It says that after it can't get a new WU after several tries. Try to restart the client.

okay just a fun aside note... for those not keeping up outside the team

http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/showthread.php?t=119477&page=1

OC-AMD is pimping the F@H game, he has over 950ghz of power and is balling.

http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/individual_list.php?s=

he is the number one user after anonymous... you can also check out a few other sites that have more info on him.

it is good to see the team moving up even before school starts back up this could get good.

good strategy for all the sys-admins...
Quote :
"I don't run F@H as a service because it does cause issues when being run in a corporate enviroment. Even being run as an idle process it causes performance issues with certain apps. I set it to run as a scheduled task... when the PC goes idle for 16 minutes... it starts to fold, when the PC ceases to be idle, it stops. The task runs as the local administrator. In 1.5 years of folding on over 300 PC's I've only had one issue where a core would refuse to stop after the task/client did and the person called the helpdesk wondering what FAHcore_78.exe was and why it was using 100% of her CPU... In this case I just removed F@H all together."

Making my ascent..
As of posting (and for the time being), I am the top producer on the team (per 24 hr period).
At current figures, I'll be number 1 on the team in less than a year, but I think I'll be passed before then. CarZin is coming up fast...

Version 5.00 final is out now.
http://forum.folding-community.org/viewtopic.php?t=8939
I'm not sure that 5.0 recognizes -forceSSE anymore. Atleast I could not get it to launch with that flag.

Great work by all. We are over 6,000 pts/day as a team. Here is the scoop on -forceSSE. It is not supported and is not necessary anymore.
Quote :
"Yes, support for -forcesse has been removed. SSE is (and has been for a while now) the default SIMD instruction set on all processors which support it when using Core_78. If you want to provide for SIMD recovery after a crash, use
-forceasm."

If you are running Windows 98, then do not install F@H v5.00! Win98 is not supported in the new version. I found out the hard way.

I wrote my own MSI installation package over the summer that encases version 4. The installer puts the console in a directory, installs it as a system service, and automatically configures the config file with my information. I'm gonna update my installer with version 5 as soon someone can tell me what differences it has over version 4 (if any at all).

Quote :
"RECENT CHANGES (Client):

5.00:
- Collection server support. If a client finishes a work unit from
a Work server with this feature enabled, then if 2 upload
attempts to that server fail, the client will return to the
work unit to a Collection server. Pending credit will be given
for the unit, becoming final when the Work server comes back up
and verifies what the Collection server has received. All work
servers will eventually be associated with a Collection server,
and many already are.
- Configuration option to allow downloads and uploads greater
than 5 MB in size, which some new projects will require due
to the size of what they are simulating.
- G@H configuration option reworded to be "No deadline" option.
- Print executable name and launch directory to log.
- Fix for bug where queue slot could get stuck "Fetching"
- MyFolding links updated.
- -forceSSE flag removed, since even with older clients, the flag
has become meaningless because recent Core_78's give SSE priority
over 3DNow automatically.
- Configuration option to pause work when the computer is using
battery power (for laptops).
- Behavior in response to a shutdown or logoff of the system should be
improved (exiting nicely).
- Console: Built in service installation support through Configuration, to
have the program automatically begin at machine startup. If one wishes, the
service can be further configured and interacted with through the Services
tool (GUI) that can be accessed through the Windows Settings (under
Administrative Tools in 2000/NT). The Sc command line tool may also be used.
There are known issues with the Net tool.
- GUI: Larger window size and more informative display.
- GUI: Screensaver configuration option.
- GUI: Print a message to FAHlog.txt when ask to network.

It looks like only the F@H v5 GUI is not compatible with Win98. The console v5 appears to be fine with Win98.

the general response is one of these two...

everybody else only gets 58 points so it all evens out and it's not for points, its for science

or

this sucks ass, they need to recalculate the points system so that it is even.

haha, yea, i know it's for science, but i wish they would publicize how they calculate points, the logic behind the point system is baffling.

Quote :
"How do you decide how much credit a work unit is worth?

How do you determine how many points a work unit is worth? Before putting out any new work unit, we benchmark it on a dedicated 2.8GHz Pentium 4 machine with SSE2 disabled (more specifically, as reported by /proc/cpuinfo on linux: vendor_id : GenuineIntel, cpu family : 15, model : 2, model name : Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz, stepping : 9, cpu MHz : 2806.438, cache size : 512 KB). This machine runs linux, so all WUs are benchmarked with the linux core.

We plug the results of this into the following formula:

points = 110 * (daysPerWU)

where daysPerWU is the number of days it took to complete the unit. This equation was chosen to match the points for previous Gromacs WUs to the previous point system. The upshot is that Tinker WUs will be worth more than before we set up the new points (i.e. before April 2004).

Please note that the very concept of a reference machine will mean that some WU benchmarking will vary from the performance on your machine. Even between P4s, there are significant differences in architectures over the years. Moreover, variations between FAH WUs can also lead to differences in benchmarking points.

Our goal is consistency within a given definition of a reference machine setup (described above), but beyond that the natural variation from machine to machine and WU to WU will never alllow any point system to perfectly reflect what you get on your machine.

why is it only using 5 MB of RAM?

Every CPU helps. Besides, you have to start somewhere. The FAH program only uses ~5MB, but it is the FahCore_XX.exe that actually runs the simultation and it can use more RAM.

myhtpc is on a wireless NIC, it's an AMD 1900+ but it's hard enough trying to keep up with my 2 computers on dial-up at home, and it's not always turned on because it produces a lot of heat in the media cabinet. i have some other spares, but i just don't want to run 5 computers at home - "just for folding" my desktop and laptop are enough

The team is doing well, but in order to reward those loyal to the team and recruit a some more people, I hope to put together a small contest with some prizes. I'm thinking a few Bestbuy gift cards may do the trick. I'll see if I can get it on the front page for more pimpage. I'm pretty busy right now, so I don't get to check back as often as I would like. If we get some new recruits, we will need your help to answer questions and so forth.

Stay tuned and and Fold On!

yeah... you have one console and one graphical or two consoles. make sure you use the -local flag in the shortcut of both instances. also on opening the second instance (console in both cases), the first time it will not open, just open twice... the shutting down the first time is a way of letting you know that there is another instance running. hope that starts to help... any specific questions?
