^why are you holding on to so many running backs that might not ever materialize? that seems like a weird strategy.I've got: Forte, R. Grant, R. RiceI can start two. Forte laid a big egg (4 points) for me last week. Grant wasn't that great either, and Rice blew up. Of course Rice was on the bench so it didn't help me.Of the three, which two do I start?
9/16/2009 9:43:21 AM
Grant plays Cincy (Gotta Start him)Rice plays @ SD (a little tricky, there...Is your league PPR?)and Forte...well, you have to play your 1st round picks in week 2.Forte and Grant once again are the plays.
9/16/2009 9:49:22 AM
Jonathan Stewart @ATLTim Hightower @JACAhmad Bradshaw @DALI didn't play Stewart last week and was glad I didn't, Hightower did alright for me, with 11 pts I think. Bradshaw though had a solid game against Washington and will share a lot of carries with Jacobs. What do you guys think?PS. Marion Barber is my other RB that I was planning on startingEdit: Now that I think about, do I really want to start a RB that is facing the Giants DST?[Edited on September 16, 2009 at 10:00 AM. This isn't baseball, you don't have to play your top picksyou play your best matchupsso it comes down to rice at SD or Forte vs PITI like Rice
9/16/2009 10:00:01 AM
K.
9/16/2009 10:15:38 AM
Where does the "you have to play your first rounders" philosophy come from? I'm not too worried about validating my draft picks to others, I just wanna win.Yeah, starting Forte against PIT's defense make me nervous. Especially after last week's debacle.

Yeah, but even if you drafted a guy FIRST overall, if he isn't producing, you'd be stupid to keep starting him. I get that it's only week two, but come on. You can't blindly stick with a guy just because you drafted him early.
9/16/2009 12:02:45 PM
like you said, its only week 2...its WAY TOO EARLY to give up on anybody worthy of a 1st round pickif your 1st rounder doesnt do anything a few weeks into the season, ok fine, go with somebody else...but ITS WEEK 2[Edited on September 16, 2009 at 12:11 PM. Reason : .]
9/16/2009 12:10:47 PM
Like the guy in my league complaining already about keeping Turner. I told him I could part ways with Cedric Benson(strong first week) if he wasn't sold on Turner, haha.
9/16/2009 12:15:59 PM
Cannot believe we are having this discussion in here. Thanks Twista for having my back on this one.If you drafted him in rd 1, you'd better be playing him until a trend or pattern of a lack of production is noticed.
9/16/2009 2:10:41 PM
Pantho and Treetwista are jaded hereIn Fantasy baseball, each matchup is comprised of 6-7 games...you start your horses each week, because over that period, they will usually outproduce everyone elseBut each football matchup is ONE GAME...it all depends on the matchupI have Forte vs Pitt or McFadden vs KC...Yeah, I drafted Forte several rounds earlierBut based on that matchup, I predict D Mac to produce better numbers, so I play himI drafted Forte high because most weeks, he will be in my lineupBut when he plays the likes of Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Tennessee, he will be on my benchNo one is talking about cutting him, just about not playing himFuck justifying my draft position[Edited on September 16, 2009 at 2:18 PM. Reason : x]
9/16/2009 2:17:08 PM
so you're playing McFadden...and who's your other RB that you're starting ahead of Forte???besides the point we're making isn't that you have to play your 1st rounder every single weekbut that if your 1st rounder has a bad WEEK ONE, you don't completely give up on him for the seasonplus, if you drafted say...Adrian Peterson in the 1st round...or Drew Brees...or Larry Fitzgerald...the only time that motherfucker should come out of your starting lineup is for their bye week
9/16/2009 2:21:57 PM
Yeah Forte isnt any of those 3and running backs are more susceptible to good defenses than qbs or recieversTho I would argue Peterson moves to fringe top 10 status against the 3 defenses I mentioned, if not further than thatStill a starter for most teams, but not an absolute lock
9/16/2009 2:23:54 PM
So who is your 2nd RB that you're playing over ForteAnd don't come whining in this thread when Forte has 67 receiving yards out of the backfield against Pitt[Edited on September 16, 2009 at 2:25 PM. Reason : .]
9/16/2009 2:25:08 PM
Portis vs the Ramsall about the matchups
9/16/2009 2:28:06 PM
I played Julius Jones last week versus StL's porous run defense over Jamal Lewis, who I drafted earlier, because of the matchupsBut again, the point is theres absolutely no reason to freak out if Michael Turner or Matt Forte doesn't give you 150 yards and 2 TDs in week 1
9/16/2009 2:36:06 PM
Rice vs SD or Sproles vs BALActually kind of leaning towards Sproles because of his return yards in addition to LT's questionmarks... Plus the split carries in BAL with McGahee and McClainAlso... Todd Heap is available and I really like him. I have Gates though. Would it be stupid to carry both Heap and Gates? Drop Gates, add Heap? Leave Heap on the wire?
9/16/2009 2:36:47 PM
I say Rice v. Sproles is a gametime decision...all depends on LT's progress this week and status for SundayI'd keep Gates and not look back
9/16/2009 2:41:58 PM
Tree, no one was arguing thatThis whole discussion was based off Panthro saying
9/16/2009 2:42:41 PM
you're sleeping on San Diego's defenseHe said between Forte, Grant and Rice, to play Forte and GrantObviously Pittsburgh has a great run defense, but does Forte's potential outweigh that? And fantasy leagues are often won or lost based on injuries...and mid season pickups...not just the draftBut at the same time, if you're leary about playing someone this early in the year when they're still healthy, maybe you should've picked a different player in round 1[Edited on September 16, 2009 at 2:48 PM. Reason : .]
9/16/2009 2:44:42 PM
Its perfectly fine to suggest Forte, but not for that explicit reasonTho I guess when you play in a league where half the people autdraft, you can pretty much sleepwalk to the playoffs[Edited on September 16, 2009 at 2:49 PM. Reason : x]
9/16/2009 2:48:29 PM
Maybe I should bench Drew Brees this week...look what Philly's passing defense did to Carolina!!111[Edited on September 16, 2009 at 2:53 PM. Reason : i'm now arguing for the sake of arguing]

9/16/2009 2:53:18 PM
fwiw, Yahoo projects Forte to get about 5 more points in a PPR league than McFadden, and about 3 more points than D-Mac in a non-PPR league (in week 2)]
9/16/2009 3:08:11 PM
I guess I'm just not 100% sold on Forte....even though I drafted him.Everyone was saying he's supposed to be great this year, but that remains to be seen. I'm thinking about starting Rice instead, but Forte will probably make me regret that decision.[Edited on September 16, 2009 at 3:12 PM. Reason : s]

Maybe I like San Diego's defense better than ya'llI also think Green Bay's defense is legit, its not like Forte got shut down last week by the Lions

9/16/2009 3:49:10 PM
PPR? that makes a huge difference with those guys.AS A RULE, GIVE BASIC SCORING SETTINGS IF YOU WANT THE BEST ADVICE(meant for everyone, not just you, crappy)
9/16/2009 3:50:43 PM
Just to clarifyWe're assuming 25 yards per point passing, 4 points per score10 yards per point rushing and recieving, 6 points per scorewith 1 point per catch being the lone difference for PPRunless otherwise noted
9/16/2009 4:14:13 PM
4 point for a passing score? I doubt you'll find too many people here using that. The default on every site I know of is 6.
9/16/2009 4:16:21 PM
Pretty sure 4 is the norm6 points makes the likes of Brees and Brady surefire first rounders, whereas in most drafts they're late seconds and early thirds
9/16/2009 4:18:39 PM
some PPR leagues give 1/2 a point per completion to QBsI think just saying "PPR" or "non-PPR" will generally be enough infoPPR? Faulk non-PPR? Tayloretc^6 is the yahoo default, 4 is the espn default, i thinkit doesnt put as big of a draft shift on QBs as you might think though...since lower tier QBs also benefit from those stats...RBs are still the most coveted[Edited on September 16, 2009 at 4:22 PM. Reason : .]
9/16/2009 4:20:30 PM
I believe 4 is the yahoo default as well, but every league I've played in has always changed it to 6. But anyway, back to the advice.Flex spot:Devery Henderson @ PHIPatrick Crayton vs NYGDerrick Mason @ SDDevin Hester vs PitNon PPROffense League Value Yahoo! tough call...i dunno...I'm leaning towards Devery but Brees has so many weapons...Crayton is a nice #2 wideout but New York's defense is pretty good...Mason might be the play...Hester might get concussed by Troy P

Pennington vs. Indy or David Gararrd vs Arizona? leaning towards garrarrd.Should I sart pierre thomas (questionable as of today) over kevin walter or antonio bryant at my flex spot?
9/16/2009 10:30:41 PM
first instinct is Pennington with Bryant at the flexmy only concern is that Miami will run the ball a lot on Indy's defense, limiting his numbers

9/16/2009 10:50:48 PM
^^ i think leon could have a big game. Look what fred jackson did to NE catching balls from the backfield. And Sanchez will probably be looking for the checkdown pretty quick with the way Belichick punishes rookie QBs.I'd sit Ocho Cinco. GB's defense will punish the immobile Palmer.TB's run defense is pretty awful (Dallas averaged almost 5 yards a rush) so think about Fred Jackson too.Just my two cents.[Edited on September 16, 2009 at 11:04 PM. Roddy White vs. CAR or Roy Williams vs. NYG?
9/16/2009 11:10:32 PM
^^^ definitely the first three.^ tough one there. ATL offense is looking to spread the ball around more so White wont have the stats as last year. But the Giants have an excellent pass rush so..... if its not PPR id go with Williams since Romo is pretty mobile. Otherwise White should make some catches but less chance of significant yards and TDs.[Edited on September 16, 2009 at 11:14 PM. Reason : ^]
