Keep a box of real idahoan dried instant potatoes around to fix potato consistency. It can be key to getting a perfect duchess potato if you're working with low-fat chunky leftovers. It's also a good bread additive.
12/5/2011 12:30:21 PM
that's a great idea, thanks

12/5/2011 5:26:54 PM
i like to cook - i just know i'm not very good...LOL
12/5/2011 5:27:41 PM
okay silly question. recipe calls for broiling flank stank....if i don't happen to have one, is there another option that will give me a similar result? ]
12/10/2011 3:34:20 PM
don't have a broiler or don't have a flank steak?
12/10/2011 3:36:50 PM
if you have an oven, you have a broilerif you lack the flank steak, hit up the grocery store
12/10/2011 3:37:55 PM
lol wow wordsbroiler... i think that i have one, but i just need to find it.
12/10/2011 3:38:25 PM
it is in your oven
12/10/2011 3:39:11 PM
There's an option for "bake" and an option for "broil" on your oven.
12/10/2011 3:39:31 PM
lol, really? i meant the broiler in my oven. i think it's the slated thing. oy. i'm simple. i shouldn't be allowed to cook apparently. ]
12/10/2011 3:39:41 PM
do you mean broiler pan? you could just use a baking sheet
12/10/2011 3:39:54 PM
ah okay. thanks Meg.on another note - guess who's back?
12/10/2011 3:40:47 PM
broiling just cooks it from the top instead of the bottom. unless your oven is 50 years old, I can pretty much guarantee it has a broilerand yeah, if the pan is the issue then just use a cookie sheet and keep an eye on the drippings[Edited on December 10, 2011 at 3:42 PM. Reason : a]

have a turkey in the oven right now. rubbed and injected with a thyme, rosemary, garlic, and onion infused white wine sauce, and then painted with a little olive oil. stuff with a sweet onion and a few celery sticks, and covered with bacon on top of the breasts.my house smells crazy good.
12/10/2011 4:10:29 PM
ah, nevermind, prolly not safe for work, won't ruin this thread for decent folks.[Edited on December 10, 2011 at 4:13 PM. Reason : bacon boobies]

12/10/2011 4:15:11 PM
bout to make alton brown's baked mac and chee recipe minus onions, plus colby jack.
12/10/2011 4:41:11 PM
how can you honestly leave onions out of any recipe and still call yourself a man?
12/10/2011 4:50:19 PM
I can't eat onions. They really hurt my insides. Something to do with not being able to digest them properly. Could I chop some onions, put them in cheesecloth and cook with them and then pull them out and it still be decent? I know not everything would be the same, but like soups and chilis and such I think it might work.
12/10/2011 5:03:01 PM
shit, I wasn't thinking about the allergy or the bubbly guts situations.I have no answers to your questions
12/10/2011 5:06:21 PM
So I made this last night:http://www.laurenslatest.com/jalapeno-popper-buffalo-chicken-macaroni-and-cheese/One of the best things I've ever eaten. Highly recommend.
12/11/2011 1:00:14 PM
Elise, what I'd try to do in that situation is make onion stock, and add that instead of water.Basically, start with boiling water, adding some salt to help bring out the flavor. Then, quarter 2 medium-to-large onions for every quart of water you use, and add them to the water. From there, boil it until the onions are soft and basically slimey. Discard onions, and boom, onion stock. Best of luck! I'm allergic to bell peppers, but have learned to live without them, since I never really cared for them.

I need a 3-piece microplane setany B&M stores that I could find it at before tomorrow?
12/22/2011 4:00:26 PM
Bed Bath and Beyond, Southern Season, Belks, Macy's, Kohl's, Sears would all be places to check.
12/22/2011 4:01:55 PM
been to the B&M Target, Belk, BBB and Macy's -- no luckI'll check Sears and Kohls, but their websites aren't showing anythingSouthern Season is too far away
12/22/2011 4:04:46 PM
Call Williams Sonoma, they may have it in stock. There's also a "Kitchen Store" in Smithfield that you can call. It's a 40 minute drive, but may be worth it if you absolutely need it.
12/22/2011 4:06:40 PM
thanksforgot to mention that I went to United Restaurant Supply, and they only had one grater, not the full set

I got an ice cream cookbook for Christmas and I can't wait to try some of the recipes. Only problem is I don't have an ice cream maker. I'm guessing the gifter didn't realize that This is the book I got: http://www.amazon.com/Jenis-Splendid-Ice-Creams-Home/dp/1579654363/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_topReview look promising and some of the flavors sound awesome.
12/23/2011 9:39:27 PM
Do you have a kitchenaid? There's a really good ice cream attachment.
12/23/2011 10:00:59 PM
i cannot vouch for the kitchenaid attachment, as i have never used the ice cream maker. however, the attachments that i have had the misfortune of using made me yearn for the actual piece of hardware, sans mixer.i got this cuisinart ice cream maker for the gf, and while it was expensive, holy fuck does it do a damn good job. all the folks at RBC tailgates who have had her maple brown sugar candied bacon ice cream can attest to that.it does seem to be perpetually on sale, i think i paid about 80$ for it a few years ago.[Edited on December 23, 2011 at 10:29 PM. Reason : or maybe it was an xmas gift then, too. i think i might be giving too many kitchen related gifts :x]

SQUEE!
