get Eddie Lewis out of there, he is horribleif I was Bruce, I'd bring in Dempsey for Lewis, drop Mastroeni back, and bring on Eddie Johnson for McBride

6/12/2006 12:50:06 PM
Fucking embarrassing performance by the US even though we should not have had to face the Czechs in the 1st round.
6/12/2006 12:53:55 PM
6/12/2006 12:55:23 PM
after that Reyna chance, we should've pushed to keep a little of that momentum going... but no, we sit on it around midfield and that's where we've been starting the offense, with stupid chips to the outside, trying to find McBride with long balls... its unbelievable to me. Convey, Beasley, Donovan... all those guys should be going at people and see how good this Czech defense actually is. They haven't had to do anything but stand at the 18 and clear every horrible long ball attempt the US throws at them
6/12/2006 12:57:31 PM
^ It certainly can't hurt to be aggressive now. Even if it leads to a Czech goal, losing by 2 in the opening game is like a nail in the coffin.
6/12/2006 12:59:48 PM
the Czech defense is doing the right thing by clearing the ball quicklyour guys don't do that, they spend too much time attacking man to manthis keeps the momentum out of our hands, makes our defenders and midfielders tired, and limits our shots on goal
6/12/2006 1:00:49 PM
ok fucking lewis is still insomeone explain that to me
6/12/2006 1:01:34 PM

6/12/2006 1:34:12 PM
6/12/2006 1:35:33 PM
Well I guess they are gonna need a better showing against Ghana. So much for bringing the best team to a World Cup ever. They need to get atleast one goal to lower the GD
6/12/2006 1:36:33 PM
Go Ghana?
6/12/2006 1:39:10 PM
haha
6/12/2006 1:42:24 PM
meh honestly i didnt see this being our best WC team ever. i thought our last one was a better roster. however i didnt think we had a big drop off on the roster. definitely disappointed
6/12/2006 1:44:41 PM
that was painful...i'm still confident though
6/12/2006 1:50:03 PM
fucking patheticjust pack it up now fellasyou look like shitjust come on home. you have no business being there if you're going to play like that
6/12/2006 1:50:55 PM
:/all I could find this on was univisionand I had to listen to spanish the entire time and the annoying ass announcer saying GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!
6/12/2006 1:51:59 PM
6/12/2006 1:53:01 PM
technically the screen graphic was like?Gol?
6/12/2006 1:53:49 PM
The 9 and 10 year olds I coach would have put more effort in that game. I think any one of them could have done a better job than Eddie Lewis.
6/12/2006 2:06:35 PM
ouch. this hurts pretty bad. a 3-0 loss is going to hurt if we get a win and a draw in the remaining two games. since 1990, the US has never done better than 1-1-1 in group play, and the times we have advanced were due to goal differentials. so either we have to beat up on ghana or beat both ghana and italy. probably won't happen, which sucks, because losses like this kill any momentum soccer has at becoming more popular amongst american fansalso, eddie johnson needs to start. mcbride is old and would better serve coming off the bench with fresh legs in the later minutes of a long match. i also find it odd that kasey keller has such a bad track record in the world cup even though he's consistently been the best keeper for the US.[Edited on June 12, 2006 at 2:19 PM. 6/12/2006 2:08:37 PM
i think this was a coaching failurethe players played hard, but the coach didn't plan around how physical the Czechs are
6/12/2006 2:10:55 PM
we (usa) did not play hard. down 2-0 and we still want to play our passive game, extensively playing the ball back to keller. we also tried to go over the top way too many times. play it on the ground and go at them but we didnt do that. this game was like when youre parents are like "i'm not mad, i'm just disappointed."
6/12/2006 2:15:01 PM
FIRE HERB
6/12/2006 2:15:48 PM
the entire population of the united states is obsessed with socceri dont know how we couldve lost
6/12/2006 2:17:07 PM
agreed we played WAY too passive. 2-0 with 20 mins left and we're still passing the ball around midfield? or passing the ball from the top of the arch. >.<
6/12/2006 2:17:49 PM
Tough luck USA , but let's go Itaaaaly!
6/12/2006 2:18:21 PM
Italy got this shit on lock, word to Mr. Smyth
6/12/2006 2:22:05 PM
best for the US in terms of points would be a draw for ghana and italy. however, i do NOT want to see ghana beat italy because then it will be DO OR DIE for the US and italy on saturday...and that would be horrible.
6/12/2006 2:24:47 PM
Whoever said this is a coaching failure because we played hard is an idiot. This was a lazy and pathetic effort from guys who looked like they didn't even want to be there. But I don't think it was all their fault, Bruce should get some blame tooO'brien hasn't been healthy for a long time, but he's one of the 2 second half subs. how can you expect somebody that hasn't played consistent minutes to play a full 45? I can see him from like 75th minute onward, but 45 minutes from him is asking a little too much. And I know it didn't make much of a difference because it was so late, but Wolff? Seriously, I hate Ching, but I'd rather see him out there than Wolff...And as for Eddie Lewis, he cannot be our left back anymore, he simply can't defend, and honestly I don't think his possibility of attacking from the back once in a while is worth the risk to play him at defense. If you're set on playing him, just play 3 in the back because that's basically what we have with him... it's just the difference today is he had defensive assignments that he didn't do a good job of handling. It doesn't look good as far as advancing goes, and I'm really not thinking about that. I just don't want them to get even more embarrassed than they already have been. Eddie Johnson better be in the starting lineup against Italy, and I'd like to see Dempsey get some pt
6/12/2006 2:36:08 PM
well, i'm glad nobody said this was a coaching failure BECAUSE they played hardthat person would be an idioti did however say that it was a coaching failure because we focused on man to man defense, instead of clearing the ball out of the backfield. had the ball been cleared much sooner by the defenders, the midfielders would've been able to deliver the ball to Reyna & Donovan much more frequently. that would have created more shots on goal, and we would have better momentum. that is where the coaching failure was.i also said that our guys did play hard with the gameplan they were given.
6/12/2006 2:41:56 PM
okay, let's argue about something stupid. I meant.. whoever thinks this is the coach's fault and not the players' fault (because they played hard) is an idiot.man-to-man? If that was the gameplan as you claim it was, then it was definitely poor execution. Where was the man-to-man marking on the first goal? He was wide open in receiving the ball and crossing it... and then Koller was left with alot of room in the middle on the header. Throughout the entire first half, our marking was horrible. Koller had plenty of space in their entire attacking third... and even all the way back to midfield. It seemed like every Czech player had way too much time for their first touch.
6/12/2006 2:46:09 PM
i do blame the players for being less athletic and not being able to keep up, but this is something that can be adjusted for by the coach, which wasn't done even at halftimeto say "they didn't play hard" (since we're calling names now), is short-sighted, sophomoric, and simply parroting what the announcers shoved down your throat[Edited on June 12, 2006 at 2:52 PM. Reason : name calling]
6/12/2006 2:49:19 PM
We were awful. What a pitiful performance.I figured that we wouldn't make it out of the group stage, but I didn't think that we'd regress to looking like a laughingstock again. Let's hope for a miracle when Italy rolls around on Saturday.
6/12/2006 2:55:10 PM
6/12/2006 2:55:46 PM
