A friend of my cousin, who's in the know and lives in Nevada, said Steve Alford is going to shop around for opportunities since his son is going to the NBa

Wilmington has been having off and on bball success since they got rid of Mel Gibson. I'm not shitting on Keatts, I'm just questioning the opinions that UNCW and Keatts are elite compared to Moton and Central. Both of them are on the same level to me, and they both should get a shot at a bigger school somewhere to show what they can do. I'd rather get a more proven coach, but I don't see the great disparity between those 2 coaches.
3/6/2017 12:14:55 AM
yeah i don't get the shoe contract stuff....but it seems to matter a lot.
3/6/2017 7:03:17 AM
^and despite my long post, it's prob only a small point in Keatts favor, but a point nonetheless. Being with Adidas may make contracts easier too, but that only helps Debbie, not us. ^^Nobody thinks UNCW is "elite."
3/6/2017 7:33:23 AM
Keatts comes from a real coaching tree (Pitino) and has spent time learning at multiple places / systems. He's won his conference each year that he's been a coach (including the tournament in the second year). CAA isn't exactly a powerhouse conference, but it's certainly better than the MEAC. Moton has more years at the helm, but he has only coached under one person, who wasn't notable at all. He did win his conference twice and looks to win it again this year. He won his conference tournament once. Lavelle did advance to the second round once, whereas the best Keats has done was first round both times (I'm not sure why UNCW played in the CIT after winning their conference Keatts' first year). Moton's teams are statistically better defensively, but Keatts' teams are much better offensively (top 25 this year). They're both up and comers, but Keatts has the edge imo.

I don't think UNCW being an adidas team has ANY impact on this.Shoe deals matter more for lesser regarded recruits than they do for elite talent. But they help with getting in with recruits earlier. That's one reason I hope (and think) State will never be a Nike school. That makes us a little different than UNC/Duke and gives us an in with some recruits that they don't have.Regardless, recruiting is the least of my worries in a new coach. Hell, Lowe came in with ZERO experience with any facet of the college game/recruiting and only Larry Harris with any high major experience and recruited pretty well. Any of the guys mentioned here could recruit at State. I could probably recruit at State.
3/6/2017 9:54:12 AM
Keatts coaches Lo Brown at Hargrave as well. Speaking of Wikipedia stalking... why has Lorenzo Brown had like 6 contracts voided for failing physicals??? Is that a tactic to get out of contracts when something bigger comes along?
3/6/2017 10:06:07 AM
New Pack Pride premium article mentions Ed Cooley (Providence), Rich Pitnio (Minnessota), and Scott Drew (Baylor). Cooley is pretty damn impressive.
3/6/2017 10:42:08 AM
Wut.
3/6/2017 10:47:40 AM
Keatts is a decent lottery ticket. UNCW is a lower end mid major so its not a guarantee he would translate by any means.Moton is like hiring the Oak Hill coach. Coincidentally, Keatts was already a top end prep coach for a number of years

Y'all trolling with the Moton love? Just curious, because...I mean there's no way. (I kinda get it if you're going for an anti-Keatts argument, but you really can't be pro-Moton..)[Edited on March 6, 2017 at 1:06 PM. Reason : h]

You guys:Wade Ave. is followed by Hillsborough St. and Western Blvd. The stadium complex is off of Wade Ave.There is a DIRECT CONNECTION from WADE AVE. to the STADIUM COMPLEXWILL WADE TO NC STATE CONFIRMED?!?
3/6/2017 1:11:49 PM
Apparently the Winthrop coach may be on the radar fairly strong. At this point I think(and this is without any knowledge of who is on the list) its Archie, Will Wade, Frank Martin and Winthrop coach.Frank Martin seems like a wtf hire but the SC Athletic director will likely be our next AD...so that makes some sense.[Edited on March 6, 2017 at 1:15 PM. Reason : pure speculation on who]
3/6/2017 1:14:02 PM
Frank Martin is an asshole. Which is a plus.
3/6/2017 1:18:40 PM
what makes you say Ray Tanner will likely be our next AD? i know he went to State and is from Johnston County...but is there any real information you're going on or what?
3/6/2017 1:25:30 PM
3/6/2017 1:28:54 PM
I think Frank Martin's history of burning his AD will keep him off the list.
3/6/2017 2:23:26 PM
that's pretty interesting about Ray Tanner being a potential replacement for DY.
3/6/2017 2:28:47 PM
I think we should hire Rich Pitnio from Minnessota
3/6/2017 2:30:57 PM
I think Gamecock fans would be fine with Tanner leaving. Apparently he hasn't done much as AD.
3/6/2017 2:42:25 PM
yeah, i have no idea what his reputation is as AD...obviously he was their baseball coach for a long time.
3/6/2017 4:48:05 PM
Keatts is on CBSSN for the conference title game at 7pm, if any of you actually still pay for cable/satellite like the rest of us[Edited on March 6, 2017 at 6:38 PM. Reason : .]
3/6/2017 6:37:52 PM
whats Pitnio's buyout? I mean, ... if it is reasonable...
3/6/2017 6:47:27 PM
Pitino's resume isn't really impressive at all. but he is having a good year this year. i guess he could turn out to be a great coach and obviously has good family pedigree, but he hasn't done much to prove himself so far.
3/6/2017 7:22:10 PM
UNCW putting it to em!
3/6/2017 9:01:14 PM
Off the Martin rumor now, it's not happening. He has a subpar history according to the background report and he's got a losing conference record in the SEC. Yow won't put up with either. The AD at USC will still move to State though.Gotta think she's looking a coach in that type of situation though...Quality long term coach that can establish a long term system.

Thad Matta returning to OSU for what it's worth.http://packinsider.com/2017/03/07/matta-returning-osu-open-door-archie-nc-state/
3/7/2017 9:36:02 AM
so now the only competition (at the moment) appears to be Indiana, unless Archie uses both teams for a raise
3/7/2017 9:38:01 AM
is indiana definitely making a change?
3/7/2017 9:59:06 AM
I see Gregg or Holtman to IUThis bodes well for us unless Archie just decides to stay. I think Dayton losing in round 1 would help put some urgency on the situation.
3/7/2017 10:56:34 AM
obviously archie might just not wanna come here...but it's easier to sell the nc state job when you're main competition is the dayton job. a lot harder to win if/when we were making our sales pitch to him vs Ohio St or IU
3/7/2017 12:52:09 PM
Do we want Archie if he doesn't want to be here?

If anyone in the national media gives us shit for firing Gott after this game I guess they just really do just have it out for us.
3/7/2017 1:44:23 PM
3/7/2017 1:52:28 PM
Fair point.
3/7/2017 2:28:17 PM
i get your point...do we want Archie if we're his back up plan? i think it's a legit point to make if you think there's a chance he'd just jump from State to Ohio St as soon as that job opened up in a couple years. on the other hand, if you're otherwise sold on him as being the best fit for the job and you think he'll be successful and he is willing to take this job if offered, then i think it doesn't matter if he was holding out for OSU or IU or whatever.
3/7/2017 2:37:44 PM
Its a much easier time to find a good new coach when one leaves for a better job than having to fire one and conduct the search.
3/7/2017 2:44:09 PM
^thisand even if we're his second, third, etc. choice it doesn't matter. would y'all have gone to Duke if you had gotten in? probably, but it doesn't make you any less of a State fan (except Stinger ). I think if he comes back to his alma mater he's gonna stay and if he does leave for something else, presumably he'll leave the program in a better place then when he found it. Just getting him here is a win for State.
3/7/2017 2:54:45 PM
^ this
3/7/2017 2:55:37 PM
yeah, i mean...if he's the guy Yow is totally sold on and he wants to come (even if it's only because OSU isn't open) then you take him.
3/7/2017 3:09:30 PM
I'll play the hypothetical game... IF he were to come to State I wouldn't worry about Archie leaving in a few years if the OSU job opens up, because one of two things will have happened at that point:1. Archie has been successful at State and he's in a great situation with proactive raises/contract extensions and tremendous upside (i.e. Roy and K that much closer to retirement). If he's built a successful ACC contender, recruiting will be that much easier and the success snowballs. Why leave a good situation in the best conference, at your Alma Mater no less?2. NC State Shit prevails, Archie is unsuccessful here and his stock has lowered to the point where he is no longer atop OSU's list.

Consensus after ACCT is that Debbie let Mark coach the rest of the season and not any assistants is in case the team caught fire in the ACCT and made a run with the new assistant.Debbie wanted to wash her hands of this coaching group completely.
3/7/2017 10:55:13 PM
That's giving her too much credit. I think she just generally liked Gottfried and granted his wish to finish out. [Edited on March 7, 2017 at 11:11 PM. Reason : Y]
