I have tried listening to the latest Appleseed Cast at least 4 or 5 times.... and it bores the ever living shit out of me.

haha. That doesnt entirely surprise me though. I love it, love them, but I can definitely see how someone would find them boring.

hey, to each their own.

Of course, I also said that Grizzly Bear bored me the first couple of times through, and now it's probably my album of the year thus far. Same for Andrew Bird's latest the first 2 times through, so, I'm not giving up hope on getting into them yet. I liked "raising the sails", I think it was (#6), but overall, I found myself skipping it to go on to another album.

Have you liked any of their past albums? I really enjoy this one but it certainly has a lot of downtime that could turn people off. Some of their earlier stuff can be a little more captivating.

Album of the year so far, for me, is the new Isis.

I really really love it.

Although there are some other albums that certainly warrant a few more listens.

Yep, new Isis is still my #1 right now too. As stated earlier I really love Sagarmatha as well. I've heard some solid EPs this year too but I can't count them the same (ie Look Mexico's EP is really fun but only 4 songs so I can't really compare it to full albums).

Kinda in the next tier down from Isis and Appleseed Cast I have really enjoyed Silversun Pickup's "Swoon" and omar+cedric+hella's "cryptomnesia" (though I think it would have been a completely badass record if it was more focused).

Super excited about: mewithoutYou, BTBAM, The Mars Volta, Telescreen, Sundrone, and sorta the new deftones and He is Legend

PS Ronny, if you havent heard of Sundrone its a new band with the vocalist from Codeseven. I've liked the little bit i've heard so far.

My guess right now is Oct/Nov. They finish mixing and mastering in early July.

yea, seeing them live would be great.

in other news, im not sure what to think of the new mwY album. It's definitely a good album, but coming from one of my top 3 current/active bands I can't help but be a little disappointed. I have been nothing but enthralled in the past upon first listen of a new mwY album but I am only moderately impressed after my first few listens. I have a feeling itll be a grower but I don't think it comes close to something like "Brother, Sister."

This album is basically entirely stripped of the elements I liked most about them:

- his normally powerful vocals were muzzled on this album with everything being so folksy
- Normally my favorite lyricist ever, his lyrics are disappointingly gimmicky on this album
- Chris Kleinberg's absence on guitar is glaring (I'm sure his departure is part of why they changed their sound up though)

With that being said, I'll restate that the album is still good and I'm sure it will grow on me more and be one of my favorites this year, but it feels more like it should have been an EP and its left me yearning for the more aggressive, passionate mewithoutYou album I have come to expect from them.

Haha, yeah I just went in hoping for a Sonic Youth 7" and overheard the cashier laugh because someone else was asking about them too. I did pick up the last Citay LP, Little Kingdom in ltd pressing of 180 gram vinyl.

so I had to give the new mwY as much of an unbiased re-listen as I could, accepting the fact that this album just isn't made to sound like anything they have done before. And I have to say that I really like the album for what it is. Listened to it several times through (5 or so) on the trip up to Raleigh this weekend and a few other times this weekend. There are still a couple tracks on the album that feel kinda like B-sides but the majority of the tracks I really like and a few I absolutely love. It is definitely growing on me by the listen.

The strings on "The Beetle King on the Coconut Estate" are absolutely phenomenal.

lots of in-stores shows and events, exclusive items for sale only in indie shops (mostly 7" and 12"), sales on other stuff, a bunch of free CD samplers, posters, and 7" singles

So yeah, was at sweat records in miami from like 9 to 1 last night. I don't know how big Rachel Goodrich is(i think pretty local), but she played in-store last night, she's great.

purchases:

from the rsd 'exclusive' section were Black Kids, Lykke Li 7", Camera Obscura 7", Radiohead Drill EP, and the RSD thing for spending $50+. Oh, and the Spektor I think

i said earlier last week that I wasn't feeling the new Dirty Projectors...well i take that back. XMU has started playing some later tracks off that album and i'm really starting to get into after getting a copy this weekend. I am such a sucker for girl pop vocal stylings ala Teagan and Sara.

Camera Obscura, PoBPaH, and Phoenix are wonderful as well. Actually almost all of those you listed have been great

any chance that someone could get this on mediafire for me? rapidshit sucks at my house.

edit -- shit, appears that link has been taken down -- i can't verify them at work, sorry.

i'll keep an eye out for a re-up if anyone else is interested.
