you're not missing out on much. Multitasking only works for core-apps which isn't really much different then without multi-tasking.
5/4/2010 4:13:48 PM
i wonder how long it will take developers to add multitasking capability to their apps. there's really like only three or four apps where i'd really care... Safari, Mail, an IM client...
5/4/2010 4:16:34 PM
^Safari and Mail already do that in beta...but like i said...whats the point really for either?IM would be useful but I mainly care for the Pandora multi-tasking which sounds like it might be out very close to launch. The skype multitasking sounds awesome so i might give that a shot.
5/4/2010 4:21:02 PM
My other vote for multitasking would be for the Ambiance app, for background noise.
5/4/2010 4:27:18 PM
5/4/2010 4:52:11 PM
I didn't think of that. That is pretty useful...although I can do that now in the beta, I've just gotten used to going to the home screen that I don't ever use the fast switch. I need to get in the habit of doing that.Although now that double tapping the home button is used for multitasking...there is no longer the option to bring up the iTunes controls.
5/4/2010 4:59:49 PM
I've got mine set to long press for multitasking. The double tap is still for itunes. I use this sometimes: http://www.appleiphoneschool.com/2010/01/24/proswitcher-palm-pre-styled-application-switcher/Kind of like Palm Web OS for switching applications. It's pretty sweet. There's a bunch of other options too. Rockin the OS4 background:

i assumed you knew mine was jailbroken. Check out that video in that link. It's pretty sweet. It solves yalls returning to the home page multitasking problem.
5/4/2010 5:48:43 PM
oh I thought yours was jailbroken but wasn't sure if it was a 3.1.3 jailbreak or the rumored 4.0
5/4/2010 5:49:22 PM
just have to say that "woohoo" is an awesome name for a wifi network (assuming that's what it is).
5/4/2010 5:51:43 PM
no i've got an app that will change the phone network name. so i changed it from AT&T to woohoo.Proswitcher is pretty sweet. Got it set to double tap now to bring up the flow (like on web OS). It's almost like this was made to go with the iPhone. You can either tap the x to close the app or swipe up. Very very fluid.
5/4/2010 5:54:05 PM
oh. well since it's at&t, you should have called it "fuckup"
5/4/2010 6:06:22 PM
hahathat proswitcher app is awesome though btw[Edited on May 5, 2010 at 8:59 AM. Reason : asdf]

Beta 3 has some new added features. My concern about losing iPod controls with double tapping home button have been addressed in this update. Although not exactly the same way as before but now when you double tap the home button it will only ever bring up the multitask bar. If you scroll to the far left of the multitask bar it brings up iPod controls, shortcut to the iPod app, and screen orientation lock button.
5/5/2010 1:37:17 PM
The whole "double tap home" to bring up iPod controls was always oddly implemented at best.Half the time I'd wind up with the little prompt that had the controls, half the time I'd wind up back inside the full on iPod app.
5/5/2010 1:49:56 PM
coolman this proswitcher thing is incredibly awesome. it really should have always just been included--there's about 100 different ways you can set it up to access other apps and it behaves as well enough to be a native app. anything from double tapping home to hitting the volume buttons a certain way can be used to get you to the screen to switch between apps. and you still have access to the bottom row of apps while you're flipping through open apps. also in the top right when switching apps it displays the number of alerts you have for that particular app which i thought was pretty cool
5/5/2010 1:51:44 PM
^^huh? I've never seen that issue before. The only issues i've had was not double tapping fast enough or missing the second tap and I go to the spotlight search or first page of icons.I don't see how double tapping the home button could ever bring up the iPod app?[Edited on May 5, 2010 at 1:52 PM. 5/5/2010 1:52:21 PM
you can set it for double clicking to open the ipod app..obviously
5/5/2010 1:58:44 PM
^?If that's the case then it's working as it's supposed to lol
5/5/2010 2:21:41 PM
lolpretty sure it's suppose to still just open the controls if you have a song playing thoughi could be wrong since i barely use this thing to play music and don't really remember
5/5/2010 2:39:40 PM
Yeah, like ScHpEnXeL said, I have it set so that double-tap means "iPod and while it always sort of gets me to the play controls one way or the others, it's pretty inconsistent as far as whether I get the floating controls over my app or the iPod app itself.

I wonder how much it kills the battery to keeps apps like facebook open all the time.

more flash burn.http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/06/opera-wades-into-flash-debate-says-it-makes-very-little-sense/
5/6/2010 3:53:26 PM
The eggs comment is a bit much, but like he said "today's internet content is dependent on Flash" doesn't really seem like the guy is really in Apple's camp on this one either.
5/6/2010 4:08:47 PM
This isn't an Apple vs. Adobe reference. I only posted it here because this is where we've been having the flash debate.
5/6/2010 4:22:14 PM
My stance is still that it "making very little sense" and it "being the best option widely available" aren't mutually exclusive.
5/6/2010 5:02:50 PM
It was/is the most widely used format because there were no better alternatives. That has changed and so will Flash's market share.
5/6/2010 7:22:09 PM
i can't download files via safari for some reason. Was trying to download a zip file for a theme and it gave me the safari "can't download this file" bleh bleh error. I've got installous and ifile installed. Weird. I'll just copy it over to the themes folder via iphonebrowser for now.
5/10/2010 7:05:52 PM
anyone w/ an iphone dev account want to add my phone to it? i'll beta test
5/10/2010 7:17:30 PM
got illumine theme installed. i'm really liking it with 5 columns. the 4 columns looks a little toyish.

damn, how do you manage to find what you're looking for quickly.
5/10/2010 8:53:49 PM
i really dont understand why they still have the 4 column layout on the ipad.. i mean, even the iphone has room for 5[Edited on May 10, 2010 at 9:01 PM. Reason : k 6 row app was a bit much, haha]
5/10/2010 8:59:51 PM
^^Haven't really thought much about it. It's not that much more cramped than the standard 4x4 layout, IMO. Just with the addition of folders instead of multiple pages. And then of course if I'm looking for something that I don't use that often, I just swipe over to the left and use spotlight. It's hard to tell from the screenshot, but that bottom right icon is a stack called "Travel" that has 5 icons that pops up with travel related things. Maps, TomTom, Gas Buddy, etc. Helps keeping all those things sorted like that, I think.^Yeah, that's one of the things I can't WAIT for them to get fixed on the iPad. I can condense 200+ apps on my iPhone into one page, but yet I have to scroll through 4-5 pages on my giant iPad screen? Retarded as hell, IMO.]
5/10/2010 9:02:32 PM
if you rotate the iPad, it switches to 5x4, instead of 4x5.

has anyones google maps directions been messing up?for a few weeks now mine has been all jacked up. first think i noticed was the time estimate being wrong (it'll say 2 hours 24 minutes for a 15 minute trip). then i noticed the actual directions were bad...showing horrible horrible routes (like snaking around the beltline instead of actually going on the beltline.anyone?
