very nice.

I had a job last summer in Red Springs. I never saw him there.Which is kind of surprising if you've ever been to Red Springs.
10/9/2009 10:14:08 AM
^ yea its more like Red Springs

this only helps us more with CJLDave Telep dispelled the rumors about CJL committing to UK this weekend so thats a positive for us. i know that CJ had canceled his OV to UK but im not sure now. This makes State a very attractive school for CJ now as he can play the hybrid 3 as we will have a solid cast of true position players. this is huge for us as be got the big we wanted and with ryan, brown and now cothron we got the class that we needed to help move the program forward even if CJ goes somewhere else. CJL committing would make this one of the most talented recruiting classes we have ever seen.

I knew we were in good standing with Luke, and he really seems to enjoy the football games, but wasn't expecting this now. This is excellent news!
10/9/2009 11:41:59 AM
fowler made some comment a few weeks ago at a WPC meeting that a big time recruit in basketball was close to committing and i knew LC had told the staff he was coming to play ball for state. Cousins told the staff the same thing so i was worried he was playing us like that.
10/9/2009 11:52:04 AM
that is awesome.now let's not fuck it up, yeah?
10/9/2009 3:10:29 PM
great day for me recruiting wise, we pick up Cothron and Sean Miller picked up 2 4-stars at Arizona.
10/9/2009 3:21:02 PM
i just went from totally disinterested in basketball season to rock-hard after reading the last page

According to gravis, Cothron, Harrow, and Tony Warren Jr. (the former Pack player's son) will be on hand for the Duke football game this weekend. If you see give them a big welcome and thank Luke for committing.

^^ Same here. I've been very impressed by the recruiting efforts by Lowe and his staff. They've been behind the 8-ball due to (at first) having an unproven head coach and (lately) having lackluster results on the court 3 straight seasons. Landing JJ Hickson was what got my attention initially, b/c that committment came outa nowhere for most of us. The 2008 class combined with a glaring hole at PG however caused everyone to sour on Lowe, including me to an extent. But IMHO the 2010 class confirms my original assessment - that Lowe is capable of landing big-time talent. Granted, Lowe's sales pitch will eventually fall on deaf ears if he doesn't win games, but it's still pretty damn impressive that he's landing quality players even without stellar results on the court. How did he do it? Yeah there's putting in hours on the recruiting trail and selling NBA credentials and connections. But I think the overlooked asset here is Lowe's passion for NC State basketball. Yes I know that sounds sappy and naive, but think about it. Lowe managed to win over Cothron at least in part by talking about NC State's bball history. HISTORY. Making State's history relevant to the modern college bball prospect that wasn't ALIVE the last time State won an ACC title is no small accomplishment. Especially if said recruit has one eye on the NBA, in which case the long-term success of a college program takes on less and less significance. But overall... it's just nice to get some good freakin' news about the bball program. It's been too damn long...

May, 2009: The Alabama native who has taken his game the prep school route has continued to improve his game in the low post. He is a long armed shot blocker with great patience and timing that alters more shots than he blocks. He has the ability to put up big numbers in both points and rebounds scoring off the post feed or getting his own on the offensive glass. Cothron does a nice job fighting for low post position; once he catches he can score going left or right shoulder. When teams doubled down he understands how to pass out of the post diagonally or block to block. He gets out on the break and consistently beat his man down the floor; his lateral quickness is good enough to guard a face up 4-man, but he is most effective defending around the basket. He has a quiet toughness about him and does not mind playing the role of the enforcer.April, 2009: Cothron is a long and lean athlete that affects the game in a variety of ways. He is active and aggressive on both ends of the floor with ability to rebound and block shots. He lacks strength but makes up for it with effort and intensity. He rebounds at rim level and runs the floor extremely well. He finishes drop off passes above the rim with a clear path. He has great shot block timing on and away from the ball. What he does not block he changes. He scores in the lane with athletic moves where he elevates over defenders with good touch and body control. He also is a tip dunk threat on the offensive glass as well. He has good hands and active feet. He lacks perimeter skills but can put the ball on the floor one or two dribble and get into the lane with minimal ball pressure. If Cothron improves his ball skills and expands his shooting range from outside the lane he will elevate his game to the next level. Big time athlete with ton of upside and a pleasant surprise on a loaded Boo Williams team.

I gotta give Lowe some credit. The man can recruit. Hopefully he'll learn how to coach soon.
10/9/2009 7:44:36 PM
I'm still pumped about Cothron, but I still have a feeling this is where Fowler fires Lowe at the end of the year and we lose Brown, Harrow, Cothron.amirite simonn?
10/10/2009 9:08:51 AM
fuck you guysnow you've put the idea back in my head that we might still end up with CJLi'm going to be heartbroken
10/10/2009 10:07:29 AM
Just assume we won't, and be pleasantly surprised if we do.
10/10/2009 10:22:02 AM
IT DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY
10/10/2009 10:38:11 AM
Just watched J. Wall play some 1-1 at the downtown YMCA. Dude has skills! I would have loved to have him run with the pack, but i'm looking forward to seeing what he can do at KY!
10/10/2009 12:59:53 PM
a comment at wolfpackhoops says CJ is coming with Harrow to the Duke game...fwiw
10/10/2009 1:26:24 PM
the good news from our game(if there was any) was i saw Harrow AND Leslie at the game for the first half. They left before half but that's probably a good thing. Lowe was pimping it.
10/11/2009 2:51:58 AM
Lowe passed me as he was driving out of the game with a few minutes left in the fourth. I yelled to him that we better beat Duke in basketball.
10/11/2009 9:09:18 AM
Haha saw Johnny and Enrico while I was working on club level
10/11/2009 12:05:27 PM
new Harrow video is up on WPH...i think he got even nastier. looks bigger too.1:27 mark[Edited on October 12, 2009 at 10:29 AM. Reason : 1:27]
10/12/2009 10:28:52 AM
I'll be shocked if he doesn't end up at UK. I'd give us about a 5% chance.
10/12/2009 10:59:21 AM
My sources tell me anywhere from a 4% chance to a 37% chance.Ryan is so good.
10/12/2009 11:23:20 AM
That new Harrow vid is real nice. He and Leslie would make for a nasty match up in the ACC.Gotta love point guards that like dunking the ball.
10/12/2009 12:23:12 PM
lots of good things said about the chemistry between CJ and ryan... hopefully they'll have more opportunities to play together in marquis events like this.[Edited on October 12, 2009 at 2:31 PM. Reason : .]

harrow looks like he's gone from holocaust victim to slender. maybe added an inch of height as wellanother year of growth and he should be good to go. also nice to see he didnt lose any explosiveness with the weight gain
10/12/2009 2:49:42 PM
I 'bout jizzed my pants watchin that video. I love that Harrow's team spanked the team with two UNC recruits.

Anyone going to the midnight madness type thing Friday night? If so, please take some pictures and report back for us out-of-staters.

article on leslie in the n&o this morning, basically a rehash of what we already knowhttp://www.newsobserver.com/front/story/139031.html

10/13/2009 1:17:01 PM
i just came in here to post that is all
10/13/2009 4:32:09 PM
seems like people are dangerously getting their hopes up for leslie.
10/13/2009 7:05:52 PM
^ Yeah, you're probably right there. I think the only real glimmer of hope is Harrow's relentless recruiting efforts. If the man doesn't go pro we should hire him on as an assistant after he uses up his eligibility .
10/13/2009 7:10:29 PM
yeah I don't think we'll land him if we have a bad year this year, and most signs are pointing to us having a bad year this year. I think we'll need to do more than finish bottom 10 in the ACC this year to have a chance.
10/13/2009 7:19:11 PM
^awesome handle

holy shit Ryan Harrow is ridiculous. I know this was mentioned above but no one linked to it for some reason...http://wolfpackhoops.blogspot.com/2009/10/video-ryan-harrow-puts-on-show-at-elite.html
10/13/2009 8:41:39 PM
Leslie is nasty in that video, too. Any player who can get their head level with the basket is going to be a beast.
10/13/2009 9:19:48 PM
^...especially if that player is 6'0". Check Ryan's dunk @ 2:07 in ^^.
10/13/2009 10:20:07 PM
harrow states emphatically that he'll sign in the fall according to the pp article.
