my point wasn't that San Antonio somehow breaks the mold. my point, is that if you are a fan of a small market NBA team, you really have no reason to ever get your hopes up. There's just too much going against you. Why should anyone be a fan of the Bobcats, if there is virtually no chance of them ever winning an NBA championship? I've long thought that the lack of parity is a problem in the NBA, and this just reinforces that.[Edited on July 9, 2010 at 4:27 PM. Reason : I still refer to charlotte as the hornets...ooops]
7/9/2010 4:25:19 PM
Bobcats will never win, but its fun to follow the team. Championships are overrated by most fans. People want something to entertain them and take their mind off the rest of the pathetic shit in their lives. The recent Suns never won a title, but I bet everyone in Phoenix had a great time rooting for them over the last 5-6 years.Championships matter a lot more to players.[Edited on July 9, 2010 at 4:28 PM. 7/9/2010 4:28:08 PM
sure you have a reason to get your hopes up, one player can make a difference. Kevin Durant allowed OKC to hang with LA in the playoffs. Lebron leaving has nothing to do with the market and everything to do with a clusterfuck of management
7/9/2010 4:29:07 PM
You can be a fan of small market NBA teams because half the league makes the playoffsEven .500 teams get a taste of "success"

Yeah its like a lot of things in life...getting pussy is great, but the hunt/conquest itself makes it more worthwhileIf/when Miami wins their next title, it won't be AS sweet for Lebron as if he had won it in Cleveland, where HE was the man
7/9/2010 4:32:01 PM
What would you know about getting pussy
7/9/2010 4:32:33 PM
so everyone is in agreement that small market teams should only hope for the playoffs?and everyone is okay with the NBA essentially being a 6 league team?[Edited on July 9, 2010 at 4:33 PM. Reason : ]
7/9/2010 4:33:23 PM
The Bobcats will never win a championship because they use a lottery pick on Adam Morrison, it has nothing to do with them playing in Charlotte
7/9/2010 4:34:25 PM
They should hope for championshipsBut they should enjoy making the playoffsAnd they shouldn't burn their $70 jersey paid for with their factory job when their team's management loses their hall of fame hometown player
7/9/2010 4:35:26 PM
the Knicks are in the biggest market in the country, yet they won't win another title because they have an even more retarded front office than the Bobcats
7/9/2010 4:36:20 PM
I'd place my bets on the Knicks winning a championship long before the Bobcats. Yes, Isaiah fucked it up, but they'll get their act right sooner or later.[Edited on July 9, 2010 at 4:42 PM. Reason : oops]
7/9/2010 4:39:12 PM
Isaiah is no longer w/ the Knicks
7/9/2010 4:40:44 PM
This is about the 3rd or 4th time mls09 has been egregiously wrong in this thread todayOne, he says Shaq was traded to LA. Two, he says SA is a big market. Three, this with Isaiah.Soon, we're going to start giving you the Jt3Bucky treatment
7/9/2010 4:42:22 PM
mls09 is dead to me.
7/9/2010 4:44:19 PM
ahaha....the shaq thing was wrong (i was going by memory, not wiki on that one). the san antonio is the one small market that's been successful with the NBA (i thought that didn't need clarification, but apparently it did)... sorry, i'm not fact checking, here. and i still stand by my point that it sucks being a fan of a small market team in the NBA, and that accepting your lot and being happy with the playoffs is pretty harsh. i would think that a bunch of nc state fans could empathize with that, but i guess not.[Edited on July 9, 2010 at 4:55 PM. 7/9/2010 4:44:37 PM
the Jazz made a couple NBA finals and Salt Lake City isn't exactly a huge marketkeep in mind too that over half of the teams in the league are in large markets, yet the titles all still seem to go to LA, Boston, Chicago, Houston, San Antonio...with the occasional Detroit or Philly

going back and listening to post-game interviews by Lebron, its pretty amazing how egotistical that dude is. Its going to be interesting to see how the love triangle in Miami is going to work - especially once they come across some adversityalso, its fun to see all the comments made by NBA players, owners and analysts about Lebron leaving. Pretty wild how different their opinions are versus the posts in this thread. A lot of people are placing the blame on Lebron, questioning his competitive fire and loyalty (duh)

They've won two in the past 10 years, so have the Red SoxNo other team has repeated in that timeCompare that to the NBA[Edited on July 9, 2010 at 6:25 PM. Reason : The Astros, Rockies and Rays made it to the WS, Florida won it, that isn't happening in the NBA]

Contract details of LeBron, Wade & Bosh LeBron & Bosh sign 6 year, $110M dollar deals. Wade signs 6 year, $107M dollar deal.wonder why they didnt each just get 109
7/9/2010 11:58:32 PM
not gonna lie, i kind of really want to buy one of those lebron fatheads.
7/10/2010 12:55:21 AM
On the year breakdown, it looks like the 3 of them are going to cost Miami 43.2M this year and there's a 58M cap. With Chalmers getting a little over a million a year, they've got about 13.8M to sign 8 players. That should be fun.
7/10/2010 1:02:59 AM
i wanna ask Dan Gilbert if those LeBron fatheads come in Heat jerseys
7/10/2010 1:05:10 AM
If Lebron & Bosh have 6 year deals, it means the Heat traded for them
7/10/2010 1:15:20 AM
cant wait to get my fathead in the mail, for $20 you'd be insane not to buy one.
7/10/2010 1:17:15 AM
20 dollars for a big ass sticker is pretty damn expensive

Lebron lost some of my respect and likability when he threw the last 2 playoff games this year

Lebron has been a selfish, egotistical bitch several times in his career (listen to just about any in-game or post-game interview he has done over the last year or two) it was just overlooked because he makes up for it on the court. However, after the recent events and his poor performance in the playoffs last season, it is much easier to hate the guyin his interviews he seems to put the blame on everyone but himself, but then credits himself for every little thing that goes right. He even did some of it when he made his announcement to go to Miami when he said "I'm going to take my talents to south beach". he's so full of himself its sickening. My Cavs homer-ism overlooked a lot of it, even though I would still cringe when listening to his interviews over the last couple of years, but not anymore.
7/10/2010 10:22:12 AM
^ Most, if not all superstars are in that same mold. It shouldn't come as some surprise. Some players are better at putting out an image that doesn't showcase that side. It's why Durant is the golden boy right now.
7/10/2010 10:43:04 AM
Dwyane Wade isnt like that, neither is Kevin Durant, hell Kobe isnt even that bad anymore. Lebron is way more egotistical than most players/people I've ever seen - maybe thats just because I've paid a lot more attention to him than other players over the last few years. Michael Jordan was also the same way, especially in the peak years of his career
7/10/2010 10:57:38 AM
Wade is the other golden boy of the NBA...that's why he won in 2005. It was rigged for him from "Don" Stern. Kobe got better at not showing his egotistical side in front of the media. We all know he doesn't act that way when there isn't a camera on him.

Its good to know cleveland has the option to swap picks in 2012, ya know, JUST IN CASE MIAMI GETS A LOTTO PICK AFTER CLEVELAND WINS THE CHAMPIONSHIP.
7/10/2010 12:47:40 PM
This is just hilarious, Lebron has never been known as a particularly egotistical athlete. He's always been charitable, likeable, and has done a great job not selling out his teammates over the years when they continutally let him down.On the other hand Kobe has been just the opposite for the past 6-7 seasons and is openly hated by most of his teammates who he has constantly thrown under the bus.Now all of the sudden Lebron switches teams while he is a FREE AGENT i.e. not DEMANDING a trade when he is under CONTRACT and he is the self-absorbed jerk? You guys really need to get a life, I can understand all the self loathing and 13 year old girl arguments generated by the Cleveland fans but from the rest of you its just pathetic.
