^^^very nice. damn you, baseless optimism... damn you.
7/23/2010 1:40:17 PM
My only complaint is that there were no 2009 highlights.
7/23/2010 1:43:24 PM
i dont get why people are so down on this teamits a new season, who knows wtf will happendid anyone know Nate irving was going to be a monster his sophomore year? We just need a few players on D to step up. This offense can put up points, if we can get some stops on D we will be just fine.Irving and Manning are going to be monsters at LB, Lemon is a damn fine DE, Sweezy should be pretty good as long as he isn't punching old people, and our secondary HAS to be better. They can't be as bad as they were last year. i'm not trying to start a discussion that will inevitably lead to Mike Archer and getting raped at home by Duke, I'm just saying that if we don't lose 15 players to ACL injuries, maybe we find ourselves a player or two in the secondary and can be a middle of the road defense. Just don't give up just yet, that's all.
7/23/2010 2:00:12 PM
nonononFUCK THAT our D sucks, state sucks, dean smith sucks, cheese sucks, I suck, fuck it allgo to hell all of your optimism

I'm more optimistic about this year because of Irving coming back, Tenuta being added to the defensive staff and the fact that our defense has to improve. The secondary got a couple of good recruits, got experience last year and should be helped out if Tenuta can help the DL and LB's pass rush to take pressure off of the secondary. We lost some OL and DL, but we've replaced them with guys who should be good as well with Lemon/Sweezy/etc. on the DL and Crisp on the OL. I think Mustafa Greene could have a big season as a freshman RB, he'll have the opportunity.

Dennis Byrd, one of the greatest Wolfpack players in history, has died. His number 77 was retired in 2002 and hangs on the West side upper deck, being the only defensive player to hold such an honor. He was a two time All-American defensive tackle while playing under the legendary Earle Edwards. He was only the second Wolfpack player to be taken in the first round of the NFL draft. Roman Gabriel was the first. The Patriots took him 6th overall. To show you how great he was, during his first season of eligibility (remember that freshmen could not play back in the day) he received 1st team All-ACC honors. In fact he was the first player in Atlantic Coast Conference history to be named a three-time All-ACC selection. On December 7, 2010 he will be officially inducted into the National Football Foundation’s College Football Hall of Fame, becoming only the fifth Wolfpack player to do so. He was named an ACC Football Legend and inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame in 2007.

We lost another member of the Wolfpack family today in Kaye Cowher, wife of Bill Cowher. Kaye, iirc, played basketball here at State.

Although negative recruiting is not a NCAA violation, but coaches employing such tactics can still be reprimanded by the American Football Coaches Association. A BC assistant could face such due to an email he sent to a UConn commit telling him that their staff wouldn't be there in January.http://www.courant.com/sports/uconn-football/hc-uconn-football-recruit-0722-20100721,0,1919893.story

I hope R.J. Mattes will be recovered by the time the season starts. I'm sure Overgaard is good, but we need all the depth we can get.
7/26/2010 9:42:42 AM
I know nothing is ever certain, but I remember reading in the spring that the coaches/trainers thought he was progressing well.
7/26/2010 11:05:04 AM
yeah if byrd were healthy i would actually feel pretty okay with Smith/Byrd starting at CBbut no, of course not

Southern Pigskin gave us a top 5 ranking for ACC stadium atmosphere.http://www.southernpigskin.com/index.php/site/acc_venue_rankings_noise_level/ACC Venue Rankings: Noise Level1. Clemson - Many consider Memorial Stadium to be the premier gameday atmosphere in the ACC. Watching the Tigers run down the hill after touching "Howard's Rock" is an absolute must for any college football fan.2. Virginia Tech - Few fan bases get as rowdy as the Hokies. Though capacity doesn't compare to some other schools, Tech can be considered the Autzen Stadium of the east. "Enter Sandman" gets things stirred up. 3. Florida State - There is a lot to like about gameday in Tallahassee, but some consider the Seminole fan bases to be a little more laid back than others. For games against rivals Florida and Miami, Doak Campbell can get quite loud. 4. NC State - Wolfpack faithful are the rowdiest of the Carolina schools as they care a little bit more about football than their in-state brethren. Night games at Carter-Finely are extremely difficult for visitors. 5. Georgia Tech - The Yellow Jackets are well-known for their Thursday night atmospheres. The setting, in downtown Atlanta, is a great one and Tech fans definitely get loud when needed.

nothing wrong with that ranking

Tyrod over Wilson in POY voting?
7/26/2010 4:05:13 PM
I want to see what Amerson does this year. He's a 4-star player that we're adding to our secondary and with Byrd out for the year he could get an opportunity.
7/26/2010 4:08:35 PM
I was more surprised that Ponder won in such a landslideHe's good, but not that good

7/26/2010 4:23:54 PM
So Byrd and Smith are both gone? Does Greg Golden have any extra eligibility?

our secondary is like sorting feces based on hardness. this kid was one of the more solid turds in a pile of soft stool.i'd say a Type 3 player in a pile of Type 6 based on this link:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bristol_Stool_Scale[Edited on July 26, 2010 at 5:21 PM. Reason : .]
