Every time they showed the ACC standings tonight[Edited on February 25, 2018 at 9:27 PM. Reason : Always a pleasure to see it plastered on the Tv]

Top 25 this week?
2/25/2018 9:50:27 PM
Va Tech and Miami both received votes in this week's polls, despite being lower than us, and FSU was #25, so we should at least be getting votes. Just beat Ga Tech and Loserville and we're ranked.
2/25/2018 9:58:22 PM
I hope we stay unranked and then steam roll through the acc tourny and make a deep run through the NCAA’s. Would be good to listen to all the national “experts” say where did this team come from.
2/25/2018 10:49:40 PM
read on twitter that this is our first 4 game ACC win streak since 06++++++cred

I can't remember, was the fan base this high on Gottfried when he exceeded first year expectations and we made the tournament? I believe it's clear that Keatts is the real deal, so I'm not trying to draw a comparison between Keatts and Gott, just the fan base reaction to them both as first year head coaches.

^^https://brentroad.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=611089(sign of the times for TWW, that thread was 50 pages at this point in the season!)I think expectations were much higher for Gotts first season. He got a super full cupboard with an almost NBA level PG and some other high level players.
2/27/2018 12:26:40 PM
Yeah, I had forgotten what good coaching looked like. The contrast between Keatts and Lowe/Gottfried seems so obvious now. Watching the Wolfpack Hustle episodes may be indoctrinating me some too but I don't mind it.
2/27/2018 12:31:32 PM
We also had CJ Leslie and a bunch of REALLY good players that we thought Gott could do a lot with...turns out there was zero development there.Expectations were high, but it seemed like Gott always just got hot at the right time of year.Keatts has set the bar a lot higher.
2/27/2018 12:37:41 PM
many fans were just as high on gottfried in november of 2016[u]
2/27/2018 12:43:23 PM
No idea who that is^ got them blocked but for comparisonGott was 9-7 in ACC his first year, never ranked and lost to UNCheat by 2 in the Semifinals of ACC tourney. Beat San Diego St. Georgetown and lost to Kansas in NCAA tournament.
2/27/2018 1:04:56 PM
^^Nah, most were at minimum pretty pissed about the constant transfers over his years even if they were optimistic about what DSJ could do. Then we shit the bed in the ACC.There is always the first year optimism for any coach, but I think it's pretty clear Keatts has done much more with less than Gott. [Edited on February 27, 2018 at 1:06 PM. Reason : d]
2/27/2018 1:05:14 PM
If anything...this just shows how fucking terrible Sidney Lowe was. He made Gott look like a really good coach (had me fooled for a bit).
2/27/2018 1:05:43 PM
that red sport coat tho
2/27/2018 1:13:59 PM
I agree on the set the bar much higher comment. Gott's teams were never composed. Keatts has managed to do a lot more with a lot less because he actually has developed certain players IMO. Just look at the improvement by Yurtseven this year. I think state fans were cautiously optimistic that Gott can get us to being a tournament team because of his final four appearance and recruiting potential but he was never a good coach and players never seemed disciplined. I personally said making the NIT would be a good step forward and we did a lot better than that. With Keatts I think the expectation is that we have a young coach that has massive potential to be the next big thing in college basketball. Lets give him time and see where he can take us. We have progressively gotten better as the season has gone on and that to me speaks volumes. That said Gott's teams could certainly turn it up in the tournament.

I feel the same way about an ACCT run--especially if we can get the double bye. Probably helps that there are no unbeatable teams in the ACC this year.
2/27/2018 2:38:07 PM
well no team was ever unbeatable but uva is the least beatable acc team in recent history[Edited on February 27, 2018 at 6:10 PM. Reason : $-1]
2/27/2018 6:09:01 PM
UVA shows us every year that the only thing you need to beat them is an officiating crew that doesn't let them play their brand of (foul) defense
2/27/2018 8:25:11 PM
I agree on the point about the ACC Tournament. I think this is legit our best shot at it. Win the next two and we only have to play 3 more games to win the whole thing. It certainly doesn't mean I expect to win it but man I can't remember having a better shot in my 10 years as a state fan. Perhaps the semi final where we got robbed by the refs but even that was tough since the team was undoubtedly fatigued down the road.

2/28/2018 7:08:36 AM
^^They usually lose because of offense because ACC refs who study their tendencies allow them to play a handsy, reach-in filled, bodied-up defense that other ACC teams get regularly called as fouls. The ACC refs don't have a conspiracy to help anyone specifically, but because they choose to study teams behaviors and let their "tendencies" affect the way they referee Bennett has managed to create a team that gets a lot of leeway on defense because he's branded his team as super defense oriented. And when you take that away, a la the NCAA tournament, UVA never does all that well.
2/28/2018 9:31:09 AM
thats not true either. the worst thing uva has done in the tournament is lose to final 4 teams with hall of fame coaches. according to you, theyd be losing to friedman college in the opening game[Edited on February 28, 2018 at 11:51 AM. Reason : they shot 6% from 3 in one and lost their leader in another]
2/28/2018 11:49:14 AM
I remember when Earl was hyping up UVA's Elite 8, while shitting on State's various Sweet 16s
2/28/2018 2:28:42 PM
Keatts media day before heading into the next two games. Also shares some of his thoughts on the “one and done” rule. I love this guy!https://youtu.be/fhw6RajlwZQ

He makes some good points.
3/1/2018 10:20:58 AM
If UVA wasn't the #1 team in the country, Keatts would have a really strong chance at winning it. Let's see if we actually win the next 2 before we start handing out any awards. UVA is a lock to finish 1st in the ACC, we might not even finish top 5(and thus would end really any argument Keatts would have).
3/1/2018 10:35:39 AM
I agree, but my original statement included the 3 place finish as a caveat. I get it, Bennett will get it, but Keatts should, if we finish 3rd.
3/1/2018 1:40:30 PM
I would like to see zone at times when opponent so easily gets to the rim.[Edited on March 1, 2018 at 10:02 PM. Reason : Don’t think we’ve gone zone all year so I know we shouldn’t expect it]
3/1/2018 10:01:29 PM
Seems like that's a risk of playing a 4 guard lineup
3/1/2018 10:02:05 PM
RPI 61 after that loss
3/1/2018 10:03:30 PM
^^ yeah. And Beverly, who had another good offensive game, just couldn’t do anything on defense. That’s just what you get with him.
3/1/2018 10:07:31 PM
Well now we're in some deep shit after that Virginia/Louisville ending
3/1/2018 10:15:09 PM
^why?
3/1/2018 10:28:29 PM
Anything outside of the double bye ain’t winning the acc tourney. So if we aren’t finishing 3/4, it barely matters. We should have already done enough to make the ncaa tourney regardless of the ul game on Saturday.
3/1/2018 10:48:48 PM
a non-double-bye team has to win it eventually
3/1/2018 10:59:21 PM
we have to win another game to make the tournament. its ridiculous but theres no way we're safe with the way rpi is looking[Edited on March 1, 2018 at 11:01 PM. Reason : k]
3/1/2018 11:00:48 PM
^ pretty ignorant statement
3/1/2018 11:28:15 PM
didn't Duke win last year without the double bye
3/2/2018 12:27:34 AM
apparently sohttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_ACC_Men%27s_Basketball_Tournament

The best I can gather after the damage has settled is that we're still safe as of now, and probably still would be after the Louisville loss (might be in Dayton territory). I don't see any way we're in if we lose out. And just winning one in the tournament is dicey, if our run there goes something like - beat Georgia Tech, lose to another bubble team I think that'd put us right on the cut line and then you're reduced to arbitrary whims of a bunch of old fucks who hopefully watched the first UNC game.
3/2/2018 5:04:16 PM
^ Seems accurate in my opinion but what do I know
3/2/2018 6:17:37 PM
On the other hand, beat Louisville and it's pretty much a lock. There's probably a series of bizarre events that includes a loss to Wake Forest and a bunch of bid stealers that could still screw us over, but I think that's pretty remote.

"What do you guys call it, that NC State stuff? What is that; I don't know what that is. Right now we've been able to stuff the stuff. I would love to not hear the NC State stuff anymore after this regular season."
3/3/2018 8:58:53 PM
Loved him having the seniors speak after the game great regular season far exceeding my expectations
