I dont know that much about him, excpt that Memphis is pretty good. Does anyone know how long this process is supposed to take?

I'll take shady any day of the week as long as it's bundled w/ a National Championship.

Well it took ASU a little less than a month to get Herb....but who knows how long landing our next coach will take
4/4/2006 12:28:58 AM
Nobody has answered my question from like 4 pages ago..i dont think...Why in the hell would Jay Wright leave Nova????
4/4/2006 12:32:38 AM
money, challenge?? thats why herb did it...plus the message boards
4/4/2006 12:37:20 AM
^^BECAUSE NC STATE IS THE BEST JOB IN THE WORLD!!! HE COULD COMPETE IN THE ACC AGAINST DUKE AND UNC YEAR IN AND YEAR OUT!!! AND WE HAVE ALL OF THE MOST AWESOMEST BASKETBALL PLAYERS IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD ALREADY HERE!!! AND...AND...AND...HE COULD LIVE IN FREAKING RALEIGH!!![Edited on April 4, 2006 at 12:38 AM. shut the fuck up Thats a serious question, anyone with a real opinion feel free to answer.^^Do you know what he's being paid right now? And with as big as the Big East is right now, why wouldnt he like the challenge of winning a championship at Nova? We have more history, but they have a championship more recently than we do. why not chris corchiani?what hasnt he done? he could even save them money on team meals, find them a house, finance the house, and he could adopt all the turkish kids we want, which i think is 0

http://northcarolinastate.scout.com/2/516420.htmlAn interesting read to say the least. Myth 2 does a good job of supporting the speculation that we can land a top coach. Though make sure to read the disclaimer: "Just one man’s opinion on the matter—take it for what it’s worth."

so thanks for wasting 2 posts telling me jack shitI'M SO FUCKING DUMB I COULDNT TELL YOU WERE BEING SARCASTIC OMG LETS HIRE PHIL JACKSON WE CAN GET HIM yeah go fuck yourself.
4/4/2006 1:02:47 AM
hmmm how about Phil Jackson, Larry Brown, Pat Riley, well shit lets call Kwho wouldnt want a bunch of dumb rednecks who know NOTHING about basketball and just somehow made enough money to get season tickets yelling at them, the fans that actually know something about basketball know that herb was a good coach and was very well liked and respected by the top coaches in the country. asu's gain is our loss and if we dont get barnes or calipari then we will be regretting the way we let some of our inbred redneck fans treat herb, herb is a good man who brought respect back to our program and he deserved to be treated better than how he was, some fans should be ashamed of themselves, our outspoken rabid fans could be a positive thing but instead all their energy is geared towards bitching and complaining, so as i said before if we dont get barnes or calipari this is going to have blown up in some peoples face, i know people will say he left on his own, but everyone knows he wanted to be here but couldnt handle the way he was underappreciated
4/4/2006 1:06:45 AM
^^It's not my fault you're dumb.
4/4/2006 1:07:33 AM
another fucking idiot, great, just what TWW needs.^you must be a real genius, and I mean that. No really. You're a genius. I'm really proud to have you at State. You make our fan base proud. Way to represent a great university. You're an upstanding citizen. I have nothing but good things to say about you. I'm serious. [Edited on April 4, 2006 at 1:10 AM. Reason : ]

Wow...holy panties in a wad. And I don't go to State anymore. I graduated. So you're wrong again.
4/4/2006 1:16:07 AM
yea im sure you probably think that we are one of the top five programs in the country and thay we should beat carolina and or duke every year, our program was in the shitter until herb came and he brought us out of continually playing in the 8/9 game in the tournament, herb has us back in the top 10 or 15 programs in the country and slowly had us building to attempt to try to compete year in and year out with unc and duke, and im sure you think we will get barnes which i hope we do but one of the reasons he will probably turn us down is because of fans like you who are fucking and dont know a good thing when you have it, you wonder why k and all the other coaches spoke up for herb because he was a great coach, but im sure you disagree and you know you probably do know more about basketball than k who is the arguably the greatest college basketball coach ever, oh yea you probably dont so shut the fuck up about it and let the people who know something about basketball make the decisions about basketball and you make the decisions about what video game you are going to rent this weekend
4/4/2006 1:16:41 AM
I'd say that the majority of the posters around here has no idea of how basketball is really played. Simple to play, difficult to master. There are tons of small nuances and philosophies, but no one really understands it.
4/4/2006 1:16:46 AM
oh you actually understood the sarcasm....great we're getting somewhere. Now someone give me a real opinion on why Wright would leave Nova...please if you dont mind. I havent heard anything in the past, and I'm just wondering why his name is even being mentioned if their program is so strong. Does he want out? Do the fans want him out? Does he want a higher profile job? Anything...thx.
4/4/2006 1:19:49 AM
there is no reason anyone would want to choach here aside from the moneyso if we dont get a coach, its folwers fault for not finding the money
4/4/2006 1:20:58 AM
definitely agree with you and just evidence of why we need to let the decisions be made by people who know what they are doing instead of the guy who had three bbq sandwiches and a 12 pack of budweiser before the game make the decisions
4/4/2006 1:21:02 AM
he would leave because we have genius fans like yourself
4/4/2006 1:22:13 AM
4/4/2006 1:22:19 AM
there is no reason why Wright would want to leave nova there is no reason why any of the "big hit" coaches would want to leave there programs exept for money and lets face it state aint gonna ponny up and give them enough to leaveits all wishfull thinking ps. i really hope im wrong but i doubt it[Edited on April 4, 2006 at 1:26 AM. ok last post wolfaapack why is that i get the feeling that this website is the most important thing in your life
4/4/2006 1:28:36 AM
^^^^Yes there is a reason an elite coach would come here. Ricky down in Texas plays second fiddle to his football program and can't sell out a game when they are number 1. Calipari wants to coach in the lime light, and NC State is definately brighter than Memphis. Jay Wright, along with the rest of the country, knows this was his year and Villanova may never be this good again, becuase all their talent comes from Philly. Other coaches would move simply becuase the ACC is better than the SEC, Big 12, or Pac 10, in terms of basketball tradition, respect, and prestige. So yes, there is a reason an "elite" coach would come here.PS I want Mark from Witchita State, he is a coach who could turn into a K or a Dean.

"The Skinny: Plain and simple, Rick Barnes is the man most NC State fans want. It is easy to see why. He won at Providence and Clemson, two difficult schools to produce at. He has since turned Texas into a national power. Barnes has a large presence in college basketball these days. His recruiting classes at Texas are routinely ranked among the best in the country. He pulled one of the big surprises in the fall signing period in 2005, signing Kevin Durant when many had assumed the forward was headed to North Carolina. Currently he is at one of the best coaching jobs in America. He dominates the talent-rich state of Texas in recruiting, and he works at an institution that is not afraid to pay its coaches a lot of money. There is a reason why Texas has recently won national championships in baseball and football, and was a game away this past year from reaching the Final Four in basketball. The Longhorns are among the class of athletic institutions in college sports. But Barnes name did briefly come up when the Indiana job opened up. Some have speculated that Barnes may wish to be at a school that is not driven so dominantly by football. And Barnes is a native of North Carolina, Hickory to be exact. Perhaps the NC State job would offer a chance for Barnes to return to his roots. Pros: As far as NC Sate is concerned, there may be too many to count. Barnes has proven himself to be one of the top coaches in the profession. He is a strong recruiter, and a solid tactician on the court. Barnes' teams routinely are among the strongest defensive and rebounding teams in the country. As an added bonus, Barnes would be one of the few coaches that could come to the RBC Center and not be overshadowed by the two Hall of Famers that work in the same neighborhood. Barnes famously got into it with Dean Smith at North Carolina on several occasions, making him only more endearing to the Pack faithful. Cons: As far as being a candidate for the NC State job, none. Barnes is the ideal candidate in a best-case scenario. But he would be very, very expensive to hire. Chances: Slim at the very best. The fact is Barnes was good friends with Herb Sendek and did not appreciate the way he perceived Sendek was being treated by the fans. He stated before the Texas-NC State NCAA Tournament game that he would not be interested, and a close friend of Barnes told The Wolfpacker that is the case. There are little indications out there at the moment that Barnes would even consider the job, but stranger things have happened before. Never say never however, and NC State will most likely gauge his interest. Ties to the area could be a pull towards Raleigh. "

dp[Edited on April 4, 2006 at 1:46 AM. Reason : dp]
Greg Marshall: "The Skinny: Gregg Marshall is considered a rising star in the coaching community, and some are surprised he is still at Winthrop. In eight seasons he has compiled a 165-78 overall record, and he has some impressive accomplishments during his tenure. He has averaged over 20 wins a season while there. In his first season at the school, he took a team that had won seven games the year before and led to a 21-8 mark, including a Big South championship that led to Winthrop's first ever bid to the NCAA Tournament. It would be the first of four consecutive trips to the Big Dance. In 2000, the Eagles were seeded No. 14, the highest ever seed given to a team from the Big South Conference. After a two-year hiatus from the tournament, Marshall and Winthrop have rebounded in a big way. They went an impressive 27-6 in 2005, and this past year they were 23-7. They came within a miracle shot from Tennessee's Chris Lofton in the first round of winning the school's first NCAA Tournament game and pulling off the rare 15 over a two seed upset. Three times Marshall has been named Big South coach of the year. If NC State were to go the mid-major route, many are pushing for Marshall. He is under contract at Winthrop until 2015, and he has said in the past he would only leave Winthrop if the right job came aling.Pros: Marshall has a proven track record at Winthrop. In short, he has owned the league for eight seasons now. In that span, he has won six conference championships. Marshall also prefers to play a faster paced style of basketball, something many Pack fans crave. Marshall also has a fiery, emotional presence on the sideline. Again, it would be a departure from the normally stoic Herb Sendek.Cons: The biggest for Marshall is that he is an unknown. He has never coached at a major level during any of his stops in college basketball. While the teams he has coached or been an assistant on have been wildly successful, Marshall has never experienced the rigors of the ACC. Secondly, Marshall would have to introduce himself to the NC State recruits. The risk of losing any chances of getting Chris Wright back on board and holding onto the three-man recruiting class that signed in November would be greater with an unknown hire like Marshall.Chances: Most figure that Marshall would be very interested in NC State if the Pack came calling. He has grown up and coached in the Virginia to South Carolina region along the East Coast his entire life, and NC State would be an ideal place for him to try and make his mark at the major level of college basketball. The bigger question is will athletic director Lee Fowler focus all his attention on established coaches across the country rather than look at a successful and experienced coach like Marshall from the mid-major ranks."

Anyone know what Jay Wright's new buyout is? He made $510,000 salary before the new contract through 2012-2013, but probably got a salary bump in that.
4/4/2006 7:07:19 AM
As for reasons Wright might leave...Yeah, the Big East is a great conference, but the Triangle is the heart of college basketball. You win here, you get even more respect/press. We also have Nova beat on facilities...they play a few games each year in the Wachovia Center, but we have what is basically an NBA arena year-round, which we can pack out.Plus from what I've heard he's making about $900k-$1 mil/year, which we could easily beat.No idea on the buyout, though. That's going to be an issue if he's interested.
4/4/2006 7:34:26 AM
^ he got an in-season increase to about $810,000

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/sioncampus/04/03/college/index.htmlTexas Coach Rick Barnes is among those expected to be mentioned as possible successors to Herb Sendek at North Carolina State. The Longhorn coach said Sunday, as he always has, that he is not looking to leave and is happy at Texas. Barnes is a native of Hickory, N.C., and coached at Clemson in the Atlantic Coast Conference. He's been a favorite of the Wolfpack ever since.-- Austin American-StatesmanA day after coach Herb Sendek decided to leave N.C. State for Arizona State, the Wolfpack's top recruit in the class of 2007 said he has withdrawn his commitment. Chris Wright, a 6-foot-1 junior point guard from St. John's College High in Washington, D.C., said Sunday he will reopen his recruitment. Wright said that though Sendek wasn't the sole reason for his commitment, he was a significant factor.-- Charlotte ObserverHerb Sendek called Larry Davis on Saturday night to tell him that he was leaving N.C. State for Arizona State and now Larry Davis Sr. isn't sure where his son will go. He put the odds that the 6-2 guard from Christ the King would end up at N.C. State as "50-50." N.C. State would have to release Davis from his letter of intent for him to be able to go anywhere else without missing a season.-- New York Post

Davis and Wright depend entirely on the coach we get...a good hire, and Davis is definitely here, Wright may be.

i dont know if this has been mentioned yet, but i listen to a morning radio show based out of DC (that deals a lot with sports), and they mentioned that there is a rumor floating around that ncsu has contacted Larranaga (George Mason's coach). its nothing more then a rumor, but Larranaga often listens to the show, and calls in regularly, so maybe he will clear things up at some point.
