http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=sigma+10mm&N=0&InitialSearch=yesIt looks pretty sexy. But I <3 the tokina 11-16.[Edited on December 14, 2009 at 6:44 PM. Reason : .]
12/14/2009 6:44:02 PM
^^Not really. The only way to get to it is down some desolate back road, and it leads directly to a no trespassing sign and land owned by the airport authority. We were up there for an hour or so and didn't see a single person.
12/14/2009 8:31:30 PM
i played w/ a friend's tokina 11-16 the other day and it was really awesome. i haven't touched my camera in like 5 months.. but that was so much fun. if i had some cash i'd look into that.
12/14/2009 9:40:09 PM
i bought a t1i a week ago or so - love it so far - just got the kit lens and the 55-250 that has been making the rounds in all of the deals recently
12/14/2009 9:41:48 PM
^^ it really is a great lens. i love it.
12/14/2009 10:37:18 PM
^^I just got the d3000 with the 50-200vr for 50 bucks less than I could get the XSi with the 50-250IS right now, but at the time it was about 150-200 less than that package usually is. I can't decide if I'm upset or not. I'd been holding out so long and this is clearly the best deal in a long time for the canons.
12/14/2009 10:41:20 PM
Seriously, what is the fundamental difference between the d5000 and the d90 besides kit lens and the swivel screen? Do those difference really justify the increased price??
12/16/2009 12:18:15 AM
Internet says D90 has internal autofocus motor and more lens options or some shit.I dunno I don't shoot Nikon.[Edited on December 16, 2009 at 12:56 AM. Reason : .]

I guess the internal autofocus motor could make it $300 more expensive...funny though, I checked the nikon website and didn't see that bit of info...

i am keeping my fingers rediculously crossed right now that i get a digital slr for xmas.... cannot wait if i do.think i might even take the new car up to nyc for a day trip after xmas should be an awesome trip.
12/16/2009 9:07:25 PM
^lol me too!it's the one thing I asked for, so I'm hoping that my parents coordinate with my g-parents to get me one or something.
12/16/2009 9:08:02 PM
haha i told my mom and dad that if all i open is a new camera on xmas i will be the happiest camper ever.if i dont get it. i'm going to be so super bummed.
12/16/2009 9:09:00 PM
I probably will too...but I'm not holding my breath seeing how my family has been hard off money wise...although I got a new computer last year and we were even worse off...so I'm being optimistic...if I don't get one though I won't let my parents know that I'm really bummed about it.
12/16/2009 9:10:37 PM
the d5000 is a tarted-up d40: same basic frame, so there's a thumbwheel, mode selector, and a d-pad.the d90 has an LCD on top to show current settings and status, which bumps the mode selector over to the left of the built in flash. there's a thumbwheel and a d-pad but also a fingerwheel. The built in focus motor is a big deal, too, as there are several situations where you spend a couple hundred dollars less on a lens that has no focus motor: tokina 11-16, non-brand new nikkor primes, etc.

This website is good; http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/28/nikon-d5000-review-head-to-head-with-d90/Looks like I will still yearn for the d90.

i'm reading mixed things... should you always keep a UV filter on your lenses?
12/22/2009 3:49:56 PM
personal preferences. I personally use a UV filter only for protecting the front element from scratches and such. Other than that, it really doesn't provide much of anything else. There are purists that say that using cheap UV filters will diminish the IQ by like 1-5% in sharpness. I've only met one photographer who doesn't use UV filters for that "fact", most others just use it the way I do. Nothing more than protecting while transporting or shooting.
12/22/2009 5:21:02 PM
yeah, for $10, i can't really think of a reason NOT to use an UV filter if for no other reason than cheap and effective protection against scratching the lensi'd like to see evidence that it diminishes the IQ in any noticeable way (i mean, i'm sure it affects it somehow, but i can't see it even being at 1%)
