This is likely true but it also cuts both ways. I’m guessing quite a few who died never get tested so aren’t officially recorded as dying from COVID-19. Though I suspect the denominator (those who get it, recover and were not tested is much, much higher).

They shut down the whole country early enough.

No one other than them really knows how many actual cases and deaths they had, as there are many indicators that their official/reported numbers are not to be believed, but right now they seem to have gotten over it more it less, with just a few cases happening per day. Again, if you believe them.

For better examples, see the curves for S. Korea and Japan. They can be believed.

Latest data for countries with >= 1,000 total cases.

I last made the list on Mar. 23 (page 12). US cases have doubled since then from 40k to 80k, surpassing Italy to becoming the country with the 2nd highest number of cases. As I type this, the number of cases must have overshadowed the official Chinese figures. Refreshed data site before hitting Post Reply!, and yes, it happened, so I updated the list. Refreshed again in a minute and another increase.

Number of countries in list has gone from 26 to 34 since Mar. 23.

I really hope this thing does back off a bit with the warmer weather but Fauci said they simply don’t have enough data to conclude it will. Though he has said if it does then we will likely see a relapse in fall.

The potential for rural areas to get hit is terrifying. Sure, population density is lower but they have basically no infrastructure in place to ramp up to handle this. IF it does spread the numbers we see will be hard to take and when you see the governors of MS and AL say what they are saying it appears negligent.
