My only hope is that when the article says it polled "likely voters" that means people who have voted in primaries a lot in the past i.e. old people. I am hoping that this amendment brings out people who don't normally vote and vote against it. I am also hoping a bunch of Ron Paul lovers out there are showing up and will add to the unprojected numbers of those who squash this thing.

I have a bad feeling that this amendment will pass. If it does, it will truly bring shame to North Carolina.

Every time I see it mentioned I think of that scene in Million Dollar Baby where the mom says something like, "Every time people in town hear about what you're doin' they laugh. They laugh at you."

There are handful of GOLO users on WRAL saying very asinine things under, what they think, is anonymity. Can we use this thread a little to learn more about these folks? I need some laughs.

If you don't see Amendment 1 on your ballot Call 1-866-687-8683 immediately.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/08/north-carolina-amendment-one-election-fraud_n_1499992.html

Quote :
"North Carolina residents are heading to the polls today to vote on a controversial amendment banning gay marriage, civil unions and domestic partnerships in the state's constitution.

The Courage Campaign and popular LGBT blog Joe. My. God are reporting that some residents are encountering what is described as a possible election fraud as they prepare to vote on Amendment One, which will act in addition to the state's statutory prohibition against recognition of same-sex marriage.

According to the reports:

All, we're getting reports here in Chapel Hill, Carrboro and Raleigh (which are base areas for us, e.g. anti-Amendment 1) of precincts handing out INCORRECT ballots. In North Carolina, 17-year-olds can vote in the statewide primary (e.g., for governor, etc.) if they turn 18 by November 6th. However, they CANNOT vote on Amendment 1 in this primary -- they can only vote for candidates -- therefore they are being handed ballots WITHOUT Amendment 1. That is proper election procedure.

The problem is, the reports we are getting are that people OVER 17 are also being handed these ballots WITHOUT Amendment 1 in what would normally be heavily anti-Amendment 1 precincts (Carrboro, Chapel Hill, Raleigh). We are working on testimonials from voters who have experienced this -- in the meantime, if you report on Amendment 1, PLEASE ask readers to call 1-866-OUR-VOTE if they experience this in NC, or know someone who did. That will enable the campaign's field team to investigate and correct this as soon as possible.

A number of high-profile religious leaders -- including Beacon Baptist Church Pastor Tim Rabon and Pastor Sean Harris of Fayetteville's Barean Baptist Church -- have spoken out in favor of the proposed amendment, and as The New York Times reports, recent polls of the state and an analysis of past ballot initiatives in other states suggest that the measure is likely to pass."

Found this gem on GOLO:

"I voted yes because I believe that our state government needs to legislate our morals"

A thousand public awareness campaigns will not change these people. They'll go to the grave with this hatred for people not like them.

Yeah, I have a few friends on facebook complaining about all the bickering amongst their "friends". I'm not really having that problem though. I think it's because I deleted all my "friends" that constantly posted bible verses and other religious vomit a long time ago.

^that's when you post all the other "sins" that are described in Leviticus, Deuteronomy, Exodus, etc. Every single one of us should be killed!! If for no other reason than doing some sort of work on Sundays. Exodus 35:2 prohibits that. Maybe we should amend our freaking consitution to ban any kind of work on Sunday? That's important, right?

they eventually fired the preacher at my parents' baptist church because he didn't think women should teach sunday school. apparently the preacher was just doing what god wanted, and the congregation really disapointed god. women should know their place, and should meet the backside of our hand if they try to tell us men what to do.

leviticus is creepy in general and would put everyone to death.

Leviticus 20:9

If anyone curses his father or mother, he must be put to death.

Leviticus 25:44-45

Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property.

People need to stop getting so worked up about this amendment.

If A1 weren't on the ballot gay marriage still wouldn't be recognized in this state, so it's not changing the current state of things.

And if anything, A1 passing will force this issue to be ruled upon quicker than normal, and you can rest assured the courts will not uphold it.

So stop whining about it, Christ it's so annoying to see this shit on Facebook constantly. Gay marriage will be legally recognized in NC. Not today and not tomorrow, but some day fairly soon.

So we shouldn't be upset that our lawmakers are spending all this time on such a ridicuolous issue, when we have all sorts of actualy important issues that are not being addressed?

We shouldn't be pissed that our tax money is being wasted on this, instead of being used for something that would be half-way useful?

You sound ridiculous.

^^ How much money do you think would be wasted on an amendment that recognizes gay marriage legally? Same amount. Doubt you'd feel like it was a waste though.

Maybe you missed the point, which is that A1 passing is a good thing, because it will force a quicker ruling on its constitutionality once and for all. And it will definitely be in favor of gays.

Apples and oranges. There is not a law already on the books allowing for gay marriage. If there was a law on the books and they made an amendment on it then yes, that would be a waste of money.
