tackles, six sacks, and 8.5 tackles for a loss, and Robertson finished the final eight games posting 18 tackles, three sacks, and 7.5 tackles for a loss. When you compare the five players over the eight-game stretch, Young finished first in tackles for a loss, tied for second in tackles, and third in sacks."

I wouldn't care if Brown, Baker, and Eugene didn't make the list for best RBs, but they better be higher than Greg Little right now on anyone's list. Also Sean Glennon should be higher than Tyrod Taylor, and VT fans will even tell you that. As for Bowens, he will be our #1 receiving target this year and will have greater production than last year b/c he won't have to be taking a backseat to two players who were more experienced (Blackman and Dunlap). Should State have decent production at the QB position this year, Bowens will have multiple 100 yard receiving and multiple TD performances.

Then I gave props to non-State players where they were due. Swank will be one of the best kickers in the NCAA this year. I see him being a finalist for the Lou Groza award. Toal, should he return to form, might be a finalist for the Butkus award, as well as others. In terms of WRs I think Heyward-Bey might be the better choice for the top spot than Aaron Kelly, but Kelly has a better QB throwing to him, so he might end up having the better numbers.

oh, sorry I took it the wrong way. that's the problem with internet message boards, sometimes you can't tell whether someone is being sarcastic or not.

either way I presented a great case for Young deserving to be higher.

Who are the best incoming freshmen at each position in the league this year? I think Glennon should get the nod over E.J. Manuel and the Parker kid down at Clemson, b/c he just dominated them and all of the other QBs in the UA skills competition. I think DaQuan Bowers easily gets the nod for best DE.

Quarterback
Mike Glennon - NCSU

Defensive End
DaQuan Bowers - CU
