psh greedy!I didnt even get her a carat But I mean, I have a lot of stuff that needs to be bought for my guitar rig
12/2/2008 12:43:21 PM
what? i priced it out on bluenile and it was only $4680
12/2/2008 12:46:27 PM
thats where mine came from but I set a limit for myself of about 1/2 that hehe. But my setting was also not solitare so I guess the stone came down in size slightly to get in budget.[Edited on December 2, 2008 at 12:49 PM. Reason : ]
12/2/2008 12:48:07 PM
yeah, but yours is real... mine is just a dream.... *le sigh*

The ring at the top of the page is almost exactly like mine. However, we went with white gold instead of platinum to trim the cost. It's also a radiant cut, so it's cheaper than the princess cut, but I think it's hardly distinguishable, as far as shape goes, except the radiant cut lets in more light. Mine is just under a carat. As much as I hate to say it, we went with Jared's and were very pleased. He pointed us to the radiant cuts when we mentioned princess, because they are so similar, but cheaper, and we could get a better diamond for the same amount of money. He was also very good at helping explain what the difference in quality and price would be for going up or down on the clarity/color scales as well.I'm very happy with my ring, and the price we paid for it. It's so simple, it's perfect.

While I was looking at stuff at the store, I looked at some princess and radiant cut diamonds. I feel like I must be the only person who hates those cuts. I dislike them as intensely as a heart cut.Anyone else dislike them? I think they're just grotesquely sparkly, flashy, and have too much "LOOK AT ME" going on. They're almost like a cake of glitter, they're so flashy.
12/2/2008 1:30:16 PM
i'm sure there are a lot of things that you like that i would consider grotesque

^^I wasn't knocking your choice I know some folks like it, and that's fine. I don't think any less of them, although I can see how my post would have come across that way. Between that and ^, I guess I could have worded the entire post much differently.
12/2/2008 2:38:42 PM
I understand what you mean. There are some cuts of diamonds that I absolutely detest, but I'm sure people out there love them. To me, the only ones I really did like were round and princess/radiant.
12/2/2008 2:41:34 PM
I have really old, simple tastes I do like a round cut...just not as much as an asscher cut. I like my asscher because it's not glittery.
12/2/2008 2:59:17 PM
i prefer other cuts to radiant and princess. i don't really know about the glittery-ness. i haven't looked at enough rings in real life to notice these things (poor me )i like emerald. and pear. maybe now it is pear then emerald. i also like round. and asscher. i like the marquise or whatever but that isn't really me so it wouldn't work. but i do think it is interesting. i like the art deco stuff (and that one tacori i posted on like pate 9 or 8 or somewhere around there). i don't know if i could commit to it though. i'm so finicky. i probably just need a regular old solitaire so i don't get sick of it. but in a cool shape. like a pear.
12/2/2008 5:44:35 PM
My wife got a 1.51 karat, D-color, SI2 solitaire in a white gold band.I got a mad discount on the diamond since she used to work at the jewelry store. I would go with a colorless diamond with a smaller size than a big diamond that looks ugly
12/2/2008 5:54:05 PM
not gonna liei had to google "asscher cut"
12/2/2008 9:24:26 PM
I don't like them. gotta be some bling to it...
12/2/2008 9:51:36 PM
I like asscher and princess cuts the bestfor some reason I just don't like the others as muchI find round ones rather boring
12/2/2008 9:58:11 PM
emerald cut ftw
12/3/2008 2:01:06 PM
oh yummy assher.I like radiants in fancy colors, like a good yellow canary-blow your mind! I hate princess, I think everyone and thier mother has one. also hate hearts and marquis.I love old cut stones from the 1700-1800s.

12/4/2008 12:33:27 AM
^^ yeah, i want to see pictures of that..
12/4/2008 7:46:23 AM
oh god we hit a new page!!let me mention that i like this one
12/4/2008 7:52:03 AM
I prefer diamonds cut in the cretaceous period
12/4/2008 8:17:32 AM
My boyfriend wants to go to Thailand. Think I could help pay for the trip by buying a couple stones and bringing them back, then selling?
12/4/2008 8:46:39 AM
12/4/2008 9:18:29 AM
Not like I'm stupid enough to fall for a scam, and purchasing in person would be preferable over a site like http://www.thaigem.com/
12/4/2008 9:32:11 AM
So I'm going to pop the question soon:That plate picture is just a sample picture, mine will have holes at the top to tie the ring with a ribbon.

Isn't rocket science. Get a loupe and pay an out of work gemologist for an afternoon lesson about what to look for in the stone of choice. Would be an interesting adventure, but I don't really want to go anyway.
12/4/2008 10:08:09 AM
^ x4i love that ring.. i love the wide band. very nice
12/4/2008 2:03:32 PM
stuck flex, I forget, aren't you the cousin of our original drummer?
12/4/2008 2:09:10 PM
Yeah, I saw Zack at Thanksgiving.
12/4/2008 3:59:43 PM
ah cool I haven't kept up with him as much as I'd like to (only seen him a few times in the past 2 years or so)

12/4/2008 7:33:00 PM
Stuck Flex -nice! I just love the plate and idea, that is so cool Lewoods-I am an out of work gemologist and would never buy stones in person from Thialand. actually Thaigem is usually pretty good. but I don't know where you are going to sell them since most dealers buy from the mines and cutters direct.
12/4/2008 9:00:56 PM
Maybe she plans on selling them to tourists.
12/4/2008 9:09:34 PM
^^ Yeah, I was doing a search on Etsy for a nice handmade box and stumbled upon those. I cant't think of anything clever to say so I figure I'd at least mix it up on the presentation.
12/4/2008 10:11:55 PM
Yeah, I was joking. Resale for profit is dead thanks to the interwebs. Doubt I'll go anyway, food allergies and not knowing the language takes all the fun out of it. I do have a serious question though. Could a jewelry shop order me some 14g polished Ti or Niobium wire? I've been wanting some, and can only find ONE site that sells it, don't want enough to make the minimum order.
12/4/2008 10:14:55 PM
12/4/2008 10:16:17 PM
I might have some Ti somewhere. What do you need if for?
12/4/2008 10:17:08 PM
earrings, have 16g right now but want to go a little bigger. I like to make my own so I can put swarovski bicones in them instead of the boring beads in most captive bead rings.
12/4/2008 10:47:01 PM
can a swarovski bicone take the pressure?just buy one and replace the ball.(I had to look up what a captive bead ring was)
12/4/2008 11:39:01 PM
I have used bicones for several years, never had a problem, but I've also made my own rings to make sure there wasn't too much pressure on them. Guess I'll order some and see what happens when I trade the beads for crystal.
12/5/2008 12:36:31 AM
BACK ON TOPICI really like the design on this as a right hand ring. Whenever I see diamonds that go all the way around a band all I can think of is how often they'll need to be cleaned. ^__^;;
12/6/2008 10:06:14 PM
don't have a picture to put in here with the ring on her finger, but we got officially engaged this weekend after having that ring here for so long
12/7/2008 8:14:12 PM
^^ Is that SUWA?
12/7/2008 8:25:14 PM
^^Congratulations!
12/7/2008 9:37:58 PM
OMG that ring ^^^^ is gorgeous!!! Then I found it on the website, and was even more at the cost! So much for asking hubby for that for Christmas.... I want a nice right hand ring, and that's perfect.
