Any barrel recommendations? Want to go 14.5in, chrome lined, no front sight, 5.56. Not looking to cheap out but don't wat to pay $texas for more than I need.Basically, what is the value in something like:http://noveskerifleworks.com/cgi-bin/imcart/display.cgi?item_id=b-145-556&cat=158&page=1&search=&since=&status=&title=over this:http://www.spikestactical.com/new/z/st-fn-cold-hammer-forged-145-midlength-barrel-556-p-829.htmlor https://danieldefense.com/cold-hammer-forged-barrels/14-5-inch-chf-barrels/14-5-5-56mm-mid-length-1-7-lw-profile.htmlorhttp://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ar-15-05/upper-parts/barrels/psa-14-7-hf-cl-mp-mid-length-light-profile-barrel.html

You'll never know the difference.[Edited on April 20, 2012 at 7:26 PM. Reason : PSA's barrels are made by FN]

should i build a 308 a/r variant or should i get a dragunov or 7.62x54r ak variant?
4/20/2012 7:27:50 PM
What do you want to do with it? What are your goals?
4/20/2012 7:29:22 PM
4/20/2012 7:44:20 PM
FN is good stuff
4/20/2012 7:47:21 PM
I would pick the DD or PSA barrels myself.
4/20/2012 8:57:12 PM
Thanks guys, that is probably what I will go with. Decided I am just going to set up a trust so I can get NFA goodies and going to build one regular SBR and get another upper in 300 blackout with a can on it Might just get a pistol lower for the time before all the paperwork goes through so I can still play with them.

SP 101 9mm on the way!!!!!!!!!!!
4/20/2012 9:08:23 PM
Lots of cheap ammo lots of round down range and accurate to 500-600 yards
4/21/2012 2:55:28 PM
You're not going to get all that with either. Lots of cheap ammo - PSL. 5-600yd accuracy - AR-10. The PSL is a reasonably accurate gun, but I wasn't impressed enough with it at 100yd to even think about doing 500+. The AR-10 can be quite affordable to shoot a lot if you reload, but buying factory ammo will eat you alive in a 308 semi.
4/21/2012 5:11:40 PM
If I were going to do it over again I would get a DPMS AR-10 variant instead of Armalite. Not that my Armalite isn't a sweet weapon but you can pretty much only use Armalite stuff with it and the DPMS is cheaper.
4/21/2012 6:00:49 PM
I'm trying to decide between a SCAR-17S, a kel-tec bullpup, and a DPMS AR-10. The kel-tec is appealing because I'm left handed, but the DPMS offers a lot of options for the money.

Thoughts on Smith & Wesson M&P SHIELD 9mm? I tried searching and didnt really find anything posted.[Edited on April 22, 2012 at 6:22 PM. Reason : stole pic from budsgunshop]
4/22/2012 6:19:24 PM
just another option for folks looking for a single stack 9mm for CC. that's a good thing i guess.
4/22/2012 6:58:02 PM
That is good considering the only other options are Kel-tec or Kahr. I guess there's also Walther.
4/22/2012 7:17:57 PM
4/22/2012 7:33:01 PM
Isn't Springfield releasing a single-stack 9mm as well? The XD-S line or whatever it's called?
4/22/2012 7:36:28 PM
I forgot about the LC9
4/22/2012 7:38:41 PM
yeah, I was wondering about that Ruger...also- I'm looking at getting a semi auto 20ga, and am looking primarily at the Mossberg SA20 tactical (this would be primarily for HD). Anyone have any experience with this? Or know someone looking to get rid of one? and has anyone seen a Keltec KSG yet? I assumed there would be more of them out there by now, but I don't know anyone that has actually got to try one yet...

looking to get my hands on a conceal carry pistol (already have my permit). mainly looking for a used gun, not a piece of shit, but used unless I can get new for a good price. Not really looking to spend more than 300 if possible. Any suggestions on places in/around Raleigh to go check out?

4/22/2012 9:22:04 PM
Anyone seen any of the Sig P6/P225 9mm police trade-ins from a few years ago for sale local?
4/22/2012 10:24:12 PM
Keltec I know they have gotten better but I could never trust my life to one
4/22/2012 11:16:52 PM
Really? Why do you say that?I too have been casually looking into concealed pistols and haven't heard anything critical of Keltec. Local gun shop naturally says they're very popular and decent...
4/23/2012 12:29:14 AM
.Sig P6/P225:I saw one on CSF about a month ago. Not sure how much they were asking for it or how close to Raleigh it was though.Kel tec:I have owned two, a P11 and a P32. I thought the P32 was a much better overall gun. While the P11 would function perfectly, I thought that the P32 is easier to shoot accurately and is friendlier on the shooter. The P11 just did not fit my hand, and the frame would wear a sore on my hand. Just m2c[Edited on April 23, 2012 at 12:52 AM. Reason : .]

^^ always felt and seemed like cheaply put together guns IMO. If it is something I am going to trust with my life I don't mind spending a little more for a reputable brand. Although keltec does make some cool stuff like that pump shotgun they are coming out with.

i was interested in keltecs pmr-30 until they suspended production.

haha, youve owned a hi-point
4/23/2012 7:00:00 PM
^^^ probably most of my shooting will be sub 300 yards, if I really want to reach out and touch someone I would use my AR10. This will be more of a zombie fun gun than anything. Maybe shoot some varmints around my parents ranch.
4/23/2012 7:05:46 PM
^^ Yup, my very first gun. Bought another one for a soft shooter to teach a friend to shoot. I'd like to pick up another one to keep in the car. Never know when you're going to need a hammer, pry bar, etc.
4/23/2012 10:39:12 PM
I can't speak for Hi-Point's pistols, but my 9mm carbine is really fun to shoot. It's given me zero problems, it eats any and all brands of ammo, and the ghost ring sights are fantastic. My only complaint is about the 10 round magazines. I'd like a higher capacity.
4/23/2012 10:57:12 PM
4/23/2012 11:10:00 PM
^Yeah I should have clarified more that I have no experience with their carbines. I would never buy one but they do seem to be better built based on the reviews. They seem to be extremely difficult to find so maybe KT actually puts a little care into them and makes them solid, reliable firearms.

Well it only took 4 months to get my Glock sold and buy the Sig but I couldn't be more happy. Holster/Belt/Mag Pouch are Desantis (for now) - still waiting on a Speed Scabbard from them as well.[Edited on April 25, 2012 at 3:44 PM. Reason : Photo is too big. ]

Decided to keep my AR, strip the paint, and customize it the way I want it and build an SBR at the same time. I have a hard time selling a gun Taking the front sight post off and going to add a low profile gas block, the pins to take that post off are a total bitch. Still have to get the gas tube pin out, I really need a nicer set of punches, the ones I have are slightly too big to be effective on this pin.
4/26/2012 10:54:42 AM
Anybody have a 22LR conversion for their glock?
4/26/2012 10:59:26 AM
Got all the pins out, just had to take of the flash supressor to get the front sight post off. Was having a hard time getting any torque on it since I don't have a vice block yet (in the mail) so what I did was took my vertical foregrip and attached it to the top of the receiver. Combine that with a some vice grip pliers on the flash supressor and it came off pretty easy.
4/26/2012 11:56:49 AM
^ good idea using the VFG for leverage
4/26/2012 1:43:43 PM
This cost me 49ยข for a white crayon.. Pretty good bang for the buck IMO. The magazines are next
4/26/2012 9:19:57 PM
Yellow would have been cooler, cause you know... Black and yellow black and yellow black and yellow black and yellow... i keed. Very nice
4/26/2012 9:39:28 PM
I'm interested to hear how well that holds up.When I shoot my Glock, it can get hot enough that the slide can burn you. I wonder if the crayon would hold up to that, or melt all over the place.
