Watch Rivers' numbers take off now. His receiving cast of VJ and Buster Davis is underwhelming to say the least, which has allowed teams to stack the box and double-cover Gates. Chambers is the type of guy who can jump over people and snag the ball in traffic. Rivers needs a receiver like that.
10/16/2007 3:53:50 PM
rivers just did a backflip. chambers to san diego is great news for #17
10/16/2007 3:54:42 PM
Nice move. With Eric Parker going on IR, they needed a veteran at WR.
10/16/2007 4:50:46 PM
they should trade a 2010 5th round draft pick to the chargers and pick up Randy Moss - or at least put the offer on the table
10/16/2007 5:06:23 PM
Not only do you have a great first name...I like the way you think Charlie
10/17/2007 2:23:30 PM
^^^True. The Chargers don't have any one with as much experience dropping passes as Eric Parker.
10/17/2007 3:37:11 PM
LOL, I guess when you watch only 1 Charger game all year and it happens to be their worst performance, your perception of the team gets skewed a little.PS Eric Parker has great hands. The playoff game was an anomaly. Chris Chambers on the other hand... well, lets just say that he takes after TO sometimes.
10/17/2007 4:03:02 PM
http://stats.washingtonpost.com/fb/leaders.asp?year=2006&type=Receiving&range=AFC&rank=055Parker actually caught 68.6% of passes thrown to him last year, placing 11th in the AFC.That being said, I've seen him make ridiculous drops in more games than just last year's playoff debacle.
10/17/2007 4:09:09 PM
You're confused, or you're full of shit.According to NFL statistics, Parker dropped 2 passes during the regular season last year. For comparison's sake, Chambers dropped 8 and TO dropped 17.
10/17/2007 4:14:40 PM
First, those aren't "NFL statistics," because the NFL doesn't keep track of drops.Second, drops are an inherently subjective stat, because what one person interprets as being over- or underthrown might be considered a drop to another person.
10/17/2007 4:24:33 PM
Parker may have been productive for periods, but he definitely had serious issues dropping passes for the last 1/3 or so of the regular season and playoffs. I actually watched most of the Chargers games last year.
10/17/2007 7:19:40 PM
10/17/2007 7:31:34 PM
Turnip knows whats up. Not having Parker out there is one of the reasons that Rivers is struggling this year.
10/17/2007 7:49:40 PM
just focus on the good part of all of this rather than comparing. chargers have just made a huge move. with a more passing game threat, LT will be even better, Rivers will be even better, and then we win the superbowl [Edited on October 17, 2007 at 8:14 PM. Reason : l]

In all seriousness, drop statistics, especially percentage dropped is one of the most worthless statistics in football, which is why it isn't officially kept. Different receivers can see a completely different set of passes thrown their way, depending on their offense, the routes they run, the throws their QB makes, coverage they see, their role, etc. We aren't talking about free throws here.Example: Lets say Steve Smith catches 60% largely made of 30 yard passes or jump balls against a number one corner with safety help, LDT catches 90% of swing and screen passes thrown to him, and Eric Parker catches 70% on hitches and quick slants with the defense focusing on Gates and LDT. Who is the best receiver? Who has the best hands? Do those percentages mean anything at all?

This is what's important right?...
10/19/2007 7:20:06 AM
^Look at Randy Moss's numbers from last year.
10/19/2007 9:12:41 AM
^^Chambers runs deep routes. He stretches the field and also runs over the middle. Of course his catch % is gonna be lower than a possession receiver. He also opens things up for the guys underneath, because they have to put a safety on him. This will benefit Rivers and LT the most, forcing teams to back off the LOS lest they get burned.[Edited on October 19, 2007 at 12:07 PM. he's been sacked once, and it was by mario
10/28/2007 5:19:06 PM
ha, I wonder what mario said to him after the sack.
10/28/2007 5:23:03 PM
The sack was a coverage sack when Rivers didn't want to risk anything up 35-3.
10/28/2007 5:39:05 PM
Nah man, it was a gift from one NC State player to another.
10/28/2007 6:16:06 PM
