Tried it. Not a fan. Not fluid at all, and zoomed out rendering sucks. oh and Plants versus Zombies is really addicting. Finally got it.

Semi-timely blog post about iPhone abuse...http://www.tuaw.com/2010/04/14/found-footage-flying-iphone-crashes-into-lamppost-survives/

not an iphone, but on par with phone abuse:still works....as well as a storm can work.
4/14/2010 7:52:50 PM
haha. I love it.http://wikee.iphwn.org/howto:rsbetaThey released a Jailbreak for the 4.0 beta for the sole purpose of allowing jailbreak developers an opportunity to get their stuff updated to work with 4.0. So by the time 4.0 is released, all the jailbreakers won't miss a beat.

here's the [dumb] article i read: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1266476/Apple-iPhone-4G-New-mobile-released-June.html?ITO=1490another: http://www.i4u.com/article33111.htmlsource?: http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=8881

The holes on the side of the case line up with the current volume rocker and silent toggle.
4/16/2010 9:48:22 AM
ya think
4/16/2010 9:51:33 AM
^^ oh i guess i was getting hopeful
4/16/2010 9:53:48 AM
protip: If you want to be able to use sharepod w/out installing itunes, install the iphone configuration utility instead. It includes the same drivers and device service that itunes does, without all the itunes crap.
4/16/2010 9:58:28 AM
^^^ it so happens I do, and since a lot of people elsewhere were commenting on the possibility of that being an expandable storage port I thought I'd share.
4/16/2010 10:08:49 AM
dont like that case
4/16/2010 10:27:28 AM
Thats not the best photoshop/3d modeling I've seen. The edges are too defined on the beveled back. It would have been a better photochop had they just taken the iPad case and tweaked it.
4/16/2010 12:45:30 PM
^ Are you sure they didn't? My first reaction to those photos was "what a cheap looking iPad knockoff". For some reason the who thing just looks too big
4/16/2010 8:07:22 PM
^what gives it away for me that it isn't just a photoshopped iPad but instead a 3d model someone made is the back surface. the iPad is very smooth, doesn't have defined beveled edges like that.
4/16/2010 8:24:29 PM
I like the idea of a brushed metal back. Get rid of the plastic, and people can stop complaining about scratches.
4/16/2010 8:58:00 PM
As someone who's had a 1st gen and and 3rd gen iPhone, I can safely say my plastic backed phone has about 5% as many noticeable scratches as the metal backed 1st gen did. Those pictures up there have been confirmed as fakes btw.
4/16/2010 10:55:12 PM
figured as muchthey were suspect at best
4/17/2010 1:45:55 AM
The only thing I can say about the metal case over the plastic was that my signal strength is much better with the plastic. Maybe they changed somthing else but I figure it was all that metal.
4/17/2010 7:54:53 AM
the metal/aluminum case idea could be cool if done correctly but i dunno.. the first gen one really didn't hold up that well for me. at least with plastic the substrates are color matched so if you scratch it up you can't see a different color underneath
4/17/2010 8:51:15 AM
just discovered that 4.0 added a digital zoom to the camera. Works pretty well actually.
4/17/2010 12:04:48 PM
I've bricked my 2G iphone. Is there a way to unlock/jail without activating it through itunes first?
4/17/2010 7:02:05 PM
You should be able to boot it into DFU mode and restore and hacktivate it with pwnagetool. IIRC. It's been a while since I messed with my 1st gen.
4/17/2010 7:06:46 PM
I just restored it, but since it was unlocked before I got it on another computer, itunes won't recognize it. Anyway I can put itunes back on it without signing up for a plan?
4/17/2010 7:55:25 PM
4/17/2010 8:07:49 PM
is there a way to jailbreak a stock 3G with 3.1.3?
4/17/2010 8:16:08 PM
^^ ok, I was reading that you have to have itunes activated on the phone before you can use any programs like cydia or pwnagetool.
4/17/2010 8:19:14 PM
^well, you kind of do. but that's what hactivation does. It takes care of that for you so you don't have to officially activate the phone through itunes.^^pwnagetool[Edited on April 17, 2010 at 8:25 PM. Reason : or quickpwn if you're on windows.]
4/17/2010 8:20:43 PM
cool, I'll let you know how it turns out.

doesn't seem like apple at all to mebut might just be because it's a prototype
4/17/2010 8:44:32 PM
On the floor in a bar.
4/17/2010 8:48:49 PM
someone got fired.i swear if apple doesn't bump the resolution to 800 by 480 and increase the screen size i'm switching to android. 480 by 320 is so like 1999. Every other nice phone has a larger screen and higher resolution.[Edited on April 17, 2010 at 8:59 PM. Reason : s]
4/17/2010 8:55:39 PM
doesn't look as nice as Apple's released products
4/17/2010 9:11:05 PM
agreed.. although if they were just using it to primarily test whatever hardware is in the thing for now then yea, i could see it. adding a new case isn't exactly rocket science or THAT expensive
4/17/2010 9:26:33 PM
it looks a bit more pedestrian to me. all of apple's recent products have a particular style design to them. that device above looks like it could have been made by HTC or a knock-off manufacturer
4/17/2010 9:39:03 PM
doesn't look like an apple design to me at all (prominent buttons, seams)That being said......I really wouldn't be surprised if these are real photos of a test/prototype unit that allows for easy access to the innards.I bet you the general form factor is what we will see in the iPhone 4
4/17/2010 9:43:01 PM
the thing is... if you DID have seams and so forth here, it could suggest that Apple is considering user-replaceable batteries. that would certainly quell complaints from a few people in Tech Talk.

did you change the link, or did the twitpic user delete it?
4/17/2010 9:55:24 PM
wow was just deleted......someone rehosted it on imageshack
4/17/2010 9:58:39 PM
the sides remind me of the moto q
4/17/2010 10:02:58 PM
^^ so now we have to wonder if the user deleted it, or if Apple issued a takedown request. if it's the latter... whoo boy.
4/17/2010 10:07:41 PM
they're saying those pictures were tweeted back in feb of this year...http://twitpic.com/14ge1m
4/17/2010 10:53:43 PM
ha, it looks like one of those foreign knock-offs.
4/18/2010 11:02:43 AM
That reeeeeaaaaaaly does not look like an Apple product.
4/18/2010 11:42:24 AM
Chinese knockoff. Dead giveaways are the 80GB storage, the seams, the "new OS", on the second set of pictures the "Apple logo" isn't an apple, the "XXGB" and the fact that prototypes don't have FCC certifications.
4/18/2010 12:03:38 PM
Also interesting that everyone here knows what an Apple product should look like.
4/18/2010 12:08:03 PM

is there any talk of this thing having an LED somewhere to notify you that you missed a call or text?
