Private detectives aren't bound by the law (or at least they act like they aren't). I don't care how you try to justify it, ninjas and detectives aren't the same fucking thing, they don't do the same fucking thing, and Batman is not a fucking ninja.

If Batman isn't ninja-like in any fashion, then why does he use batarangs, grappling guns, and wear a mask?

I didn't say he wasn't ninja-like. I said he wasn't a ninja. But fucking Spider-Man is ninja-like if we go by how far you're stretching the definition of ninja.[Edited on June 20, 2005 at 2:44 PM. Reason : ...]

Batman's ninja-like qualities were greatly exaggerated in this movie to the detriment of his qualities as a detective, yet another deviation from the spirit of the character and another black mark against the movie as a whole. That's what.
6/20/2005 2:47:37 PM
that's b/c ninja's are more exciting than detectivesthus the reason The Pink Panther movie is being pushed back to Christmas (or probably b/c it really sucks on an Inspector Gadget level)

The Pink Panther is a comedy franchise, not an action one. Jesus Christ.

wait. that ending isnt supposed to. It's setting the scene for its own portrayal of Joker & co.In fact its kinda critical to seperate this version of the franchise apart from the Adam West, Burton ones, and the GOD AWFUL Joel Schumacher pair. This idea of 'redoing' the batmans is like stating e that any of these past movies have the patent on the way Batman operates -- which is limiting. Its not like a sequel starring the joker using this version of the franchise is gonna crowd the Burton one at all. They'd hardly even touch thematically or plot-wise , you know that.[Edited on June 20, 2005 at 4:40 PM. Reason : ]

Saw it Sunday night and was really pleased. I thought they handled most parts of the movie really well and left things wide open to take the story in pretty much any direction they want. Scarecrow was still running loose at the end of the film, and they set things up to be able to use the Joker if they wish as the villian of the second film. They set all the characters up pretty well for an early movie, showing Gordon starting to move up through the police ranks and getting to trust Batman, and I liked the way they developed Bruce Wayne in this movie. I thought Bale was much better as Wayne than he was as Batman in this movie, but then again, the movie revolved more around how he BECAME Batman rather than what he did as Batman. Yes he appears a little young, but then again, the focus was on the earlier part of his life that the older movies and the comic don't really focus on too much. If they make another movie with this cast though I'll go see it. The only one that was better of the old movies in my opinion was the very first, and that was mainly because Jack was great as the Joker in that movie.

Why does the idea of Batman having a sense of humor bother you, CharlieEFH? In all his 66 years, no matter what changes he has gone through as a character, Batman has always had a sense of humor.

they just announced on the radio that Warner Bros. has already agreed to do sequels to Batman Begins after the numbers for this weekend's debut were in. Returning will be Bale, Freeman & Caine. Katie Holmes' role will NOT be reprised (prob due to all the Cruise attention). If I find a link, Ill post it.

No, I think the Holmes role won't reprised due to some combination of her limitations as an actress, criticisms about her appearance, and the nature of her character. Her character helped Bruce mature into the man he is, there's not much room for her character to develop or add anything to a sequel storywise.

throughout the movie i never even thought to associate Holmes' Rachel character as a love interest. I think thats b/c she seemed like a sister to Wayne the entire time. She stayed mature about their relationship which I think is great. So kudos for the direction to keep the love crap out for the most part.
6/21/2005 9:29:47 AM
I think it would have been better to have Harvey Dent in her position, which could take the love interest into the whole Gay Knight arc from the comics.

9. Batman stories ran in Detective Comics for seven months before the character's origin was partially revealed, and he didn't receive a full origin story until nearly nine years after his first appearance.8. As thanks for his years of courageous service, Gotham City erected a giant statue of Batman in the style of the Statue of Liberty in Gotham Harbor that served as a lighthouse. One Gotham businessman built a house in the shape of Batman's head and shoulders. Seems like most everyone has forgotten about that kind of thing.7. DC Comics let Batman fans decide the ultimate fate of Jason Todd, the second Robin, by calling a 900 number to vote whether he should live or die. This was a completely ridiculous story that culminated in the Joker being named the Iranian Ambassador to the United Nations by Ayatollah Khomeini. As if that's not retarded enough, the Joker attempted to kill the entire UN with poisonous gas, was thwarted by Superman sucking all the gas into his super-lungs with his super-breath, and tried to get away with it by invoking diplomatic immunity. Batman stories are dumb as hell sometimes.6. With the arguably minor exception of the Bat-nipples, everything Joel Schumacher did with the franchise was drawn from the comics themselves. That includes the giant props, the corny jokes, the outrageously implausible technology, and the big rubbery hard-on gayness. Batman is super queer.5. While most "modern" viewers look at the live-action TV series of the 1960s as a kind of quaint attempt at Batman that doesn't know how stupid it really is, all of the camp was intentional. The show was conceived as a sitcom parody of the comics.4. It's a widespread misconception that Harley Quinn, who first appeared in "Batman: The Animated Series" and later was introduced in the comics, was the first character to enter the comics' continuity from an outside medium. It was actually Batgirl, who was brought into the comics after popular acclaim for her on the television series.3. Though Batman has sworn off using firearms, he still trains himself and his sidekicks to use them—everything from firing to cleaning to using them as thrown weapons.2. The origin of the Joker as told in Alan Moore's Batman: The Killing Joke isn't considered canonical. The true origin of the Joker is unknown; as a side note, the character of Jack Napier was created for Tim Burton's film.1. Only a decade ago, the vast majority of Batman stories were either traditional superhero fare or "weird tales" involving transformations, aliens, ghosts, and other material far, far removed from the image of Batman as the "Dark Knight" vigilante that has gained prominence since the 1980s.[Edited on June 21, 2005 at 12:20 PM. heres my take. as a movie it was good and i enjoyed it. as far as keeping the spirit of the comics, tv show, and the other good movies (the first 2) they took some liberties for sure. thats why its not my fav. and thtas why i say it was a good movie but not the best batman movie
6/21/2005 12:25:35 PM
hehi like that picture with the thought bubble "oh Robin, what have i done!"
6/21/2005 12:26:10 PM
6/21/2005 1:04:37 PM
I know it's stupid. But comic books aren't stupid. Stupid things may happen in them sometimes, but stupid things happen on television, in books, in movies....
6/21/2005 2:09:34 PM
the fact that other stupid things happen does not change the stupidity of the batman statue
6/21/2005 2:20:08 PM
I'm not saying it isn't stupid. I'm saying its stupidity doesn't make it any less a part of the Batman mythos.
6/21/2005 2:21:31 PM
right, and since it's quite obvious that the movie cannot encompass the entire Batman mythos, they probably figured "what the hell, why don't we just leave out all the stupid shit"
6/21/2005 2:24:12 PM
I'm not saying they should've included the fucking statue. Do you not have any reading comprehension?
