hopefully Gottfried can talk some sense into him
4/12/2012 12:32:41 PM
Leslie is coming back.Between Harris, Amile and Young, if we have 2 of those guys on the team next year, our frontcourt depth will be solid. A little light at the 5, but we will have 3 skilled reserve forwards with upside, who can step in when Leslie / Howell need a break. Any meaningful contribution we get from Vandy and/or TDT will be gravy.
4/12/2012 12:35:29 PM
I still think that Howell is on the rise and on a path to be somebody great. He is one of the most intriguing aspects out of next season, because I really don't think that anyone else will develop more than him.
4/12/2012 12:37:31 PM
If leslie comes back and jefferson signs, I wouldn't have a damn problem with harris wanting to transfer. That pretty much eliminates him ever getting meaningful minutes here.He doesn't need sense talked into him.
4/12/2012 12:38:22 PM
I think Zo could but I agree that Howell could definitely develop into an NBA level talent.
4/12/2012 12:38:49 PM
Vandenberg just needs to teach him how to jump.
4/12/2012 12:43:35 PM
The more I think about it, I feel like Vandy is gonna come in and be a goddamned monster. Flame on...

shut it, volcom knows what he's talking about
4/12/2012 2:07:19 PM
^^ It's a bit of a reach, but Howell has phenomenal hands and a developing offensive game.[Edited on April 12, 2012 at 2:08 PM. Reason : sa]
4/12/2012 2:08:00 PM
Why couldn't Howell play in the NBA? He is strong, has good hands, has developed a good post game, and can rebound. He needs to learn how to shoot a consistent jumper but with another year of Gottfried, I don't see why he couldn't.I mean if Dennis Horner can make a team, why can't Howell? I'm not saying he's going to be an all-star but I don't see why it's impossible.
4/12/2012 2:21:09 PM
b/c he's a 6'7" 5
4/12/2012 2:23:10 PM
obviously, he wouldn't be playing the 5 and he's 6'8," 250lbs.
4/12/2012 2:25:28 PM
i think his 6'8" is a stretch even for basketball numbers.it's not impossible, but he's got a lot of work to do this summer on his perimeter game. like, a whole whole lot. and he has to get quicker. it's going to be really hard.]
4/12/2012 2:27:03 PM
at one point during our tourney run nbadraft.net had howell projected as a first round pick in 2013howell making an nba team is not that much of a stretch
4/12/2012 2:28:25 PM
I think his quickness has gotten alot better this past year.
4/12/2012 2:28:57 PM
4/12/2012 2:30:11 PM
it has, but he has a way to go yet.
4/12/2012 2:30:43 PM
Howell sticking in the league will probably be more about luck and opportunity than skill. There are hundreds of 6'7" guys with his skillset that come out every year. He's not the most talented, and he's certainly not the least talented. In the right situation, he could be a poor man's Dejaun Blair. But on a team that already has size, he's struggle to see the floor.
4/12/2012 2:56:10 PM
If he continues to do well and NC State stays in the spotlight, I think he has a good chance.
4/12/2012 3:11:06 PM
lol howell isn't even 6'7
4/12/2012 3:13:58 PM
if he does 12 and 10 next year and we make a a deep tourney run, I could see him taken in the second round
4/12/2012 3:14:38 PM
Time to start talking about rotations again? This is one that I am looking forward to, TJ Warren subing in for Wood TO GIVE:CJLRHTJWRPZO
4/12/2012 3:23:03 PM
racist
4/12/2012 3:24:03 PM
I could see Howell as a potential bench guy for a team that doesn't have much front court depth. He's an elite rebounder and I can definitely see that carrying over to the NBA. If he continues to develop that mid range jumper and works on his defense there is no reason he couldn't fit into an NBA rotation. With all that said though, it's much more likely that he goes on to average 15/10 for some euroleauge team.
4/12/2012 3:27:55 PM
Any rumblings who our Big Ten opponent may be? I'm gonna take a shot in the dark and say its Michigan.
4/12/2012 4:56:12 PM
i'll take it...michigan is going to be stacked
4/12/2012 5:29:53 PM
Yeah and I heard that if you beat Michigan then you are automatically a lock for the NCAAs.
4/12/2012 5:54:45 PM
Howell is likely not an NBA'er but he's got a chance. He's got the rebounding/size to be an undersized PF/C like Chuck Hayes or Dejuan Blair. He's actually got some ball handling and some perimeter ability. He'd have to develop his outside game quite a bit though and he'd have to get a lot better defensively.Steal rates and rebound rates in college is one of the best predictors of future NBA success and his steal rate is virtually the same as Leslie's and his rebound rate is higher.I think he COULD be a 2nd round pick with another solid season, whether that means he makes the roster I don't know just too many variables.[Edited on April 12, 2012 at 6:47 PM. can you plug his projected stats in the face algorithm and throw some numbers at us...you're not speaking my language right now

^^ indeed. Please post his O-rating and compare it to other big men.[Edited on April 12, 2012 at 7:18 PM. Reason : ^]
4/12/2012 7:18:31 PM
Richard Howell lives off points inside the arc. I doubt he gets those in the NBA.He doesn't shoot threes at all. That's his main weakness offensively.Defensively he is horrid. He is hopelessly short and has zero depth.
4/12/2012 7:20:33 PM
Most of Kansas' players this year were bench warmers last year, including Robinson and Withey. We gotta start convincing lottery picks to ride the pine.
4/12/2012 7:23:29 PM
Just so we're clear these aren't "my" algorithms. They've been developed by an acclaimed Econometrics professor at Stanford.
4/12/2012 7:54:05 PM
Damn.I enjoyed your posts more when I imagined that you created a bunch of crazy formulae and plugged every player's stats and minutes into the face algorithm.Kinda like how I enjoyed Slave Famous's posts a lot more when I thought he was a skinny black dude named Slavelle.
4/12/2012 8:15:24 PM
wow, I don't read this thread in a couple days, and I come back to find Painter is leaving. Did Coach Gott tell him to leave? (j/k, ) oh well, at least it's not CJ.
