terrible decision by Navas there

Spain have to be wary of the counter when Pique and others push up this last 10

man, what a disappointing World Cup final game. After a great tournament I was hoping for an epic game, not a penalty-laden snoozefest. Oh well, I'm definitely going to miss getting up, turning on the tv and watching soccer all day. I guess its back to baseball all summer

interesting fact about the Golden Boot that I didnt know about

Quote :
"The Golden Boot or Golden Shoe Award goes to the top goalscorer of the FIFA World Cup. It was introduced at the 1930 FIFA World Cup.

If there is more than one player with the same amount of goals, the tie-breaker goes to the player who has contributed the most assists (with the FIFA Technical Study Group deciding whether an assist is to be counted as such).

If there is still more than one player, the tie-breaker goes to the player who has played the least amount of time"

according to wikipedia, Mueller won the Golden Boot. I didnt know there was a Golden, Silver and Bronze boot.

so many "firsts" in this world cup.

first world cup played on african soil

first time the host country failed to make it out of group stage

first time the US won their group

first time a european team won outside of europe

first time a team who lost their first game went on to win the tournament

first world cup trophy for spain

and i'm sure there are more. all-in-all, a memorable world cup, despite all the bitching and moaning from the beginning. i'm gonna have to start saving up for brazil in 2016

Thomas Mueller wins Golden Boot
David Villa wins Silver Boot
Wesley Sneidjer wins Bronze Boot

I wonder who will win the Golden, Silver and Bronze Balls

Gold:Forlan
Silver:Villa
Bronze:Sneijder.

Then I'd give Fernando Torres a blue ribbon or something

Spain should really be thanking their defense. I know most of the focus has been on their midfield and ball control.. but seriously if you told me the WC winner would have scored 8 goals in 7 games I would have said you were fucking retarded lol

it was such an embarrassing display by the dutch, just so pathetic. i would've been so mad if they had won with that shit they were pulling all game.

it was a really difficult game for the referee, but he handled it well all in all. the players were pressuring him all game, the dutch were diving and fouling extremely hard, and the spanish were diving too. probably one of the more difficult games to ref of the tournament that i saw.

im just glad spain won, they were the best team out there

It was an entertaining game, but it was embarrassing to see BOTH teams diving the way they were.

Lol, yeah start packing your bags for brazil 2016 good luck getting tickets 2 years late for the event.

I feel like soccer could be an exciting sport if they figured out a way to encourage teams to try to score

^There is plenty of scoring. The 3rd place game finished 3-2. The opening match of the group phase and the final often are very defensive because no one wants to give up a goal. Once teams realize they have to score a lot and win to advance then they attack more.

120 minutes of fairly boring soccer (by soccer standards even), scoreless for 117 minutes, won by a guy who spent the whole game faking being fouled

it was a showcase for why a lot of people will never like soccer

sweet troll bro

Quote :
"Spain hero Andres Iniesta has dedicated his goal to the memory of stricken friend Dani Jarque after they claimed the World Cup with a 1-0 win over Netherlands after extra-time in Johannesburg.

Jarque, a former Espanyol footballer died last year in Italy while on pre-season training for the Blanc i Blau and after netting the winner in extra-time the 26-year-old Barcelona midfielder revealed a message on his shirt which read "Dani Jarque is always with us".

"The manner in which it happen, we gave everything. To win the World Cup there are no words to describe it," an emotional Iniesta told Spanish television moments after the final whistle.

"This is for Dani Jarque, for my family for all of the people. It is the result of hard work over a long time and some difficult moments.""

and when someone like TallyHo gives out legit reasons as to why many Americans don't like the sport, you throw a temper tantrum

why are soccer fans more defensive about their sport than fans of any other sport? even to legit criticism

how come soccer fans think anytime someone isn't 100% in love with the sport that they're trolling? As if someone can't legitimately be critical of the sport without being a blatant troll that deserves to leave the thread? Am I not allowed to even post about soccer if I'm not a diehard fan?

well its not soccer fans in general, its mostly just you
