I finally found a P2000SK today, thanks to the good people at Shooting Sports Wholesale. It's no wonder neither I nor the people at Lawmen's had never heard of them before - they're not a retail outlet, even though they were listed as one online. (They can sell directly to Eagle One.) While they don't have a storefront, they were willing to let me hold a brand new P2000SK and a P30 after I told them that I've had such a hard time finding HK handguns in this area. There's no question about it - I have got to get a P2000SK for my concealed carry piece. That thing is just plain lovely. Also, in unrelated news, a friend sent me a link to this.http://www.evike.com/product_info.php?cPath=21_44_211&products_id=37490While I have no interest whatsoever in airsoft guns, I have to admit that I've always wanted a replica of the M-41A Pulse Rifle from the movie Aliens. Having one which actually does something (as opposed to just a resin recast of a prop which has no functionality whatsoever) makes me that much more interested. The props used in the film were built around a Thompson submachine gun with a SPAS-12 (I think) shotgun underbarrel.

I've got a P2000SK V3 9mm and a P30 if you'd like to shoot them sometime, if I can ever find time to get to the range.

The best response I have heard in the 9mm, 40, 45 debate is from a buddy of my who is in special forces. He carries a Glock 19 and when I asked him what he thinks about the debate of it not having enough stopping power he responded, "People who say that haven't killed people. I have killed people, 9mm gets the job done."
4/12/2012 10:43:19 PM
I have a .45, and am the first to say that I think there isn't a dime's worth of difference between any of those cartridges. Bullet placement is far more important.Maybe the .45 holds a little bit of advantage with FMJ ammo? I don't know, but with hollow points, I wouldn't be concerned with the difference. I guess I'd prefer the .45, but I'd prefer twice as many 9mm or .40.
4/12/2012 10:50:18 PM
^^It's hard to argue with that.I really think it's funny, or more like amazingly dumb. I've had an SBI agent tell me 45 ACP is better because if you don't hit the vitals it'll at least knock the guy backwards. W T F. I thought he was an intelligent man. Hell, he's even a big hunter. If your 338 Winmag blows right through an elk and the elk runs off like all that's happened is he's been spooked, then why would you ever think a 45ACP will push a man backwards?^In FMJ bigger is better and a big flat meplate is better than round nose. There's no argument in that; just look at safari rifles and dangerous game ammo.I love 9mm, but if I got a 1911 (which I've owned in the past and love shooting) I'd get it in a 45 because that's what it's designed around.[Edited on April 12, 2012 at 10:58 PM. Can't decide if I should take off the camo or not. Liked to for a while but now I kinda wanna go with a black and FDE type look.

i like that camo job. did you spray it yourself?
4/14/2012 2:36:17 PM
yeah, just got some leaves/twigs from bushes to spray over
4/14/2012 3:34:31 PM
What kind of paint did you use?I was thinking about doing mine in digital camo after I finish my mods.
4/15/2012 11:55:46 AM
Not real sure, some kind of spray paint my brother in law had that he used on his guns.

As most of you know (though some of you may not), Grass Roots North Carolina (GRNC http://www.grnc.org/) is a great guns rights organization that has helped write and pass important gun legislation (HB 650... aka Castle Doctrine, among other items!!!) as well as block anti-gun bills and mind-numbing stupidity from the NRA. I just went to a GRNC seminar yesterday on legislative tactics and it was awesome, eye-opening, and very informative. GRNC sends out alerts (just frequent enough to keep you informed, but not so frequently that you're annoyed) to tell you when certain legal, legislative, etc. activities are occurring, who to contact about it, and what to say.I signed up for alerts about a year ago, just to check GRNC out, since I didn't know anything about them. Once HB 650 passed (GRNC's president wrote the bill), I decided the group was legit so I joined. I'm going to start volunteering with them as well.I just wanted to throw this out there, in case any of you haven't heard of them, or aren't a member, but may be willing to become one. Like I said, I took a year or so to "feel" them out, but once HB 650 passed and I learned why, my mind was made up. GRNC is also responsible for trying to get HB 111, restaurant carry, passed (it is still alive).I don't get anything out of this, but I feel that most of you agree with what GRNC does and I hope you will support gun rights, not just say you're in favor of them (there is a difference). I might even suggest you take that NRA membership money and put it to GRNC instead (or do both, but at least GRNC), as GRNC has done much for NC gun rights than the NRA, and grass root/state level organizations also have a large influence, as a whole (behind the scenes) on federal legislation. Feel free to contact me about GRNC (note, I'm not a representative, just a member, so I can give you my personal feedback) or just check out their website./plug]

Today, I installed an S&K Mosin Nagant Scope mount on my 91/30 which I picked up from Brownells. Great quality, fit and finish. As I walking out the door today, the UPS guy delivered my Millet 1" Red Dot scope. I couldn't help but spare 3 minutes and mount it. I still need to sight it in and straighten it up a bit I can't wait to give it a shot.http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=26104/Product/MOSIN-NAGANT-MOUNThttp://www.jetguns.com/millett-sp1-red-dot-1-3m-p-22996.htmlDepending on how well this works for me out to ~150 yards, I may pick up a LER 2-7x scope and move the Millet Red Dot to the M44. Application specific really.. What are YOU going to use it for? They are like everything else, you can invest a little, or a lot. There are many different platforms and accessories.

AR stands for Armalite, the original designers of the ARGenerally you want to put your money into a quality barrel and quality materials. You can either buy a full rifle or you can just buy a complete Upper and put the rest together yourself (lower receiver + lower build kit). You'll generally save money this way and be able to further customize your rifle to your likings. I think a lot of us here think PSA is a pretty reputable company to start at, with a complete entry rifle running between $600-700. Another option is to just buy a Colt 6920 and go from there, but that'll run about $1000. Can't go wrong with BCM or Daniel Defense, either. If money isn't an issue, look at LaRue or Noveske.http://palmettostatearmory.com/

Accuracy International AX338, made by the Brits. I believe they and the Canadians use them, not sure if the US uses them. Believe it has the longest confirmed killshot on record

Anyone here ever bought any fireams off of Gunbroker? Good?, bad?, never again?
4/17/2012 5:07:24 PM
My dad has bought at least one gun off there, no complaints from him as long as you can find what you want at the right price (can be difficult)
4/17/2012 5:57:28 PM
I've bought a few without incident. Had them all shipped to a local FFL holder. No complaints here, so I've been pretty lucky.

Why no love for the Sig 556 with the AR crowd? And yes Armalite FTW! I will have an AR-10T one day.

Just installed a ZEV spring kit and Ghost Ultimate trigger connector in my OD glock. Hopefully going to try it out at the GSSF match this weekend. Before I installed the parts:It is a nearly new compact frame, and the internals aren't nearly as broken in. My 23 has 20k rounds through it, and the trigger is much smoother when compared side by side. After:The Ghost Ultimate connector feels similar to the factory minus connector. It may be just a little lighter. It looks identical in shape to the factory minus connector. The 6lb trigger spring, 4lb striker spring, and reduced power plunger spring makes the uptake lighter and crisper. I can't say it is better or worse yet, but I believe I will like it. I will be ordering another kit soon to put in the high round count 23 to see if it makes any improvements there.
4/19/2012 1:56:49 AM
After seeing all these AR's I have decided to sell mine and build another. Going to make this one exactly how I want it instead of just building one on a budget like last time. Going to do a black/FDE color scheme, Geissele SSA trigger, 14.5 in barrel with a Noveske KX3 on the end to make it legal, thinking a Troy VTAC Alpha Battle rail that covers almost the entire barrel. Both front and back flip up BUS and not sure on optics. Thinking about getting a scope and then adding an offset mount with red dot or eotech/aimpoint with magnifier that I can flip on and off.Going to keep it pretty clean as far as tacticooling it out and all, want it to be real slick looking and still be able to take out zombies close and far away with ease.
4/19/2012 3:24:03 PM
I would avoid the KX3 on the end of a 14.5.It is really heavy and would really make the rifle off balanced. Also, you would have to permanently attach it to the barrel. Just pick a nice flash hider or compensator. Look at the battle comp 2.0 or battle comp XL (needed to get the 16'' overall).I have a KX3 on my 7.5'' barrel. I put it on my 16'' barrel just to see what it was like, and made the rifle extremely front heavy. It wouldn't be any better on a 14.5. Remember leverage is weight x distance.
4/19/2012 5:54:06 PM
Hmmm didn't think of that, just really like the look of it. What issues exactly does the added weight cause? Is it holding the rifle or its effect on the barrel?
4/19/2012 5:59:39 PM
It doesn't affect the barrel. It makes the rifle feel about 3 or 4 pounds heavier. The more weight you put near the front, the more the rifle wants to point barrel down. Also, I wouldn't want to permanently attach something that big to the front of the rifle. Some of the battle comps are the same OD as a Gov't profile barrel, so you can still swap rails and accessories even though it is permanently attached.
