12/1/2006 6:33:43 PM
You still at work?
12/1/2006 6:53:13 PM

12/1/2006 6:55:06 PM
Equilibrium?I spend 40+ hrs a looking at a computer screen and being anti social already. I don't want poker to be more hours on top of that.

Any thoughts to this? I could not see his raises as AK or AQ, much less calling my raises. Your reraise on the flop forces him to call a bet less than 1/4 of the pot. Come on Voooooooooooegele
12/2/2006 12:46:01 AM
He only had $16 left in his stack when I reraised, but the acewasa scary card.

Agreed. I like waiting to raise on the turn, so I can get the most for my money. No reason to wait to the river.[Edited on December 2, 2006 at 1:16 PM. Reason : ]
12/2/2006 1:15:58 PM
Thanks for the advice. The flop call is ok though?
12/2/2006 1:16:15 PM
I may have raised since so many people were in, but limit isn't exactly my forte'
12/2/2006 1:21:55 PM
if there was a 2 flush or another high card on board, id raise the flop.otherwise, your hand is strong enough to take another card off. putting the possible 4 flush on the turn merits a raise to punish possible backdoor draws, but the 6 wont scare off a strong ace from his hand.tick for tack
12/2/2006 1:33:52 PM
typhicane: You played the hand fine, I don't know if david is joking or whatI'm not exactly sure why people lead at flops like this, but in my experience they generally don't have much. I generally only triple their bet also, making the total action approximately the same size as my c-bet would have been if they checked. It got a little tricky with the turn card, but you passed the test and took it down.
12/2/2006 1:35:41 PM
you dont think the guy had like TT or JJ or something here and didnt want to stack off with an ace on board?
12/2/2006 1:37:24 PM
He could have, but that may be giving him a little too much credit. Leading out tiny like that is usually a tell tale sign that he sucks, he could have a number of bullshit hands. I'm not really why some players do this, but I just raise them.btw, I would have raised the flop if I had AK/AQ as well. Then fired out a 2/3-3/4 pot bet regardless of the turn.[Edited on December 2, 2006 at 1:42 PM. Reason : btw]
12/2/2006 1:41:12 PM
i suck at nl
12/2/2006 1:42:50 PM
Justin, I wasn't joking. I've seen people make that exact play before with AK. They raise prelfop and call the reraise. If low cards flop they bet it hoping the other guy completely missed. If you reraise too small on the flop, they call because they think if they hit their ace or king they are good. Only having to call $10 to see the turn would definately be worth it imo. Imagine how the hand would have ended up if he did have AX...
12/2/2006 1:53:04 PM
then the op would have lost, bitched about a bad beat, and moved on.
12/2/2006 1:55:19 PM
right, which is why I see no reason for the small reraise on the flop
12/2/2006 2:00:06 PM
are you pushing for a larger flop raise?fish on man, gotta set the hook, not yank it out of the mouth[Edited on December 2, 2006 at 2:04 PM. Reason : e]
12/2/2006 2:04:19 PM
Oh, don't get me wrong. I love the play if there was no raise preflop or if someone raised preflop and you just called. I just don't really like it when you've already reraised preflop making it obvious you have a monster.
12/2/2006 2:08:00 PM
The flop raise is designed to stack a lower pair, and it should be big enough to get A high out. A 3x raise is on the small end of what I'm usually betting here, but I don't think it's a bad bet. He would have just c-bet $15 in a $20 pot if the dude had checked, so you're basically just ignoring that $5 donk bet. The turn was very tricky, but like I said, he passed the test so more power to him. I probably would have raised too, because that's just my nature. But a lot of players take the more conservative route in this situation, which isn't necessarily wrong. My read on the opponents hand in this situation is maybe a lower pair(and yes, players will bet the scare card like this with such a hand) or just bullshit(which certainly includes a number of hands with an A in it). So I still think you're probably ahead of his range on the turn, which justifies a raise.[Edited on December 2, 2006 at 2:12 PM. Reason : .]
12/2/2006 2:10:09 PM
12/2/2006 2:13:05 PM
but david, you dont really want ace high out.its drawing slimmer than top pair with a joined kicker
12/2/2006 2:14:22 PM
Unless you've got a real live one on your hands, they're folding A high. He's just spewing chips if he's calling with overs there, considering you're representing the overpair at every instance, if he hits the 3-outer then oh well. nhggwp.[Edited on December 2, 2006 at 2:18 PM. Reason : .]
12/2/2006 2:17:42 PM
ok, so why not just call on the flop?[Edited on December 2, 2006 at 2:18 PM. Reason : ^]
12/2/2006 2:17:52 PM
Cause that's not how we roll. We have the lead, don't let him take it away with some $5 donk bet. We actually have the goods this time too, but that's not really the point.[Edited on December 2, 2006 at 2:20 PM. Reason : why do I edit so much?]

A little. We got a .5/1 cash game going a few weeks ago in cary, I would love for that to start being a regular thing.

We?

Glad my hand inspired some conversation. I thought I had a good read. David, I see your point, but I agree with Noid. Set the hook, don't rip it out of the fish's mouth. $10 raise gave me control and grew the pot. Also setup his bluff. I am not sure what he folded, I should have checked. A(baby) would have been great, but I figure it was 10-10 or J-J.
12/2/2006 4:25:12 PM
Fair enough. So, why don't you just call the turn so he will bet into you again on the river?
12/2/2006 6:18:37 PM
With only$16 left I thought he was pot committed regardless.
12/2/2006 6:48:41 PM
