Golovko you are just trolling, congratulations on finding a single remote place that has AT&T coverage.I actually leave my house on the weekends. I go skiing & traveling through the mountains quite regularly, all while on a MAJOR INTERSTATE. If you had GPS on your iPhone you'd know that you can use 3G all the time finding where to get gas & food, entertainment, etc. Golovko, I assume you've just run out of excuses to result to such trivial and lame ass comebacks now. The research was not addressed, except by 3 random 'presumptions' all of which only reinforced on why the facts are the facts. RIM by the numbers has a two-to-one advantage over the iPhone. Congratulations on sucking at rebuttals.[Edited on February 1, 2010 at 4:06 PM. Reason : .]

Now it's just trivial anecdotal "because I don't do it nobody does it" type of evidence. You guys are hilarious.^and hence why I use Verizon and Golovko uses AT&T, different carriers for different people. i'm just finding fault in their logic that because they don't travel outside where they live/work doesn't mean other people don't.[Edited on February 1, 2010 at 4:10 PM. rehash? no neodata brought back up the topic with his claim that iPhone was catching up to RIM, i was refuting that point again since it's clear he didn't see it the first time.trolling? no, i want to have a good back & forth debate on research based evidence, clearly something you're incapable of.[Edited on February 1, 2010 at 4:18 PM. facts on WHAT? WE WERE TALKING ABOUT RIM VERSUS THE IPHONE, NOT VERIZON VERSUS AT&T!!!it's quite obvious isn't it? they have the iPhone. those 3.1 new subscribers have no experience on AT&T, how are they supposed to know? even the mainstream media has picked up that some iPhone users are fed up with the service they get with AT&Tgood grief, what does your facts have to do with anything about coverage area?[Edited on February 1, 2010 at 4:25 PM. opinion:http://voices.washingtonpost.com/posttech/2010/01/at_the_worlds_largest_high-tec.htmlthe AT&T criticism is not a local minority, simply put, iPhone users are stuck in contract and/or don't want to drop the device simply because of the coverage or service.read any news article lately about Apple & AT&T, it's ALL OVER talking about how iPhone users (read: not other people) say how bad their service is.questions come up from Apple investors wondering if any network improvements are coming from AT&T.clearly people are concerned.[Edited on February 1, 2010 at 4:32 PM. ok, first of all that research was based on the last 3 months.the Droid only came out 2 months ago, along with now the Palm Pre & Palm Pixi (this month), along with the HTC Eris. Verizon in the last 2 months has quadrupled their smartphone offering. my guess is come Q2 2010 those numbers will change.
2/1/2010 4:34:53 PM
^^one other problem with your correlation is that it does not specify who is switching from where. are those 1 million new subscribers coming from Sprint? are they coming from Verizon? for all we know 90% of the new Verizon subscribers could be coming from AT&T, while 60% of AT&T new subscribers are just new cell phone users.it DOESN'T tell the whole story. you can't just say the numbers are up so there must not be a problem.[Edited on February 1, 2010 at 4:42 PM. 2/1/2010 4:41:00 PM
^^That's probably true. I still tether too much to want to deal with Verizon's slow 1.5mbit speeds on EVDO. Until they upgrade and offer more dual GSM/CDMA phones I couldn't imagine switching. haha that sucks for iPhone users in NYC. I'm glad I don't have that problem here.^true. I'm sure there's a statistic out there somewhere for that. Most people i know who switched to AT&T did it for the iPhone though. [Edited on February 1, 2010 at 4:42 PM. Reason : s]

LTE (4G) is getting rolled out this summer for Verizon, i'm not worried. If you are frequently needing it for business I can understand being on a GSM carrier, I just can't imagine why it's needed if 99% of your time is spent in the U.S.[Edited on February 1, 2010 at 4:51 PM. Reason : ,]

2/1/2010 4:51:57 PM
^^sure as hell beats picking a carrier based on what phone they offer.^based on what's announced, of course that can always change.
2/1/2010 4:53:40 PM
It sounds like you decided that the best choice for you was to find a carrier first and then choose a phone. I think its great that you know yourself well enough to choose something that satisfies your desires.
2/1/2010 4:56:35 PM
I'm on AT&T because I've been on a family plan on AT&T. I pay $45/month for unlimited data/text and roll over minutes. To each his own, but in my case what I'm paying and the fact that maybe once a month I might not be able to get my push email at a football game far outweighs getting a worse phone, halfing my download speeds, having almost no international coverage, and paying twice as much on Verizon. That's where I'm coming from.
2/1/2010 4:58:50 PM
^^well you know i do pay them for a service... and since that's 90% of the cost incurred over 2 years, it's really the logical choice.^it's all about what you use most. i'd say if you look at the number of people that max out their bandwidth, the number of people that tether, and the number of people that spend a MAJORITY of their time overseas, it's still in the minority. if GSM was really needed for a majority of people then CDMA wouldn't have the most subscribers in the U.S.also with LTE coming to BOTH Verizon & AT&T, when 4G gets rolled out the speed differences will be nil.[Edited on February 1, 2010 at 5:04 PM. ^^^^^http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/The iPad does support 2.1 Ghz UMTS.
2/1/2010 5:10:27 PM
Well when an android phone comes out that is more usable than the iPhone I'll consider switching. I'm just not happy with the Droid, or any of the other android offerings at the moment. That paired with the fact that none of my friends or I with the iPhone have any issues with AT&T. I thought this thread was about the ipad.
^^from the comments: "as I said in the story, the incompatibility is with the T-Mobile 3G network, which uses frequencies of 1.7 and 2.1Ghz. The iPad would work with T-Mobile on their GPRS and edge network, but not with 3G. The same problem occurs with the iPhone, so it is no surprise that the specs are identical."T-Mobile uses a radio frequency band (1700 MHz) for 3G connections that is unique in the world^^^Which I'm sure neodata & golovko have as well. What we're discussing (this may have gone over your head Solinari) is what a majority of people's situation and/or needs are. I'm sorry if you confused this discussion for something it wasn't.[Edited on February 1, 2010 at 5:19 PM. Reason : .]

at least it will stimulate the economy.i can't tell you how many times in the last month i've heard while flying, "please turn off all electronics, including ipods, laptops, and kindles..." i honestly never thought i'd hear "kindle" on an airplane. but i think it was like the hottest gift this Christmas, since then seeing at least 1-2 kindles per flight.while i don't think it will capture the low-priced 6" kindle, i think it will eat into the higher-priced e-reader market[Edited on February 1, 2010 at 5:36 PM.
