Business is about generating as much income as possible. Business is not about reporting as much income as possible to the IRS. Reporting losses while generating wealth is a skill that smart businessmen know how to pull off without breaking the law/getting caught.

Quote :
"The numbers show that in 1985, Mr. Trump reported losses of $46.1 million from his core businesses — largely casinos, hotels and retail space in apartment buildings. They continued to lose money every year, totaling $1.17 billion in losses for the decade. In fact, year after year, Mr. Trump appears to have lost more money than nearly any other individual American taxpayer, The Times found when it compared his results with detailed information the I.R.S. compiles on an annual sampling of high-income earners. His core business losses in 1990 and 1991—more than $250 million each year—were more than double those of the nearest taxpayers in the I.R.S. information for those years. Over all, Mr. Trump lost so much money that he was able to avoid paying income taxes for eight of the 10 years. It is not known whether the I.R.S. later required changes after audits."

He did that to not pay taxes.

Didn't this exact same story come out like 2 or 3 years ago? I'm sure it did; it might have been for a different set of years, though.

Just checked, this is the story I remembered: https://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/02/us/politics/donald-trump-taxes.html

^^ that’s a contortion. Everyone knows Trump wasn’t even a heavyweight in NYC real estate. Far from it. If the other guys weren’t taking massive losses (oh, btw, it was at the same time he was bankrupting casinos) like that why was Trump?

As anyone who was familiar with NYC in the 80s and 90s would tell you, Trump was a terrible businessman.

As I’ve always said, he was a great celebrity. And today, that can make you rich. I’d never take that away from him.

[Edited on May 8, 2019 at 7:07 AM. Reason : Banks didn’t avoid him like the plague because he was so good at tax avoidance. Come on...]

I didn't use it as a defense, it's just a reality. Yes he was a terrible businessman. Yes he also overstated his losses to avoid paying income taxes for nearly a decade.

This whole presidency reminds me of the UNC investigation. Tons of smoke and blatant stuff at that but we all know nothing is going to come out of it as much as we are hoping for it....

It’s been like a month since the mueller report was released, spent 400 pages describing obstruction of justice, multiple charges and convictions, and even more referred criminal investigations, an attorney general blatantly corrupt in disseminating this information, and now trump tying up the release of the full report by a ridiculous claim of executive privilege.

Bill Maher got very frustrated about the Dems ability to parry these epic scandals into political victories and I share this frustration. The slower this burns the easier it is for trump to minimize the severity. Trump does illegal things and uses the court system to buy time even if he ultimately loses.

There’s a few possibilities... maybe Dems are trying to drag things out closer to the election, a bunch of rulings coming down against trump’s people during the campaign could be useful. Dems also could be hoping that a measured response with the full backing of the legal system looks more favorable to voters vs being more fierce to defend laws now.

I do think impeachment needs to happen no matter what. It’s the right thing to do and I think makes trump’s reelection more difficult. They absolutely need to find a way to compel trump to testify. It’s abhorrent the president of the United States is unable to answer for himself in front of the American people.

Political victories?? What political victories are you hoping for or expecting? They aren't winning any real victories bc they are spending time trying to win "political victories" when they need to be fighting a constitutional battle. You say this at the end but impeachment is the only option and has been since the release.

The Democrats are in on it, too. But Trump has continued to cut the IRS so much that they no longer have the resources to actually bust the bad guys, and even when they can catch them, they don't have enough resources to successfully prosecute these thieves who are protected by giant legal teams.

So they have to go after the little guys while the big guys are robbing us blind.

I've known some earnest and honest people who are sincere fiscal conservatives. They like balanced budgets and minimal waste. But all their party has done is help rich people raid the Treasury and warn us not to expect Social Security in the future. And they practically sneer when they talk about entitlements, like I'm supposed to feel ashamed when I limp up with my liver-spotted hand out after 40 years of work.

I want a real War on Christmas...a ban on all this "Merry Christmas" bullshit. Cause this country clearly isn't Christian.

"A Nogales Border Patrol agent called the people he apprehends "disgusting subhuman s--- unworthy of being kindling for a fire" and asked the president to "PLEASE let us take the gloves off trump!," federal prosecutors said in court documents.

The statements were made in a text message sent by Agent Matthew Bowen, 39, who is accused of knocking down a Guatemalan man with his Border Patrol vehicle on Dec. 3, 2017, and then lying in a report about the incident, according to documents filed in U.S. District Court in Tucson.

Prosecutors Lori Price and Monica Ryan are asking a judge to allow some of Bowen's text messages to be used as evidence of his "great disdain" for the people he apprehends, which could shed light on his state of mind when he hit the man with his truck.

If a jury were to see the texts, defense lawyer Sean Chapman wrote that he would argue certain terms are "commonplace throughout the Border Patrol's Tucson Sector, that it is part of the agency's culture, and therefore says nothing about Mr. Bowen's mind-set.""

It seems like they’re doing this to pressure Iran, otherwise why would you make this all public, but if the impeachment pressure and oversight keeps ramping up who knows what trump would do.

Clinton dropped missiles on Iraq when he was getting impeached.

So either 1) the White House requested McCain be hidden from sight or 2) the DoD, from the Secretary on down, thought hiding McCain was somehow necessary.

He made some intersting comments about climate change on Piers Morgan while in Britain:

Quote :
"“He [Prince] is really into climate change, and I think that’s great,” Trump told Piers Morgan on “Good Morning Britain.” “What he really wants and what he really feels warmly about it is the future. He wants to make sure future generations have climate that is good climate, as opposed to a disaster, and I agree....

“I did say, ‘Well, the United States right now has among the cleanest climates there are based on all statistics,’” the president added. “And it’s even getting better because I agree with that we want the best water, the cleanest water. It’s crystal clean, has to be crystal clean clear"...

Trump blamed a deteriorating climate on other countries, who “don’t do the responsibility,” as he said. “China, India, Russia, many other nations, they have not very good air, not very good water, and the sense of pollution and cleanliness.”...

“I believe there’s a change in weather, and I think it changes both ways,” he said. “Don’t forget, it used to be called global warming, that wasn’t working, then it was called climate change. Now it’s actually called extreme weather, because with extreme weather you can’t miss.”"

Those quotes are aneurysm inducing. Getting close to his nuclear copypasta

Quote :
"Look, having nuclear—my uncle was a great professor and scientist and engineer, Dr. John Trump at MIT; good genes, very good genes, OK, very smart, the Wharton School of Finance, very good, very smart—you know, if you’re a conservative Republican, if I were a liberal, if, like, OK, if I ran as a liberal Democrat, they would say I'm one of the smartest people anywhere in the world—it’s true!—but when you're a conservative Republican they try—oh, do they do a number—that’s why I always start off: Went to Wharton, was a good student, went there, went there, did this, built a fortune—you know I have to give my like credentials all the time, because we’re a little disadvantaged—but you look at the nuclear deal, the thing that really bothers me—it would have been so easy, and it’s not as important as these lives are (nuclear is powerful; my uncle explained that to me many, many years ago, the power and that was 35 years ago; he would explain the power of what's going to happen and he was right—who would have thought?), but when you look at what's going on with the four prisoners—now it used to be three, now it’s four—but when it was three and even now, I would have said it's all in the messenger; fellas, and it is fellas because, you know, they don't, they haven’t figured that the women are smarter right now than the men, so, you know, it’s gonna take them about another 150 years—but the Persians are great negotiators, the Iranians are great negotiators, so, and they, they just killed, they just killed us."

Does anyone have any clue what in the hell this bumbling idiot is talking about here? When did Mueller testify? What letter correcting his testimony did he write?

Did he mix up Barr’s testimony and think it was Mueller?

I don't think that President Trump pays attention to details, so he probably thinks that Robert Mueller's DOJ statement to the press was a testimony of some sort.

With regard to the letter, I assume that he's referring to this:

I saw that a lot of his defenders are claiming that by "the Moon is a part of Mars" , he was talking about our moon being a launch point to go to Mars... but to do that, we'd still need to go to the moon again, so people would be talking about it, so what is he talking about?
