saying "cops' lives matter" is like saying "the sky is blue"

of course they matter - the whole fucking system is built in a way that tells us that cops' lives are the ONLY thing that matter

it's not even in the the top 10 most dangerous jobs yet these pussy ass pigs are empowered to fire their weapons anytime they get a little scared

fuck these pussy cops, fuck the shady cops, and fuck the "good" cops that protect the bad ones

Im just sick of police, and police advocates treating the issue as some sort of a zero sum game.

Like either you can support Black Lives Matter, or you can support the police. There is no room for both.

Or like, you can decy abuse by police, or you can support the police. There is no way for the police to do their jobs correctly without the unfettered ability to do whatever they want without being held accountable.

Or like, you can believe that certain groups are systemically targeted for profiling, arrest, and incarceration; or you can believe that all police tell the truth at all times and operate entirely within the constrainsts of the law. You absolutely have to believe everything that leaves a cops mouth, because he said so....anything else is supporting the death of all cops.

It is fucking ridiculous

Are there still simple cookie cutter ass folks on here who think some rite of passage of getting older is going from saying fuck the police to trust the police? Guise, we're in our 30s. Not trusting the cops isn't cool anymore, GROW UP.

http://www.wral.com/report-on-ferguson-unrest-offers-lessons-in-what-not-to-do/14872915/

Quote :
"The police response to unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, last summer offers lessons in how not to handle mass demonstrations, according to a Justice Department report that warns such problems could happen in other places roiled by mistrust between law enforcement and the community.
...
It details more flaws over the next two weeks, including the improper use of police dogs, armored vehicles and snipers to monitor crowds; the decision by some officers to remove their nameplates; arbitrary orders to demonstrators to keep moving after five seconds; and poor communication among agencies that led to confusion about which policy to follow and who was in charge. Even as rumors spread, police failed to use social media to distribute correct information that could have eased concerns, according to the report."

What about the response in Baltimore where the mayor and chief of police held back the national guard and the rioters still went around looting, pillaging, and burning down shit.

Shit would probably have gotten a lot worse if they reacted the same way in Baltimore that they did in Ferguson.

“The extent to which the co-operation of the public can be secured diminishes proportionately the necessity of the use of physical force and compulsion for achieving police objectives.”
-Robert Peel

Sorry cops, but, you didn’t get violent because I stopped respecting you. I stopped respecting you because you got violent.

From someone who's opinion I respect-

"Respect is earned. Act in a bad manor, and people will treat you as a thug. Police arrogance toward the public affects their attitude toward the Blue Line also. Individual fears of what a cop might do when he “just wants to talk to you” contribute, too. Fear leads to loathing. Arrogant, bad behavior cannot engender respect, though it will compel compliance through intimidation. One of the “myths” of American Policing is that “when a policeman tells you to do something, you must do it! This is the “Corporate” policeman exerting his (supposed) authority over the King’s subjects. However, there is little basis for this in statute, and none constitutionally. They have the power to detain/arrest you if they reasonably believe that you have committed a misdemeanor or felony (have you noticed that the list of felonies keeps expanding?) but have no authority to “tell you what to do” as they believe (and they would have the public also believe). Where they manage to win, is by charging you with “Obstruction of Justice” which gets plead down to “disturbing the peace” and results in a conviction because John Q. Citizen can’t afford the legal horsepower necessary to defeat the resources of “city hall." The ONLY body with CONSTITUTIONAL authority to maintain public order is the Militia (which, according to original intent We the People constitute): See Art I, Section 3, which lists three duties for which we are all responsible, but which we (in our sloth) have abrogated to a Professional Army and Professional Police."

^^that's debatable. The rioters here were comprised largely of school-aged children rebelling for a day. A police presence got shown the following day, and the riots stopped.

Being a thug pays off!!! At least for one's beneficiaries!

I can see a wild block party with plenty of Purple Drank in the near future for Freddie's family.

I would rather have seen a settlement at 1/3 of this amount with the other 2/3 being money ear-marked for community enrichment programs to improve living conditions, provide education opportunities, and other social services to the members of Baltimore's blighted neighborhoods.

Every Baltimore tax-payer is the loser with this settlement.

I feel like this is kinda a skewed statistic. I'd be interested in seeing the fatal injuries per 100,000 of police within "inner-city" areas versus bartenders. For every cop patrolling the streets in Baltimore there is probably 5 cops in suburbia/small_townUSA/rural area

What is this alleged "false narrative" and "lies by the media" regarding cops getting killed? I would love to see an article/example.

The entire thing seems to be attacking a "Cops are getting massacred" straw man (In response to the news reporting a few dead cops I guess?).

Comparing "Killings by Police" to "Killings of Police" is a stupid comparison. It should be "Unjustified killings by police" if you want to compare and start the "us vs them" narrative.

I'm still trying to decipher what in the fuck the author was trying to say with #3 on that list, they tried to bring race into it but there is zero logic behind that section, I'm not even sure what they are trying to argue.

The last police officer to have a non-accidental fatal injury in Detroit, the most dangerous city in the US, was in 2012 (well one was 2013 for "related illness" but I don't know what that means).

Quote :
"Open letter from a Police Chief , this Black Lives Matter group is nothing more than an American born terrorist group brought on by the lie of the hands up don't shoot during the criminal thug Michael Brown incident. The FBI and other Government Law Enforcement groups need to step up and put a stop to this. The Government and blacks would not tolerate the White Supremacist group to march through the streets and call for the murders of a race of people and a group of public servants. I agree there is a race problem in this country. It is not brought on by police officer doing their sworn duty, it is brought on by the government, the President and his cronies Al Sharpton, who is a criminal tax evader (but has the support of our so called President), Jessi Jackson, Eric Holder and that ignorant S.O.B. Farrakhan who should be charged with solicitation for murder, lord knows a white man would be arrested for the same actions of idiot Farakhan. I am sure there are many hard working Black people who will agree with me. I have been a Police Officer for 35 years. I do not judge anyone by the color of their skin, but by there actions. A criminal is a criminal whether a police officer or any other profession. I will not state statistics because black lives matter do not care or believe proven statistics. I put allot of the blame for these cop murders on the media and the way they report police related shootings. There is no need to list or even state the race of a person shot by the police. It is more important to wait for the facts and report those. But and a big but that does not make money for these greedy media ass holes. When a black thug is killed by the police they are all over it as is Mr. Barack Obama. However when a police officer white, black or any race is murdered for doing his job the media is short with it's reporting or not at all. When a white person is killed by a black officer you hear nothing. Has our so called President spoke publicly about these murders of police officers by blacks, HELL NO he has not. Step up Mr. President, or step down because we do not need you. Has our Attorney General spoke against these murders, no of course not because she was appointed by Barack Obama. Now let me say this, and this is not a threat but common knowledge. I have instructed my officers to be vigilant, if threatened take appropriate action. If that means shoot a thug, then do it and answer for it while you are still alive not dead. Law Enforcement is fed up with this murderous society who want to take out those who protect and serve. Imagine if all law enforcement shut down for just 1 day. There would be murders, rapes, robberies, you name it. America wake up, all of you black, white, Mexican whatever you need the police, we do not need you. End this Black Lives Matter bull shit and start a movement that all lives matter. As for the New Black Panther movement who wants to kill whites and cops, go for it, we are ready for you. You take one of us and there will be 100 who will step up and end you. This letter is not meant to offend anyone, just the feelings of a man who has spent the last 35 years of his life serving and protecting, for what so a thug can take it or to be treated as a criminal by the very people I swore to protect. Let's get this around folks so maybe our President and the media will get a wake up call. Be safe all of my Brothers and Sisters in blue, not white, black, yellow or brown BLUE."

""I want to thank you all for your support. I was forced to retire or be terminated. I had to beg for a 60 day severance to feed my family. That was the thanks I got from those I thought were family, I was thrown under the bus for expressing my 1st amendment rights and speaking the truth and concerns for law enforcement. I want to thank all of the folks in Surf City for your support. It was my pleasure to serve you. Thank you to my officers for your dedication, I will miss everyone of you. I would like to apologize to my family for letting you down. I also apologize to those I have offended, that was not my intent. I have served proudly for 35 years without a blemish. I guess to some Surf City Leaders that has no meaning. I guess I will learn to eat beanie wienies for a few months. I love you all.""

I just saw that on waspo

I think it is pretty far flung to characterize BLM as terrorist, akin to white supremacists or others with a long history of violent intolerence. But mostly, it is kind of funny to see a police officer get smacked down by his employer for posting shit on social media which might cast the employer in a bad light (like what could happen to literally anyone in this country), and then cry about how his first amendment rights were violated.

I still maintain that many in the BLM camp are actually racist themselves (against white people), that many truly only care about black lives, and that the actions of BLM is counter-productive in many cases (for example the people that shut down the Bernie Sanders rally in Seattle then called everyone there a bunch of white progressive priviledged liberal racists). Yet comparing BLM to terrorists is a bit of a stretch.

I dont know man.... its hard to say it is not productive when the movement has gained national attention, started a national conversation, very well may be addressed in the 2016 elections, and has already caught the attention of the DOJ -- directly impacting police department policy in places like Ferguson, MO.

Yes since calling everyone "white, privileged, liberal racists" during a Bernie Sanders rally, "screaming burn this bitch down" after the grand jury acquitted the Michael Brown shooter, and razing dozens of blocks in Baltimore is just the sort of thing that helps mend racial tensions, reduce police brutality, and bring harmony to the land.
