lets get real stupid and tell southpaw not to make anymore threads since he lostlike that really means something
10/14/2006 4:53:19 PM
4^It's not that he missed the FG, it's how bad he missed it, he didn't put any angle on the ball at all.Plus his punting overall this season has been pretty bad and his kickoffs aren't nearly as good as they have been in the past. Two games in a row now he's tried to squib one in and kicked it out of bounds, and he use to put them deep in the endzone and today he kicked one that didn't make it to the 15.He's tons better than Kiker, I agree with that a lot. I just wish we didn't have to rely on him to do EVERYTHING.And yes he's over-hyped, he was a pre-season nominee for the Groza award(best kicker) and so far, at least to me, he hasn't lived up to the expectations. Hopefully he can get it back in gear though.[Edited on October 14, 2006 at 4:55 PM. Reason : .]

or maybe hes talking about the one straight into the wind when it was gusting. get off his dick, he helps this team a lot more than he hurts it.
10/14/2006 5:03:56 PM
I was at the game so I havnt had a chance to see a replay.. but from where I was sitting .. on the missed field goal it looked like it was either a bad hold.. or it skipped on the ground and that threw his timing off forcing him to not hit the ball right.
10/14/2006 5:24:06 PM
I thought we needed to get to at least the 25 yd line to give Deraney a chance. That would be a 42 yard kick. We were also kicking against the wind, so even a 42 yarder could be pretty tough. But yeah, their kicker was ice cold. Props to him.And that fumble was huge. 9 points. That fumble cost us nine points and the game. I really can't complain too much though. We didn't do horribly on anything in particular. We just didn't win. Lets bounce back next week.
10/14/2006 5:31:19 PM
i havent seen replay but my brother said he thought evans was over the line of scrimmage when he threw the int.
10/14/2006 5:32:54 PM
Dunno if anyone else has talked about this, I have been talking about it since mid last season that if we want to be a top caliber team, we have to have GREAT special teams. Deraney is good, better than average, but overall, he isn't a top shelf punter or kicker, and he is looking worn out earlier this year than he did last year. His punting has been pretty sub par, and today his kickoffs definitely didn't help us at all. Field goals, he has always had a pretty good leg, but I have never felt like he was automatic from the ranges that kid today way. This didn't lose us the game, but it definitely amounts to hidden yardage and better punts and kickoffs could have helped make a difference.
10/14/2006 5:37:10 PM
^he's a top shelf fg kicker....and i mean great. hes fallen off a bit on the kickoffs but like i said many times before its probobly because the punting duty is taking away from his abilities. he's not a top shelf punter but he's all we got.[Edited on October 14, 2006 at 6:14 PM. Reason : you]

^3x So they decline the penalty and games still over NICE TRY THO
10/14/2006 6:17:26 PM
The kid has to do everything: punt, kickoff, field goals. He hit a 54ydr at Southern Miss. He's been a little off lately, but I think he'll come through. And reason #99999 why women shouldn't be allowed to attend an athletic event and call into a talk radio show. Girl say "It's the fans fault that we lost, they just weren't there." ORLY. The fans made Andre fumble the ball causing a safety, caused deraney to miss a field goal, the defense to let Wake drive all the way for a TD at the end of the first half, and caused evans to throw the int. I guess it's our fault because we weren't loud while we were on offense too. 3 field goals of 50yds+ for Wake. just wow.[Edited on October 14, 2006 at 6:26 PM. Reason : ]

The FG was long enough, he's always been a good FG kicker if he's lined up for a straight FG, he hasn't had much success from either hash mark. And the kick I was talking about was the 2nd half kick that he kicked and the dude caught it at the 15 and ran it to about the 35 yard line, can't remember if it was their final possession or not but I think it may have been.I agree that Deraney is a GOOD all-around kicker, he does it all pretty well, but he isn't GREAT at any of them. I'm not saying he lost us this game, but he didn't really help us with a stand-out performance or anything.I don't see how we sign all these kickers and can't find one that can out-punt Deraney to at least give his leg a break.Don't get me wrong, I like Deraney, kid has heart and has a touching family story, but I just don't think he's as good physically as people make him out to be. He's not a great punter, he's not good at kicks from the hash's, and his kicks just aren't as strong as they were the last 2 years. Find someone to take over the punts and let Deraney stick to just 3 jobs instead of 4.Any else notice how often we lose because the other team's kicker has a ridiculous game? Nug anyone?
10/14/2006 6:25:33 PM
3^ Can you decline that kind of penalty? I thought it would make the forward pass illegal thus nullifying the INT since it was BEFORE the int? Not sure about that though.
10/14/2006 6:26:37 PM
And does anyone think that the horse collar rule should be implemented in NCAA. That guy tried to kill poor Andre.
10/14/2006 6:56:33 PM
FIRE CHUCK
10/14/2006 7:39:14 PM
prior to the snap-the team moved before the ball moved
10/14/2006 8:15:53 PM
^^^not to mention that Andre was out of bounds when he was dragged down like that
10/14/2006 8:45:28 PM
welp, the honeymoon hadta end sometimeAnd to those who weren't at the game or didn't have a good look, the missed FG was a bad snap and an even worse hold. Nobody in the world could've made that kick with such an awful hold. And it's not my fault for starting this thread & us losing.Let's face it folks: we played a decent game; about 100% better than the 1st three games of the season, and we have reason to believe we can def. win our next two (ACC, at that) contests.Keep backing the Pack guys, we just got the short end of the stick today, we're not an awful team

LACES OUT!
10/14/2006 9:21:16 PM
i guess both the hurricanes and nc state can't get last second victories like that
10/14/2006 9:53:38 PM
In Deraney's defense I agree it looked like a bad job on the hold on his missed kick. It looked like he laid the ball flat at first which might explain the lack of distance on the kick.
10/14/2006 10:25:58 PM
LACES OUT DAN(iel)!Yeah I saw where Daniel had said it was a bad hold, so to Deraney's defense I guess that FG can slide. So now my only quarrel with him is his punting which isn't very good. If only we had a full-time punter.
10/14/2006 11:44:00 PM
It wasn't one single mistake that cost State the game, its the sum-total of then all. There were plenty of places the could have picked up 2+ points (or kept Wake from scoring 2+). The pick of Daniel Evans was the final nail in the coffin.
10/15/2006 12:18:00 AM
After reading some posts I thought it it was worthy of note that Anthony Hill dropped a pass at the 20 yard line that would have given State a first down the play before Deraney's missed FG. He was wide open, the ball hit him right in the hands, and he had enough running room to get inside the 15, maybe closer. But he dropped it. And Deraney missed a FG, and Daniel Evans threw a pick, and Andre Brown fumbled the ball, and the Defence gave up a 57 yard td pass right before halftime... While I agree that Deraney's miss was a costly one (and that his multi-tasking is hurting us), there's plenty of blame to go around.

EVANS HAS MILD CONCUSSION: N.C. State quarterback Daniel Evans suffered a mild concussion during the final drive of the game, his father, Wolfpack radio analyst Johnny Evans, said.Evans said Daniel is "expected to be just fine" but noted that team physicians will monitor his son's progress closely before allowing him to engage in contact. The redshirt freshman apparently suffered the blow about three plays before game's end, when he was tackled hard on the sideline, Johnny Evans said.Evans said his son reported that he didn't remember the last few plays of the game but that Pack offensive coordinator Marc Trestman told Daniel he still made the right calls.

that loss wasn't enough of a reason to make up a lie like that, its not damage control
10/15/2006 10:19:00 AM
I think that if Wake had had a ranking beside their name, we possibly would have beaten them
10/15/2006 10:20:05 AM
evans needs to gain about 20lbs of muscle by next week
10/15/2006 10:20:37 AM
This may have already been talked about on here, but I want to know what the hell was up with tailgating. Was there another spot that everybody else went to? We were back there in the FWD lot, and it was filled with state fair parking. There was literally 4 cars tailgating where we were. The place we were at looked like old indian burial ground or some bullshit like that.
10/15/2006 10:20:46 AM
the missed field goal by deraney but due to a bad hold by evans. he caught it and dropped it and tried to put it back in place but the ball wasn't held properly. as for deraney, he himself is not living up to his ability and potential i think...i just feel like our kicking game and punting game was better last year on his part...maybe he is doing too much kicking? out of bounds kickoffs are unacceptable and there has been more than one this year...this is in no way the reason we lost...i could make a list of 10 reasons/plays/things we did that made us love...we gave wake the game in the last 2 minutes of the first half...
10/15/2006 11:22:52 AM
^^^^and the game would have been on abc at 330. the wake holder pretty much ruined everything for us against clemson.
10/15/2006 11:26:32 AM
Well at least we helped Wake break into the top 25.
