Fingers crossed, but didn't they just lay off 7% of their workforce? And have a lot of debt payments now due, which they can't pay without additional funding?
2/1/2019 8:24:21 AM
They increased staffing like 30% last year, I think the 7% decrease was a profitability move.

That doesn't really make any sense, as Porsche is not developing anything at this time to compete with the Model 3. All their EV resources and money have been poured into the Mission E concept development and platform. Mission E is spawning a CUV and large sedan (Taycan, what a dumb name). Taycan will compete with the Model S, which is quite long in the tooth at this point.
2/14/2019 1:10:30 PM
all electric cars this gen (there's some last gen hold overs) are basically skateboards that can be extended in length to contain more batteries. the platform is the skateboard. competing with the 3 vs the S is just semantics about price point. porsche will never been in the 3 price range, but audi will, and the platform will be shared. all that said, no one is remotely close to tesla when it comes to charging infrastructure. the only way these new entries will stand up to day to day demands that tesla fulfills is with extremely large 400-500mi battery packs, to obfuscate the lack of charging network. as soon as you put a 150kW battery in a car, you're talking about an 80+k car
2/14/2019 2:13:58 PM
i've got a current model S 75d loaner while an issue with some panels knocking against each other is being fixed on my 3 -some big pros are quite a bit quieter on the highway / noticeably more comfortable suspension / better door handle situation - overall not worth the price premium over the 3 unless you need the extra room in my opinion or possibly if you do a ton of highway drivingdespite the 4.2s to 0-60 instead of 4.5s it doesn't feel as fast - maybe that's the extra weight or size - also much more noticeable front end lift under heavy accelerationthe interior feels a bit dated compared to the 3 in a few ways (not that it's necessarily dated compared to other cars though) - no storage in the doors - additional autopilot stalk - cup holders in a bad location - no storage under the center console armrest - additional steering wheel controls it's also been nice being key free for ~6 months now except when I have my wife's keyfob for the minivan when i drive it on the weekends - have to keep the loaner keyfob in the my pocket

^^ i don't think the Ses have gotten the newer fully integrated battery management system the 3s have.

I hope Tesla continues to do well. It's good for an American company to birth a successful car business these days. I just continually feel like they're trying to do too much at once and eventually the fuckups and short cuts are gonna cost them dearly.
2/19/2019 9:08:19 AM
part of me is sad I bought a tesla. tesla makes so many cars that I had on my "to own one day" list, completely useless. short of having a personal driver, I couldn't possibly enjoy driving any luxury car as much as the tesla. for commuting or driving in a real city with real traffic (not raleigh), there's no substitute. if you aren't in a position to drive >1g, no other car makes sense. 7 series bmwc63 amge39 m5panameraequusany cadillacany bentley any lexus ever besides the land cruiser and LFAany aston everetcon boring drives, your "spirited driving" is mostly limited hard acceleration up to maybe 80 and on/off ramps. with all the batteries on the bottom you have no body roll and with an electric motor, I have better acceleration than anything. the car even comes with giant brembos that rival those on my cayenne S

^^seems like your top priority is effortless acceleration. There are countless reasons to pick several cars on your list over a Tesla.

I'm curious to know why they decided to make it less attractive than literally the entire Volvo vehicle lineup.

the 35k tesla model 3 finally exists:https://electrek.co/2019/02/28/tesla-model-3-standard-battery-interior/what's interesting is they're upcharging for autopilot. it's not clear if the hardware is any different than the existing model 3.also, they're closing almost all the tesla stores and moving to online sales.
3/1/2019 12:05:20 PM
ordered my bare bones model 3 last night.on the sales thing, i think it is overplayed a little. the sales centers do seem almost useless or even detrimental to me. a major selling point of tesla is no pushy sales guys / dealership bs. Well guess what happens when you get a bunch of sales guys/girls in one place competing.. they get kind of pushy. they can't help it.
3/1/2019 2:46:21 PM
Are there any tax incentives left?
3/1/2019 7:05:41 PM
Currently the tax credit is at $3750 for a Tesla - half of the original $7500 available When you say barebones - the actual 35k one without AP / FSD?
3/1/2019 10:20:25 PM
barebones = $35k = black, regular wheels, standard interior, no AP/FSD.
3/4/2019 12:24:50 PM
I'm waiting to see what the Model Y has to offer once it's announced next week, but I am at least planning on ordering a Model 3 this year. Leaning towards the Mid-Range RWD with AP and FSD.
3/5/2019 10:51:21 AM
I've played with the idea of one spec'd just like that.
3/5/2019 8:55:46 PM
I think it is the best value for me. I may spring for white interior though.
