there are two plots there overlayed.. one is with vanos.. one is without vanos.. the difference you see can then be attributed to vanos.
10/9/2006 12:59:21 PM
back to back? I'm telling you there is a differences where there should be none, vanos or not.
10/9/2006 1:31:40 PM
what do you mean? yeh back to back. thats a perfect example of vanos. vanos advances the timing right off idle up to 5500rpm. you can see the change (increase) in torque across that exact range.
10/9/2006 1:42:30 PM
i know, but even after 5500 there is a notcible difference.
10/9/2006 1:47:17 PM
he probably lifted at different times. he didnt like to rev 'er out too much it seemed. The slope of the early fall off is the same as the later lift's fall off.. *shrug*
10/9/2006 2:11:34 PM
it may be just slight lift off as he was nearing red line. when Evan did mine, he asked to what rpm i want to go. i just said 6500-7000k. thats nice power you are making, especially if you are not chipped, fan delete and and all that crap

I HAVE AN M3!!
10/18/2006 10:09:43 AM
Maybe you were getting at this, but It advances cam position and when the valve opens, not ignition timing. When my vanos was stuck i lost a bunch of tq but the hp was still there; it's not always engaged.Did you just unplug the vanos in that dyno?[Edited on October 18, 2006 at 12:18 PM. Reason : asdf]

I WANT TO BE SPONCERED BY JAGER!!!!!!!!
10/18/2006 12:37:27 PM
you should be "sponcered" by the special olympics
10/18/2006 12:41:40 PM
yeah... can't spell... ohh well...
10/18/2006 12:55:40 PM
Installed short shifter. quite a pain, but its pretty coo now. I used a modified Z3 shifter (understeer budget) w/ UUC DSSR and ERK. All real nice pieces and work together to make a relatively cheap ssk with pretty minimal notchiness and effort. no more rowing the boat, woot.wups i sort of actually meant to post this here. so its here and also in 'what work did you do today?'.I WANT TO TELL THE WORRRRRRRRRRRRRLLD!!
10/18/2006 7:49:12 PM
not many sponsored cars have factory seats in them

i installed an oil cooler, while re-breaking a filter housing and lacerating my arm
10/18/2006 8:29:58 PM
i want a z3 or '95 steering rack
10/19/2006 2:32:32 AM
not noticable, stop reading the bmw forums
10/19/2006 3:44:21 AM
drove '95 and it is very noticable. '96 almost feels mushy
10/19/2006 9:29:21 AM
we all know 95 > *hell, they'll even outrun an e46m3
10/19/2006 10:46:02 AM
I have a secret. I want a e46m3, dont tell anyone.
10/19/2006 11:14:59 AM
prices should come down a bit with the release of the e92. i think I might hold out for a 335, when they come down in price.

So is there a rack actually worth getting for an e36? I think the steering's too slow for my taste...Ahmet
10/19/2006 1:39:03 PM
10/19/2006 1:52:25 PM
^^what's the story with your cooling system, any update?
10/19/2006 1:59:05 PM
its not so much the turns ratio as the fact that the '96+is a progressive rate and the other racks are linear so theyre touchier off center.
10/19/2006 3:14:29 PM
I go back and forth on how much it bothers me to have a slow steering ratio rack. On the highway it's really nice, and doesn't really bother me on track either but more around town at lower speeds, etc. I changed the cap/reservoir this morning, has been fine since. I will keep an eye on the fluid level/pressure. There's significantly less pressure in the hoses now, so it may have been a defective cap...Ahmet
10/19/2006 3:24:16 PM
^^'95 is not linear. it is progressive. z3 is linear.
10/19/2006 3:48:36 PM
oic.well its not like one wouldnt go for the gold (z3) anyway.I also wonder.. for daily and autox its def a little slow. but on the highway and on the track it seems just right to me. w/ my semi tight suspension its darnright responsive at high speed. it was much easier to be smooth w/ a sloppy suspension
10/19/2006 4:32:11 PM
you can all bear my children
10/19/2006 5:03:35 PM
Funny how those cooling system things go; always with the cap. It seems like step #1 is always replace the cap and everybody goes...yeah right...why would it be the cap. <shrugs> Hope it stays fixed.
10/19/2006 11:18:17 PM
anyone have an e30 oil pan handy?
10/19/2006 11:24:12 PM
finally got the spacers. coilovers fit perfectly now. stock shocks were completely shot.if anyone needs stock springs let me know. i dont know what they go for ..$100 or something like that?
10/20/2006 12:36:44 AM
excess coolant pressure can mean blown hg too!
10/20/2006 2:45:16 AM
how much should a 100k mile 1995 m3 sell for?i'm seeing alot of people asking 15k.... seems like alot for an 11-12 year old car.
10/20/2006 6:37:39 AM
^thats too much. $10-12k
10/20/2006 9:16:04 AM
^ yeah that seems more reasonable.
10/20/2006 9:18:10 AM
I paid 12.5 for a local 98 m3/4, and I don't really think that was a fantastic deal. Just trying to give a point of reference.
10/20/2006 10:33:38 AM
^you literally snatched that car from me. i was going to call the guy and pick it up
10/20/2006 11:18:19 AM
Are these just listed on autotrader, or through bimmer forums?Seems like most of the M3's listed on forums are overpriced
10/20/2006 11:30:47 AM
^^ sorry dude I bought mine off of an autotrader ad.
10/20/2006 11:31:45 AM
i found my car at a rallycross
10/20/2006 12:18:56 PM
^^it's cool. i found that the best deals are usually from small rural dealerships, which have a hard time finding a customer willing to take on a used foreign car. i rarely look local. raleigh is expensive. ohio, ma, conn and northern VA cars tend to be a lot cheaper.... pick up if you find a low mileage one that hasnt seen a lot of salty winters.i got '96 with 52k on it for $13.5k on ebay. it was a ny/mass car, one owner. went and picked it up in nyc.
